Worked security for this place back in September. They gave me a poorly written check that is being held up at my Bank for possible fraud. It's now November. To date they have not done what my bank is asking to confirm the check. This is 100 percent on them for the way the check was written. I need my 490 dollars just like anyone else would in this situation. This is bad business all around. I'm a young minority trying to do business the write way. My bank is literally only asking them to send a email and they won't do it. read more

Wonderful venue for a wedding! This venue has a brick house feel overlooking the old Durham Bulls baseball field. The venue also hosts Indian/Hindu wedding ceremonies. The host is lovely as well. The only reason for one less star is that everything needs to be purchased/found, so essentially it take a lot of work to have party here. When I heard a chalk artist cost $500 I was shocked. However, overall, this place is fantastic and would host another event here in a heartbeat! read more

Lovely venue that is across from the baseball field! Has a patio area with speaker system. The owner of the venue is very professional and accommodating. I was a DJ for a Latino Student Organization and I would recommend anyone hosting a party or wedding to choose this venue. read more

What a wonderful space! Downtown Durham is SO going in the right direction! The Rickhouse's back patio overlooks right field of the old Durham Bulls ballpark (think Bull Durham!). It is a large, well ventilated space with large-screen electronics, a marvelous sound system and a soon-to-be-added craft brewery. It is comfortable... Spacious, yet intimate. During this occasion (a freebie hosted and paid for by The Rickhouse), the food was carted by Durham Catering. It was outstanding (although steak knives would have been appropriate). The open bar was absolutely wonderful, and our hosts were ever so gracious! I have no doubt that these folks will make a wonderful addition to the downtown Durham scene, and provide a terrific venue for many weddings, as well as other receptions. Cheers! read more

I attended a brunch hosted by Sabrina Seymore Events and Courvoisier and this place was AMAZING! The location is perfect, located downtown in a cozy area. The space was amazing and very roomy. Staff was awesome and food was amazing. Their list of food providers didn't disappoint. If you're looking to have an event and need lots of room, this is the place. Wood floors, lots of outlets, bathrooms clean, lots of tables and chairs available. Perfect place for wedding receptions, family reunions, and more. Check them out! read more

I have attended a handful of events here. I definitely wish they had a parking lot. Having to drive all around downtown looking for a spot on the street is a huge inconvenience- I never know how much time to plan for when getting there. The space is big and open, but a little echoey. Like, when it's filled with people eating biscuits and donuts (as at Rise's Big Biscuit Showdown, which I have attended two years in a row now) don't think you're going to be able to get to know some new friends. It's cool that it overlooks the old ballpark. It's nice, and you get a good view of the setting sun. There's plenty of seating space on that outdoor patio, too, and it's shaded from the sun, which is always nice. All in all, this is a trendy spot to host an event, but not my favorite. read more

Cannot say enough good things about the Rickhouse. We've photographed several weddings here and can't wait to be back later this year. The location cannot be beaten, especially if you like a good after party as it's in the neighborhood of some of Durham's most-loved bars. The space is unmatched for industrial chic style--not only do you have exposed I-beams above you, but a huge glass wall looks onto the distillery equipment for a unique backdrop or talking point for your guests. Add the uniquely Durham charm of the Durham Athletic Park (former home of the Durham Bulls), over which the Rickhouse's covered patio looks, and it all combines to make one of our favorite Durham venues. (Caution to hopefuls, though: there *is* an additional charge to shoot in the ballpark.) We cannot recommend the Rickhouse highly enough, and look forward to our next visit! read more

Had the chance to check out this all new venue space tonight. Owned by the founders of Tyler's have opened up this cool space, part event space and part micro distillery. Tonight they showcased the event venue a great historic building looking out to the original Durham Bulls stadium the Durham Athletic Park. I have to say it's a pretty awesome view. Conveniently located close to the Marriott and other restaurants it's a great spot for a wedding venue & reception. They have several caterers on board for the space many of the top caterers in the Triangle to choose from. I really enjoyed the mix between the indoor and outdoor space. What I presume would be the dance floor space where they served the food tonight was really dark but with some extra lighting will look great. Great addition to Durham. We were here for The Bull City Holiday and Wine Soiree. The venue was spacious. Parking wasn't so good. We had to walk a couple blocks to get there. The event itself had lots of LOCAL food tastings. We enjoyed it. But in order to taste the wine , you had to buy a glass for $10. I think you could keep the glass but there was NO mention of this fee in the event info. I thought that was a bit misleading on their part. The wine tasting wasn't FREE as they advertised. read more

