It's a cute little spot in Rancho Mirage that's just off the main strip. Pretty much a lot of things in the desert is off the main strip. It's a mini shopping center that has a few little boutiques but mainly restaurants. The chain restaurants such as Yard house, PF Changs, Cheesecake Factory, and Dave and Busters. Then there's a few smaller restaurants. The main store that's the biggest out of the other boutique is REI. Besides that, it also house a movie theatre. From The looks of it, it looks pretty impressive. It's a cute walkway that with a mixture of Universal city walk and San Antonio River walk. Of course man made but a cute layout of the property. It's not that big and everything surrounds each other but it's worth a wander through. There's plenty of parking both to the side as well as plenty in the back lot. I think everything is pretty much out in the open as I didn't really see any covered parking spots. Location is amazing as it's pretty much near a lot of things. There's cute little spots throughout the desert that's worth checking out. I don't think it's someplace that you would hang out at for long. More for coming for a meal or the movies. You could walk around but there's nothing much from that. read more

It's freaking 115 degrees and walking through this beautiful shopping center is like hiking on Venus. In season it is a wonderful place to shop and dine. Took my son to Dave & Buster's at the River in Rancho Mirage. They were offering $2.50 unlimited arcade games all day as a 4th of July promotion. We definitely couldn't pass this deal up. As we approached The River, it was completely empty due to the holiday hours. Most stores were closed, but a few were open for business. I love the river flowing throughout the whole outdoor mall. Very tranquil while you shop or dine in at one of the restaurants. Unfortunately, we couldn't experience that except to visit Dave & Buster's since it was the only restaurant that was opened. It was nice to walk around along the river and fountains. Very calm and peaceful. read more

The River in Rancho Mirage is a nice blend of dining, shopping, and leisure activities that include a movie theatre. The mall feels like an oasis in the otherwise arid Coachella Valley. We came here around 8:00 pm on a Saturday for dinner rather than shopping. The fountain/water features in front of The River was beautiful after dark and made for a pleasant stroll. This is not a big mall, but there were several good restaurants from which to choose. Parking was easy. read more

Hell no. I had went to go see a movie at the theater yet I noticed that outside they were hosting a memorial for Charlie Kirk...like what. I felt like I was watching a cult of American individuals. They had a poster of him in front of the American flag in the middle of a pathway....cmon now I was just trying to enjoy my movie. The River in the low desert is an outdoor mall of cuisine, comfort, cinema, caps, clothes, and community. Had the opportunity to stop in for dinner and take in "The River" aspect of this lush long collection of businesses both popular and familiar... and it's quite pretty, especially at night, but definitely, more of a lake or a pond as it doesn't encompass the entire mall... which is one of my big critiques... It does seem to be more food focused with the local Cinemark in the center of it all... The parking on either side is pretty easy to navigate... As are the pathways... Some walk bridges in places especially over parts of the water would be amazing... I'll just daydream about them for now. It was fun to see families and kids enjoying a Friday evening about and in the mini amphitheater near the lake... I mean river. Curious to see how this place will grow and change before my next visit... especially with talks of Dave & Buster's emerging this year... which will give things like Escape Games (the escape room place) some more entertainment company. The PF Chang's is solid! The Yard House is reliable, Dringk for stiff drinks and the Cheesecake Factory is as good as it gets for sit-down spots. Five Guys, Ben & Jerry's, Chakaa, and a few others for those more convenient bites and sips on the go. Q Tip: They host some events throughout the year including a car show every first Saturday of the month. This is a hard review, because The River was once such an amazing place! It's been years since I was here, and it sadly has gone very downhill. I remember The River was once a very lively place for families and young people alike. There used to be a ton of shops, restaurants, and live music performances. I'm glad to see some of the OG restaurants, like Babes are still there. Happy to see the movie theater is still there (despite the fact it was very empty). The sad thing was that none of the stores are still there. I hope that one day, The River can get back to what it once was. It would be great to see some more shops for sure! read more

What is happening here? This dirty concrete maze needs a fresh look - and turn on the water features on the east sides by the Omni or cover them over with decking and create outdoor seating areas with lounge chairs etc. The River need to decide if it's an entertainment venue, restaurant venues (restaurant row) or a retail destination. Right now it's neither apart from Yard House, Cheesecake Factory, Babes or PF Chang's. This venue is in need of more blended restaurants. A combination of QSR's such as Sweet Greens, Mendocino Farms, Tender Greens, Urban Plates, Shake Shack, Tocaya, Blue Bottle Coffee, etc. I hear Dave and Busters is coming which is fine but there are so many vacant store fronts thats there is plenty of room to go around for plenty of other tenants. Also, "Art Walk" is not a fun way to fill in the gaps, and the seasonal Halloween store might pay the rent but not a compelling enough reason to visit the location. These experience drive down the perceived value of this facility. All this said, parking can be a nightmare with no designated "food to go" parking locations and everything is so spread out it can be hard to get a space. An investment in parking study is probably needed to get ahead of a venue such as Dave and Busters - if it comes. The River needs to be a entertainment destination. Freshen it up. Broker some great tenant deals to bring in quality/ premium tenants to lift the value of this facility. Apart from the big players here, the small players struggle with low amounts of foot traffic stopping by because the river is just know for 4 restaurants and a movie theater. Nobody comes here to hang out and lounge around. For the warmer months provide shade coverings and outdoor misters. Plant more trees and landscape so it's not concrete overload. The Brad Mercer Band, in weekly residence at Fantasy Springs Casino Resort's, The Lit Lounge for four years, moved on in 2023, to new venues, large and small, both in and out of the Coachella Valley, to seek new and diversified audiences. The band has an impressive, extensive song archive with a catalogue of classic rock and pop, including exact renditions of rarely performed, sometimes complex classics from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and even new hits from the early 2000's, from artists like: The Eagles, Elton John, The Beatles, Neil Diamond, The Animals, Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, Tom Petty, Peter Frampton, Pat Benetar, Chicago, The Doors, Billy Joel, The Zombies, The Rolling Stones, Badfinger, Doctor John, Pat Benatar, Led Zeppelin, and The Who, to name just a few. In addition, Brad, as a professional impressionist, adds a special touch to the show with his dead-on mimicry of each musical legend. So Brad, a truly gifted vocalist, is surrounded by a strong vocal ensemble as he is be top notch musicians. What pleased the venue and the crowd, is how Brad plays to the people, often stepping off stage to perform sitting next to them or walking among them, often inviting them to sing along. The band as a whole, seemed generally very appreciative of the love thrown their way, though this writer feels they more than earned it. The Brad Mercer Band delivered a rock show one would normally pay $50-$100 to see. It was a total thumbs-up. I highly recommend this band if you are in the desert. Came to The River 4 or 5 years ago to the movie theater with my brother, nephews, plus our grandson. I remember being impressed with the center, but didn't spend more time. On our last trip to the desert, our nephew recommended hanging out there. We ended up going to Yard House for dinner, sitting under the misters, soaking up the atmosphere. We were planning to go the next day, but was just too hot! The landscape / waterscape areas are worth a visit alone. One day we'll hang out there when it's in the 80 degree range. read more

