Finally Found Home at Hope City…read more I walked into Hope City Church at a time when I was searching, feeling lost, and needing something more in my life--and I can honestly say, I've found exactly what I was looking for. From the moment I arrived, there was a genuine sense of welcome, purpose, and community. Pastor Eric Rountree and Pastor Jennifer Rountree are true pillars--not just within the church, but in the broader community as well. Their leadership is authentic, compassionate, and grounded, and it shows in everything they do. Hope City isn't just a place you attend--it's a place where you belong. If you're searching for a church home, this is where you'll feel seen, supported, and spiritually renewed. Highly recommend.

What I found at Hope City is a gathering of people who genuinely care. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming. It's truly a "come as you are" environment. The worship is dynamic and helps me to lay aside the things of the previous week and focus on the Lord. But the best thing of all is that sitting under and applying Pastor Eric's teaching has changed my life. Every week I am encouraged, corrected and empowered to live my life as Christ would without feeling judged or condemned. I'm so grateful to have found this church. If you're looking for a church home I highly recommend Hope City.

We found Kaleo church and decided to check it out. I am always nervous when checking out a new church, but we were welcomed right away! There was no time to feel awkward as everyone was so warm and inviting - something that is hard to find in your larger churches. I didn't realize how much I had missed actually being noticed and not feeling like "just another face in the crowd." Besides feeling extremely welcomed, I also very much appreciated the praise and worship and sermon-style. The message was deep and thoughtful. I left feeling filled and blessed. We will definitely be back for future "date nights."

We are a church of people who…read morerealize our great need for Jesus; we aren't perfect and often times fail each other, but the grace we receive through our precious Savior Jesus Christ, is BIGGER than our failures and reminds us that grace abounds and covers a multitude of sins. Daily we repent and thank our heavenly Father for ushering us into His presence by the blood of Christ so we can commune with a holy God who loves us perfectly and deeply. Our pastor, Tim Cain, brings the gospel every week! This is not a church where there is a pushing aside or sugar coating of truth - God has gifted Pastor Tim with great passion to share the gospel to ALL walks of life at no expense. It is a costly call, but worth it to him. We are blessed to have been given a pastor who desires to shepherd his flock well and care for us first spiritually. The people at Kaleo have big hearts for the El Cajon community and the homeless. We don't dress very fancy, the homeless join us for Saturday service and at our Missional Communities, and you will often see beards and tattoos. There is a big college-age community as well. We have a group of people with hearts for the SDCC students. A lot of the students and graduates attend our church. It's awesome the dynamic God has allowed our church to have. God has graciously allowed us to realize the truth of being all part of one body (without preference), with the Christ as our head through the diversity He has brought into this congregation. Kaleo church is more than a name and a building. It is a community of people who adore Jesus, who are learning to surrender their lives wholly to live according to His ways, and who delight in sharing the Good News with anyone who wants to listen...even those who may not.