Daniel and Sarah from The Rickhouse were awesome to work with for our March 2016 wedding! But lets start at the beginning - the venue. I needed a spot big enough to hold my huge Italian family. The venue was unique, spacious, included tables and chairs, overlooked the historic Durham Bulls ballpark, and had a great vibe. It was perfect for me and my husband! He especially loved how one whole glass wall of the venue overlooked The Rickhouse's distillery. In the months leading up to the big day, Daniel and Sarah both accommodated tours and meetings and gave valuable insight to the best way to layout our wedding event. I really liked the resources they provided for planning - like AllSeated.com for the floor layout. The agreement/payment platform was user friendly and well organized. The day of the wedding went off without a hitch. My guests were all able to find parking nearby and loved the intimacy and uniqueness of the spot. We had room for two bars, four food stations, a dance floor, round tables, cocktail tables, and even three little "living room" setups from a local vintage rental company (shoutout to Greenhouse Picker Sisters!!) Reasonably priced, super lovely location, great guest service, A++! read more

This is a delayed review - but very much deserved! We were married at the Rickhouse in October 2015 and I feel so lucky that we found the space. We were in the first season of weddings that was held there, but you would never have known it based on the professionalism and preparedness of Daniel and Sarah. From the beginning Daniel was very transparent and communicative with us about everything involved in planning our wedding. He was always available when we wanted to stop by to take measurements or see the space again and had great suggestions for bringing our ideas to life. We used the AllSeated software in collaboration with Daniel to come up with a plan of where we wanted the tables, how many chairs at each, etc. It was so helpful to have a visual of how it would all be laid out, and since the staff had the plan, it was set up exactly how we had wanted it! We also happened to get married on the weekend of Hurricane Joaquin - which was problematic because we had planned our ceremony for outside on the wonderful patio. Sarah was in touch with me almost constantly in the days leading up to the wedding about what our back up plan would be. She had some great ideas and was willing to go above and beyond to make it happen. Thankfully, the sun ended up coming out just in time. I also have to note something about our alcohol set up. We decided to do wine and beer, and also had champagne for when guests arrived and at toast time. At most venues, wine and beer means very limited options, but the Rickhouse is set up to handle several draft beers of your choice and wine all at the same time, so there really was something for everyone at a very reasonable cost. I think we had a total of 4 beers on tap and 4 wines (2 whites, 2 reds). The space is beautiful. The sky is the limit on what you can do in there to make it your own. And afterwards, most of the young folks wandered down the street to the several bars and kept the party going! PS - They even sent us a note to celebrate our one year anniversary, so sweet! read more

I would have given this venue 5 stars due to the fact that it is beautiful and we had a wonderful time at our friends wedding. The only problem is that the parking lot across the venue that you're allowed to park in, is dark, has no cameras and if you look on the ground, there are multiple windows shattered from cars getting broken into. We got our vehicle broken into last night during the wedding and had multiple belongings stolen. They need to figure out a way to either put cameras in that parking lot or light it up, or have security during events. I don't recommend that you drive your vehicle there unless you want to be robbed. read more

We got married at The Rickhouse in March of this year and it was perfect! Daniel and Sarah were extremely helpful and great to work with. The space is open and industrial, a blank slate with Durham character. It included chairs and tables for up to 200, which was perfect for our celebration. They gave us the flexibility to work with venders that we wanted and I appreciated how objective they were in making recommendations. One of the biggest draws for us was the balcony overlooking the old Durham Bulls Athletic Park. It added a whole second dimension to the space. Things that may have been challenging, for example parking, were simplified by Sarah and Daniel's wealth of knowledge about the area. They were consistently available to answer questions and were patient with us during the planning process. Our wedding day was so easy and so fun! I have been to many stressful weddings where the bride and groom do not get to enjoy the celebration with friends and family. That was NOT the case for us, everything went perfectly and we could not have asked for anything better. read more

We had our wedding at The Rickhouse last month and it was gorgeous! We had about 120 people, and it was the perfect size. You can definitely fit a lot more, though! Dan and Sarah were great. We worked with Sarah throughout our whole planning process, and she was very responsive and helpful. As far as food, they have a list of about 10 caterers you can choose from. You can't really choose one that's not on the list, but all the places they work with are great! Anyway, the space was gorgeous (especially with some market lights on the ceiling) and unique. The balcony was perfect for sunset pictures, and the dance floor is HUGE, great if you want people to get up and dance! Parking seems like it would be an issue, but there are a few big lots nearby so it wasn't a problem. Overall, we loved this space. It was perfect! read more

