After a so-so dining experience at my usual burger joint in town, I decided to check out this relative newcomer to the Brunswick Street restaurant scene. The Roadhouse has a kind of 80s-hipster-meets-Texas kind of aesthetic, but I guess it works somehow.
I decided to go for the Roadhouse burger with chips and drink which, at $15, is fairly reasonable. The bun is a nice sweet brioche and isn't too bread-y, which is so common with burgers around here. The burger patty was nice and juicy without being too thick or too greasy. Definitely a fan there. But the chips - yikes. At first glance they look good, but when you pick them up, they're just sort of limp and lifeless. From a taste perspective, they're not horrible but they're so soggy and undercooked that they're basically inedible. I think if the chips were in the deep fryer for a bit longer, they might actually taste halfway decent.
They also have hot dogs/sausages on the menu but I didn't try them. I got excited when I saw they had chili dogs, but it turns out they're just hot dogs with jalapeños on top (as opposed to hot dogs slathered in chili). read more
