I start with an admission - it was not my idea to visit this hotel, Mrs G sought it out and opined…read morethat it was a the best hotel in Manchester. I was less keen because it was approaching London prices in Manchester where there are good hotels for substantially lower cost. But it was for one night and by booking a way ahead the prices wasn't too outrageous. However the package with prepaid car parking (an extra GBP40 or $50+) seemed absurd so I figured that I would park nearby for less. All my nightmares seemed to come true as we drove up late that evening (about 10pm) long after dark up some back alley into the hotel and parking structure. Why were we arriving so late? Because we called up at 1pm to reserve a table at their restaurant (the River) and found they could not (would not) accommodate us even as I explained that we were guests. I would have cancelled right then and there but I had prepaid so ....... One more negative strike was the off-hand way we were dealt with over the phone and "greeted" when we checked in (i.e. NO greeting, really manager - please train your staff in the basic skills of hospitality!!) It all ended up very different. The room itself, the bed, the bathroom were all 5 star. The location of the hotel was better than I had expected - right on the river and a short walk over the bridge and you were in the center of things. I still predict that you will be more than disappointed as you arrive at the front of the hotel - but once you are inside, you are embraced by the refinement indoors, by a couple of the staff, and by the spaciousness. How good was it? I called the front desk and booked for a second night, requesting the same room, and was lucky to get it at the standard rate of GBP198. Will we be back - yes please. Never done this before - so it MUST be good! However I just hope the manager reads this review and acts on the training of his frontline staff! How about the restaurant - what a disappointment - but that is a separate review... Two thumbs up! Review #105 2019

I went to complain half way through my stay and they told me it must have been me because it's on a pressure sensor. Made me feel that I was either been scammed by the hotel or that someone else had access to my room, maybe a previous guest. Both are not good and made me feel very uncomfortable in the hotel. I couldn't get service at the hotel bar for some reason too. I went in for a quick drink before meeting a friend and waited for 20 minutes without service. I then tried to order at the bar and was told it's table service only. Weird. Was I dressed in flip flops without a shirt you might ask? No, chinos with a button down shirt. I also wasn't told about the breakfast arrangements at check in so left the hotel each morning for breakfast. On top of that the "king bed" was 2 thin mattresses pushed together with scratchy sheets. It's a little inconvenient in terms of location so it has to be very good to justify that extra walk. This place fell massively short. Would not stay here again.

This is quite a cosy, decent looking pub but they just didn't really serve anything I would want to drink, Boddingtons keg being the most interesting, but ultimately unrewarding option. Radisson Blu Edwardian Manchester is one of the few luxury "five-star hotels" in Manchester…read more Located on Peter Street, just off Deansgate in Manchester city centre this stunning hotel, opened in 2006 is somewhere I've wanted to visit for a while. In the past, it has even been home to footballers including Benjamin Mendy, Leroy Sane and Zlatan, it is also a regular haunt for away football teams including PSG who stayed here ahead of their game versus United, I even managed to see Kylian Mbappe in the lift! Considering this is a "five-star" hotel, it does sometimes have good, affordable deals, I paid £100 for my room on a Sunday in early February, with breakfast costing just £12.50 more for two people, but rooms do often go much higher often costing between £126 and £200, and sometimes going much higher than that so the hotel is generally on the pricey side most of the time. I still don't understand why third-party booking agents are so much cheaper even by 20%+ in some cases, which was the reason I booked my reservation through Hotels.com Check out is far too early at 11, but they had no problem extending it to a more suitable time. Upon arrival at the hotel, I was greeted by a lovely employee who helped me into check-in and then shown me my room, kind and helpful, making sure I had everything I needed, including lowering the card hold from £100 to £1.50 because I didn't plan on any extras. The service in most cases was impeccable, one of the maids even offered to turn the bed over after emptying my minibar. The hotel lobby is also stunning, I was offered water on check-in which was infused with mint and lemon and tasted great. There was also two bottles of complimentary water in my room including fresh fruit accompanied by a personalised, hand-written welcome note, a lovely touch. Sadly they could only place me on the second floor, however, the room seemed to be mostly quiet as there were multiple doors between the lift, there was standard corridor noise but this wasn't as bad as other hotels, every door and lift in the hotel did require the room key - inconvenient but a safety feature. This hotel is stunning and modern, with large smart TVs including all Sky Sports channels (best TV in a hotel!), USB and European charging plugs. (I would have liked one closer to the bed!) The room also has a nice glass desk which is a perfect, spacious work area. Other modern features include a switch to open and close the blinds in the room, as well as a "do not disturb" switch rather than the sign which is used in 99% of hotels. I also liked how the hotel relied less on natural light which many modern hotels do now, hence having lights around the room including above each individual bed which can be turned on/off in parallel, making the room much brighter & nicer. I found my room to be warm and spacious, the heating system was easy to use and much quicker than other hotels I've stayed in again. The large bathroom with a stunning walk-in shower also was excellent. Information provided to guests from the excellent staff at reception and even through the live-chat system either with a senior hotel staff member or Edward, the virtual assistant which can answer most problems instantly which all hotel guests get. If the issue is too complex for Edward, the hotel gets back to you quite quickly such as when I had an issue with the fire drill - I was phoned in under an hour to confirm it is generally around 2 pm on a Monday. The hotel operator when needed, answered the phone quickly even at busy times. My room was almost perfect with a great TV and a comfy bed. I would have liked: having a pen instead of a pencil, earl grey tea in addition to English Breakfast & Chamomile and a larger bed. (I was given a room with two twin beds.) The tea however from the high-end Newby brand was fantastically luxurious. The wi-fi was super fast, with download speeds of around 90 Mbps, it is by far the fastest wifi I've experienced in a hotel. A decent breakfast is served in the Peter Street Kitchen between 7 and 10:30 Monday-Saturday (+1/2 an hour for Sundays & bank holidays). I added it at a reduced rate of £6.25 from £20. (see https://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/peter-street-kitchen-manchester) Overall with a comfy bed, I did have a decent sleep but struggled down to the size of the bed and slight corridor noises. I was told it wouldn't be possible to put an extra bed into a double room - therefore I was offered an upgrade for my next visit to the hotel later that week to the stunning Junior Suite. It was simply spectacular with a huge, comfy bed, an even bigger TV, coffee machine, a personalised housekeeper & more. In over 2100 reviews and close to 50 hotel reviews, I've never seen a hotel like this - luxurious, fantastic and with my only complaint is there's nothing to complain about, so with great delight, I am awarding the Edwardian a coveted five-star rating with the only main improvement being to keep working at this standard.

