With my…read morefather having an advisor in NY state, I randomly found Mr. Jones to help me settle up my late dad's accounts and deal with the paperwork. Couple agents at other firms, didn't even take the time to call me back. Even though I was not keeping the accounts with NY Life with Mr. Jones(I work for a financial planning firm near by), he was still very professional and awesome at getting everything done in a timely manner. If I was not in the business, I surely would be keeping my accounts with Mr. Jones to manage. It really means a lot to my brother and I during this difficult time of losing our dad to not have to stress about dealing with his accounts and getting this settled. If you are in the Vienna/Tysons area looking for an advisor, please reach out to Aaron Jones. Thank you

This was the worst experience I've had - the communication with Gerald was beyond terrible. It was…read morea series of trying to get in touch with him, and trusting his promises while he continued to disappear and be unresponsive for 2-3 weeks at a time. Initially, he told me that he expected to wrap up my return within a week because he was going on a trip. At the end of that week, we set up a call where I found out he hadn't even looked at the documents. He said he'd be done by the end of That week...I followed up with him again and he simply sent me a document with a price, but without following up on the items we had discussed over the phone. For the next 3 weeks, I couldn't reach him for clarification because he was "busy with clients", and then he sent one short email telling me he wasn't sure if we should do my other year's return, but with no opportunity to discuss. He then went on an overseas trip for 3 weeks without notice. 2 weeks later, after more follow-ups, we had a phone call where I told him how unacceptable this communication was and the confusing timelines/expectations. A full two months after our initial "one week" timeline, I finally received the returns but was too worn out to review them with him anymore. I emailed him to ask about a missing state return, and never heard from him again. Nightmare.

My taxes are pretty complicated since I have to file in multiple states. That coupled with the new…read moretax laws means that there was no way I was going to attempt to do my taxes myself. I called Dominion early in January and was able to get a spot as a new client. (I later learned that they only open a few new client spots every year, so I recommend trying them in December or January if you want to get a spot.) I called the morning of my appointment to make sure they were still open, since a snowstorm had canceled schools and many local business closed for the day. Not only was Dominion still open, but they were able to move my appointment to earlier in the day since other clients had canceled. As soon as Carson was done with his previous appointment, he welcomed me back to his office and we started going through the paperwork. Carson was so great. It's clear that he is extremely familiar with the tax code and entered all my paperwork quickly. He helped me access some additional information online when we realized I needed an additional piece of real estate paperwork. He even explained some deductions that we were eligible for that I was unaware of and allowed me to submit that paperwork later after I collected the necessary information at home. Perhaps the most amazing part of all of it is that Dominion only charges a $150 flat fee for your personal taxes. I thought for sure it would be like one of these chain tax places where the base rate only applies if you are filing in one state or have a single W-2. Their price is more than fair to know that your taxes are done right and you are getting as many deductions as possible based on your individual situation. I'll definitely be back next year!

It was a little awkward. My request to change beneficiaries seemed easy enough however I didn't know that each State Farm office dealt only with local policyholders. For example my policy was created and signed in Charlottesville Virginia where I grew up. So this location in Warrenton couldn't change anything on my policy. I would either have to go to Charlottesville to do that in person or they could fax and email documents print sign and send back. The lady I was sitting with who told me all of this was really nice. She even called the Charlottesville location and spoke to them helping me fix what I needed. Everything seemed to work out well enough but I think it's crazy each office handles local customers only and can't make changes themselves for "out of town" customers.
