Having had a really lovely Christmas meal in the restaurant I was very much looking forward to lunch with friends in the bar enjoying the taps menu. Unfortunately I was sorely disappointed, the waitress was nice enough but generally the service could not have been slower or less attentive.
The menu said that their half boards would be suitable for 2 or a full board for 2-3 hungry people. We were 5 adults and two children so we ordered 1 full and 3 half plates all different, and 4 portions of chips. Having waited and waited the food finally arrived and left me wondering where the rest of it was. Then there was another wait for ketchup and more butter.
The whole Riverbank Board at £20 might just have served 2 as a snack, the chips were beautifully presented but stingy to say the least. Having rapidly ran out of bread we asked for more and waited another 20 mins.
The tiny portions were comprised of lovely ingredients and the bread was superb but neither could compensate the size vs price or the shockingly slow service.
It was not that busy with diners, we were foolish to be there on a match day but they were mainly drinking, so I cannot understand why assembly job plates of meat and fish took so long.
I had to leave for another engagement and the slowness meant I did not get pudding or coffee - it really really spoilt it. I didn't get to see the final bill either but I can only imagine it was eye watering. Such a shame. If you're planning on going, leave lots of time, take your credit card, skip match days, leave the tapas and head for the restaurant.