It's a nice place but not much here mainly restaurants. I do prefer this forever 21 over the one at the mall tho. Pretty good restaurants miss the sushi place that's gone now. Nice movie theater and the "river" isn't really a river so hopefully your not going for that it's just a man made little water area around some restaurants. During this season they usually put a tree up which they currently have again this year and what's new is the little ice skating rink which is fun for all ages. read more

Parking stinks. But once you find a spot, leave it for 42 days. It's a little oasis in the dessert. A little "river", with chain restaurants (Cheesecake Factory, Yardhouse, Fleming's, Acqua Pazza, Babe's Bar-B-Que & Brewery, PF Chang's, Baja Fresh, Five Guys, Ben & Jerry's, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, and several others. But wait, that's not all you get. A spankin' nice movie theater (Cinemark), Forever 21 (yeah, and I they have men's clothes, too), Bath & Body Works, MAC Cosmetics, and others. I've been coming here since 2004. It's called The River so you think there would be some water that circles the whole complex but it does not, it would have been nice if they would have little rides like paddle boats you could ride on the river but they never did that. the borders bookstore used to be here (anchor store) but they went out of business when they left it seemed to take about a third of the foot traffic out ,plus the parking is a nightmare. The cheesecake factory has average food, the Yard House sucks,the barbecue restaurant that I can't remember the name of that I twice its average, Baja fresh was good here but it went downhill and is no longer in business. It's a scaled down version of The Commons shopping mall in Calabasas, CA. What brought me here initially was Cohiba. Picked up some cigars and we wandered around for a minute. I did notice they had a valet area just around the corner from the Yardhouse. Later that evening we did come back to the Yardhouse. Pretty straight forward clean mall. read more

We had been here eight months before we investigated The River. We enjoyed some outdoor walking one afternoon followed by an early dinner. The next day we had lunch outside while basking in the sun and listening to a live musician playing his harp. Many restaurants and snack places to choose from along with some retail. Cool place. I love water so it was great to see a restaurant area with water flowing all around! This was right across the street from where we stayed for the weekend so it was super convenient. There were so many restaurants and a movie theater, ice cream shop, Starbucks and other stores. The parking was good during the day and at night when we were there. Sporting a cinema, restaurants and semi high-end shopping, the River most likley has what you need - if you're willing to spend a few bucks. My husband and I were staying at one of the local hotels and wandered over here (note - NOT my first time here) for some dinner. We were really in the mood for something 'quick,' but couldn't find anything like that. Yes, there is Baja Fresh and Papa Mario's pizza... but neither suited our mood. Comprised of Yard House, Fleming's, PF Chang's, Cheesecake Factory, Acqua Piazza (or something like that), Babe's - and potentially a few other places - this isn't the place to go if you want a quick, simple meal. For asthetic purposes, the centre is gorgeous. Lovely little water fountain thing / mini lake in the centre, which is super cute. Makes dining at Cheesecake Factory or that Acqua Piazza place quite nice. As for the rest of the centre outside the dining options, it seems to be a random collection of stores. A few cosmetic shops (MAC, Ulta), feel-good-shops (Bath & Body Works), clothing, mix and match places.. but nothing that suited me for shopping. I'm glad we came solely for the purpose of dining. Still, it's real, but.... Yet, fake. And parking for like a county fair. I'm somewhat disappointed. Also, it might actually be a different city than Palm Springs. I dunno.... As far as Palm Springs goes, you either have casinos, the downtown strip, or golfing for entertainment. Sure, you could go to the hot springs, but It's better you pass due to the recent gang sweep in the area. Maybe you like shopping, but shopping is everywhere. Besides, if you are really looking for some serious shopping, you are better suited to head to the Cabazon outlets. If you are looking for the familiar, a place to enjoy the desert, or somewhere to chill and kill time, head for the RIVER. The River provides waterfront socializing complete with cascading fountains and waterfalls. As long as it's not scorching hot, the River is a relaxing place to people watch. Honest, the misters do really help in 100+ degree weather. You can choose from a variety of options. Ranging from all things chain restaurants, shops, and spas to a real deal century movie theater.
