Montanoso Rec somehow takes 90% of the best bits and puts them all in one spot. The variety of equipment available is huge. I spend a lot of time in the stretching and movement quality room, which even has a massage table. Their weight and cardio room is stacked with great equipment, including two barbell bench setups and a Smith machine, and they have a separate lifting zone too with an Olympic platform and two squat racks. Outside there are battle ropes and a TRX area, and there's a full group fitness studio to boot. I've seen the negative reviews about the staff, and they couldn't be further from my experience. Everyone has been welcoming and friendly from day one, so if there were any issues then they've been resolved. Similarly the pool, which was completely refurbished a few years ago and is in beautiful shape. Swimming in the late afternoons is my favorite time, as it isn't usually crowded and that's when the sunlight breaks through the trees into the water and everything sparkles. The pool deck is really nice too. The crowd who train here are a good mix of local high school athletes, older folk still putting in work, and a few diehard Ironman competitors. The local fire department drop by to work out sometimes too. It's low on posers, I've never seen anyone videoing themselves or dropping weights. Most people keep themselves to themselves and get their training done. I've heard (not witnessed) a few stories about people being a bit territorial in yoga classes, and occasionally the barbells can get a bit grimy and need a pre-use clean, but I'm nitpicking to find anything bad to say at all. If you want to train properly in MV, this is your spot.

Whole park is really nice, green, and clean. Huge complex with all kinds of fields for different sports and plenty of parking available. The city did a really good job when they built this place.

It was really peacefully today when I strode through the park. The grass field is well maintained with some flowers adding color to the scene. I heard quite a few birds chirping, adding the sound effects. There is a small playground and a volleyball court open to the public. The tennis courts and pool/spa are only open to members of the Serrano Park Community Association's members and guests. Beware there is no bench in the park to rest your legs. There is no facility on site either. So plan your outings accordingly.

No inflatables even if they're small, closing on odd days even if you have a membership. And no nighttime swimming if you want to use the Jacuzzi. Like I said a lot of potential and it seems like a decent place to take kids. But not everybody has kids and would like to enjoy it too, without people yelling about rules every second. I understand that this pool has lifeguards and that's fine, but I think they take their job a little too seriously especially if I'm the only one in the pool. Lol

However, I don't visit it these days for the following reasons: - It's overall short. - There is no designated parking for the trail. I think you could park in the elementary school during the weekends. There is also some street/residential parking. - It is inaccessible. It starts as a cement paved path and stairs which are all VERY steep. You could stop there, as there is a bench with the same view. However, hill you have to climb up to get to the top is very sharp, jagged, and steep. - I saw some big, black, chunky spiders at the top. - It is very scary and slippery to come down the rocks, and there is no alternate route.

There is a nice meandering walking…read morepath that goes around a one acre pond, which is perfect to bring my Mom for a nice walk since it's a shorter distance around the park vs the 1-mile walk around the Rancho Santa Margarita Lake. I love that there are a few water fowl families that live at this park, although the pathways closer to the water can get a bit dirty with all the poop bombs that the geese leave. It seems like the City and County takes care of the mess every so often because there are times that I have come here and the sidewalks look almost spotless and other times not so much. It is quite peaceful hearing the water from the water features and the quacks of the ducks on your stroll as it is a little off the beaten path with only neighboring locals really coming here. Our dogs enjoy coming here as well as there are always lots of new smells to encounter. We will be back!