NQ never ceases to amaze!…read more "Lets goto the new pub round the corner from where we live" retorted a friend when quizzed on the P of A for the night. I was intrigued and then a flashback. On a particular night the week before I witnessed a 2am refurb going on, builders were hard at work transforming this particular building into something very appealing. As we walked in a week later, Abel Heywood was born in our reality. What an establishment! Let's get one thing straight, I love the NQ. But, as I've mentioned numerous times in previous reviews, Thomas street on a late Saturday night has begun (unfortunately) to resemble (much like somewhere like Printworks or Deansgate locks) a George Romero film from the 70's. That's exactly how we felt driving through it on our way to Abel. Now Turner street on the other hand has always been my favourite. It's that street in the George Romero film the Zombies haven't discovered yet. So we quietly parked there and tiptoed into the Abel avoiding attention of the Thomas street crowd. And wow, what an oasis. Calming music plentiful booths and comfy couches to sit on and timely bar service with friendly staff. The drinks range I've been told is fairly decent and there's a restaurant and a boutique hotel on the first and second floor respectively. Most of all the chilled out vibe on a saturday night was a clear winner. The seating booths are super comfy with heaters lined in between, which is likely to be a God send in the upcoming winter chill.

Check-in took me less than 5 minutes total. No issues, no hassle and they even comped me a breakfast for the next morning, which is typically £17.50. So that was nice. The room, it was amazing. Big, beautiful and very accommodating. The bed was great, large, comfortable and I fit on it, which seems to be a rarity. In the bathroom was a large jet tub and a large shower. Very well done and classy. The room came with a nice flat screen TV and free view stations. One entire wall of my room was a giant window overlooking Manchester, which was great! Now to the lesser parts of this place. There is a large lounge to the right of check-in. It has many tables, seats, a flat panel TV and a full bar. There always seemed to be two or three people working at the bar, which was rarely super busy. If you went up to the bar for a pint, they would tell you to go sit down and they'll come get your order and bring it to you. I sat down for 10 minutes waiting, eyeballing these guys who were standing around doing nothing. This happened multiple times while I was here. Suck. With my comped breakfast waiting for me, I headed down to the restaurant. I was seated as far in the back as humanly possible, which the rest of the restaurant wasn't very full at all. It was buffet style, with an omelet/egg bar. Took me 15 minutes to get a cheese and ham omelet. Really? Were they raising the chicken and waiting for it to drop the eggs right there? When I finally get my omelet, I head back to my table only to find that they have sat someone else there already. WTF!?!?!1one! The food was good, so that was nice, once I had a table to eat it on. There was also some mysterious shortage of glasses, bowls and plates. You'd think they'd have that figured out. All in all, the hotel is very nice and modern. I enjoyed my stay there and may or may not stay there again when I am back in town.