I love this venue. It's a super cool space with a touch of southern, a bit of retro and somehow a touch of modern that makes it all work. My husband and I got married at The Rickhouse 12/27 and it was absolutely amazing! We both grew up in Durham and we looking for something that fit our style and The Rickhouse couldn't have been more perfect. The venue is gorgeous on the inside with lots of space, a huge dance floor, incredible patio overlooking the old Durham Bulls stadium, big windows that look into their distillery with beautiful copper stills, and a very pretty bridal suite! We even used the cool copper star wall as the backdrop for our photo booth! We also loved that it is walking distance to lots of cool Durham bars and hotels. After the wedding we all walked down the street to Surf Club to keep the party going! Not only is the venue awesome, but the staff is incredible. Both Daniel and Sarah were great to work with. Super friendly and accommodating! In fact, I miss having an excuse to stop by and hang out with them:) read more

I cannot say enough good things about The Rickhouse. Originally we chose The Rickhouse for our reception only; however, due to some unseasonably chilly weather, we moved our ceremony inside to The Rickhouse as well. Sarah, the Director of Operations, and our point of contact, was integral in helping us figure out how to utilize the space for both the ceremony and reception - she even put together 3 ceremony options to help us visualize everything. The only thing to note is that it can sometimes take a while to hear back when you have a question; however, when you do hear back all of the necessary information is included in the email and everything is handled in a friendly, professional manner. If you're looking for a downtown Durham venue for a party or to get married, I would highly recommend The Rickhouse - the space is absolutely stunning and highly customizable to your specific needs and aesthetic. read more

I was the wedding planner for a couple who got married at The Rickhouse in April, so I worked closely with the venue manager, Sarah, in the months leading up to the wedding and on the day itself. She could not have been easier or more fun to work with and everything went off without a hitch. Sarah consistently responded quickly and thoroughly to emails, worked efficiently and calmly to prepare the space the day of the wedding (including troubleshooting some last minute decisions), and has the kind of friendly and easy-going temperament that puts people at ease and instills confidence that she has everything under control (which she does!). Aside from the incredible staff, the space itself is fantastic. It strikes a wonderful balance between industrial and elegant, perfect for anyone wanting a cool downtown space where guests can feel comfortable and at home. It's a real Durham gem! read more

We booked the Rickhouse for two events for our multi-event Indian wedding last summer. We were lucky enough to wander in just after the space officially opened, or we never would have been able to get a whole Saturday on such short notice! Every aspect of the Rickhouse was amazing. The indoor and outdoor space are very open, super unique for NC, and look great during the day and in the evening. Daniel in particular was super accommodating, easygoing, and really fun to plan our wedding craziness with. Our event was more hectic than most - in the morning, we set up a traditional Hindu mandap (wedding stage) indoors and joola (swing) outside for our wedding ceremony and served lunch for 200+ people. In two hours, Daniel, his team, and our wedding coordinator worked frantically to COMPLETELY transform the space for a seated wedding reception while everyone celebrated outside for the baraat (horse procession for the groom's side, for anyone interested in doing this - Durham Central Park is a perfect starting point)! His team worked closely with my wedding coordinator in the weeks leading up to the wedding, never lost their cool during our crazy event, and they never seemed to mind when I stopped by randomly in the middle of the day to show the space to different relatives about a million times before our actual event date. The location was great for everyone to go out after the event, too (lots of good bars in walking distance). Overall, could not recommend this place more!! read more

While I agree with the other reviews that this is a nice venue in a great location, I would give the service zero stars if I could. I sent in a wedding inquiry and received a generic email back listing what was included in the rental. As I was collecting quotes from vendors and exploring my options for my wedding, I followed up to ask questions. The response time was consistency awful and no one ever answered the phone - regardless of day or time. It was not until I started including my fiancé on emails that I started to receive responses and those were extremely vague. I asked for a follow up call several times to minimize the emails back and forth and never received a response. In the recording for the venue, it says to contact info@rickhousedurham or to email Sarah. When I did so, this upset Daniel, who was my initial contact, and he sent me a very unprofessional email indicating his frustration. When I responded and said that I contacted Sarah because his email responses were delayed, vague, and not sufficient, I received an email back thanking me for my feedback and was told that I was not the right fit for the venue and could no longer proceed. In connecting with someone else who hosted their wedding at the Rickhouse, she expressed that she hired a day of coordinator because Daniel was awful. For a venue that only rents out the space and does bar tending, you would think that they would have their acts together . The caterers and lighting company were all phenominal but I cannot vouch for the service here and was exrtremely dissatisfied with their unprofessionalism. read more
