After a fabulous meal, I rather enjoy a nice aperitif and so far, Las Gitanillas is the only venue that I have patronized in Estepona that has my favourite, Drambuie.  Manuela, her daughter Gema, and son Javier were the perfect hosts and the epitome of exemplary customer satisfaction. Indeed Las Gitanilllas will be once of the first venues that I patronize for my lite snack and beverages with authority when I visit Estepona next year.

It was delicious, the crust was perfectly cooked and the sauce was not over powering. The size was perfect for one person. Other dishes I tried were the Fini Fini in fresh Parmesan with truffle and mushroom sauce- a favorite at our table. The Veal scallopini was excellent as well, the meat was tender and flavorful. When I am in Estepona, a few months out of the year, this is my favorite restaurant and I eat here…read moremultiple times a week. First, you will definitely need a reservation. It is always busy. There is seating in the "patio" with a nice man made fireplace in cooler months. There is the main area with the bar and a long table. And there is the option to sit on the 'terrace,' which is a pedestrian street. Weather cooperating, we love to sit on the terrace and people watch. All areas are extremely clean and cheerful. Service is friendly and efficient without being pesty. When a table is reserved, it is yours from your reservation time to the remainder of the evening. They never try to hustle you along so that others (without a reservation) might be seated. American restaurants could learn from this. The menu has about 30 different tapas offerings as well as pinchos, tostas, and entrees. There is something for every appetite. There is always one or two tapas of the day, which change. I am not a seafood eater, so I am thankful that at least half the items offered are not from the sea. My boyfriend loves seafood, so there is plenty to satisfy his tastes, too. We really like to chose 2 to 3 tapas each and that is very filling. My favorites are "taco de manzana" and the chicken burrito, oh, and the mini lamb hamburgers! I guess I really don't have just one favorite! Everything is very fresh and tasty. Most of the tapas are 2€ and 3€. The tostas are 8€ and very filling. My favorite is tosta queso de cabra. Among larger items, my boyfriend really likes the shrimp brick. They will also accommodate an appetite and make it larger or smaller. I normally drink sparkling water or tea. My boyfriend is the wine drinker. They have an extensive wine offering and at least once a month will have a special event with wine pairings or a wine class. They have a full time sommelier who organizes these events. There is also a full bar. I will usually have an after dinner drink. The pours are generous! Our bill for the evening (2 people) is usually 20€-25€ for 6 tapas, a wine (or two), water and an after dinner drink. Highly recommended!

No Paella here. La Escollera is strictly seafood from what I saw. Because of Escollera's popularity with tourists AND locals alike, it gets busy so have a few things in mind: (1) give your name+last name to the host inside (2) if you can grab a high-top outside, go for it and get a Starter bite while you wait, (3) someone will yell out your last name, then (4) you're in. Attention from all the servers is definitely here and each offered individual tid-bit on what we ordered. Dozen oysters (or "12 pieces") were meaty and juicy with the right amount of oyster liquor. What's more, I know the oysters hubs and I have been getting on the East Coast in the States are good- but these here in Spain's Southern Coast are mind-blowing. Horseradish and mignonette? They're obsolete in these parts. You will get Tabasco as an alternate (for hubs) and some individually-packaged red wine. It did just fine. Prawns were good but the Sardines were excellent with a slightly crunchy-garlicky exterior. The oysters took it a bit over from what we've experienced during our stay. But come to think of it, comparing the quality and straight-from-the-sea catch to the East Coast, they were worth the €54. Skip the juicy-flavored sangria and go for a red or white instead. In essence, it's all about the seafood here.

We ordered both from the broad menu and from the tapas case and have been here 3/5 evenings! Everything is freshly prepared. My boyfriend has had a seafood soup and the entrecôte from the menu. He thought the seafood soup was one of the best he has had. I think we have had 9 or 10 different tapas. My favorite is the lamb skewers over French fries. Each has been unique and tasty. I think the most expensive was 3,70€ with most priced at 2,60€ or so. The weather has been a bit chilly, so we have sat inside rather than outside. It is very pleasant with upbeat music and stools. The restrooms are super clean. Service is absolutely excellent; friendly and efficient. We were never rushed and tapas would appear one after another instead of all at once. We feel they are genuinely happy you are here. The check has been between 18€ and 26€ for 6 tapas, 2x 0,0 beer and a sparkling water. There has not been a single time we have had to wait for a table. It is as of yet, undiscovered! Our new favorite tapas restaurant in Estepona and now among the "must" visit restaurants!