The Final Straw with Grace was when I asked Sexual Freedom Ministry for prayers with my anger for the disregard of my wellbeing and self at the church. I later received a phone call stating, "They weren't equipped to handle my issue, and the MINISTRY isn't either." You're telling me the ONLY reason I'd show up on campus, to attend that ministry to find freedom from my trauma ISN'T COMPATIBLE WITH ME? and Cannot HELP ME?? The remaining community that I knew would shut me out as always.. Yeah. I despise this church now. It is disgusting. Here's my Google review of it: Been attending the church for a year and a house church For nearly a year. I noticed a clique and I know some people would never try to initate any conversation or get to know me the entire year. Stuff went down and I've apologized, but I know I truly don't want to be around people who don't care if I leave Christianity. No matter how I tried to be relatable or get to know others, I say a few shut me down. I know where their head is at with me, despite having good intentions. Some times when I would attend HC, apart from the leaders. I felt ignored somehow. Some people are very kind and loving, but expect few people to make judgments and never take the time to know you. This is a YP house church on Thursdays. The leaders are great. I love them. I won't lie about my feelings and experience. I wish those leaders the best, and to whom ever tried making me feel welcome. I will always remember and appreciate you. I know God is sending me away from that area, because why would you stay where you don't feel welcome all the time? I did speak to a few people, one in particular who I saw ignored me. Had a discussion about it, and when I apologized, I forgave them to. God still had shown me their true colors. Despite where you are... people see you and still ignore you, then lie or try to play nice about wanting you to attend (This person was not a leader). I share this experience for people to be wary and always recognized, no matter what setting you attend to, even church, sometimes you will be excluded. It's ridiculous because people that showed up less than 2 months ago were still more welcome than me. Invited into the clique. I've seen it all and proven my case that these people dont care. I apologized to those people publicly for telling the entire groupchat everything i saw, and how I was still excluded. They still act like I dont exist when I'm right there in front of them. I tried to invite them out for a hike before.. only one person showed up. I noticed when I was mentioning it as an announcement, the person I called out for not truly caring was scrolling on their phone as I was actively speaking. I dont ever want to feel that way in front of anyone ever again. I do not recommend attending that house church. I even asked people for breakfast. When I did it. Nobody responded. Nobody. But everyone will respond for other people besides me. Still grateful to have gone. Hopefully it will be much better at a different house church. If not. This place is not for me. For the second time, I was rejected from working with the children. I mentioned my experience and everything. I've attended an old house church For nearly a year, left because of all the reasons explained and more. I was rejected. A second time, I was rejected. What is worse is people that have been there for less time than me (two months) were accepted. The hypocrisy is unreal. I know I am not welcome by several people. I know this church does not want me here. I know I'm better off where people don't welcome me. To add ontop. I was attending a Sexual Freedom Ministry for freedom and everything. I told them groupchat how I left Grace and do not feel welcome. They called me to tell me they dont feel equipped to handle that issues, and the MINISTRY COULDNT HELP ME God help me. Rejected every damn where. This place is truly isolating. No community here.

After this past year, which was all about politics I do not want to hear it in church or rehash 'the past four years'.... I was initially drawn in by the music, but after doing some digging into the contemporary Christian music they cover, I was appalled to learn that those churches basically practice witchcraft... Bethel, Jesus Culture, Elevation and Hillsong with their grave soaking and sexual improprieties. After almost 2 years, several experiences just didn't add up with Biblical truth - eg female pastors, deliverance ministry and the emphasis on money. I've also experienced on more than one occasion, being shoved to the ground Benny Hinn style. This feels more like Christian show business. There's also a severe lack of reverence. Women dress appallingly, including some of the pastors. It's like they've forgotten God is holy! I've ended up at a Calvary Chapel Church and the difference is incredible. The pastor isn't part of an elite team. The worship isn't strobe lights and a big band that deafens you. He reads the Bible line by line every Sunday. Something Awaken fails to do. They instead cherry pick lines and create motivational messages like Joel Osteen. They're obsessed with power and money... and they're severely lacking a spirit of humility. I've hung out with people who one minute they're worshiping God and the next minute they're cursing. They focus much more on spiritual gifts (speaking in tongues and prophesying is huge) instead of the fruits of the Spirt. Coming out of the New Age this was a massive red flag. Because it felt a lot like manifesting. Having dug deeper into the Word of Faith movement and the New Apostolic Reformation, it became clear that Awaken falls under that category and though they say they're focused on Jesus, they're really focused on wealth and taking "territory for the kingdom." In fact, I've never been to a church until Awaken where they don't feed the poor. They treat Jesus like a genie, focusing on how he can enrich their lives, instead of focusing on how they can submit to His will and live as He did. The King of the Universe never even owned a home and slept on the ground for most of his ministry but Awaken's core message is to give generously to the Church so you can experience treasures on earth. The final strike was hearing from a friend that Pastor Jurgen was teaching how to channel the Holy Spirit through your hands. Which sounds exactly like reiki. In the words of John MacArthur, churches like these are serving another Jesus and another Spirit. If you want a real Bible believing church, this isn't it. It's show business.
