During our experience, school administration provided inaccurate or misleading information during the enrollment process. This included representations about the gender composition of incoming classes and the grade levels typically offered. Although the school is listed as serving K-8, enrollment has not historically supported consistent offerings across the upper grades. The school also lacks adequate training, policies, and structural support for a diversity of learners. Families whose children require accommodations or flexibility--including those supported by physician documentation--may find that exceptions to stated policies are not respected, even when based on medical need. Overall, the gap between how the school presents itself and the day-to-day reality was significant. In our experience, this environment was far less supportive and far more rigid than local public school options, including Portland Public Schools.

I can't say enough good things about the teachers, staff and families that make up the CLASS community. The small, age-blended classes allow the teachers and staff to truly understand and cater to the needs of each student. More importantly, the teachers and staff truly care about each student and are highly dedicated to their success. I'm truly amazed at the job they have done fostering our son's emotional and academic development. They've helped instill a sense of confidence in him that I never thought would be possible. Most parents are also very involved in the school (and several of the teachers/staff have kids at the school) which helps create a true sense of community. As the saying goes, "it takes a village to raise a child" and our family is extremely grateful that our village is the CLASS Academy community.

From the first time stepping foot into mind and minds I knew this was the place my son needed all along. Kids with Autism cannot fake their feelings, so I knew that if my son was comfortable in such a new environment and with a new person that he truly felt safe. Adely catered to all my sons needs and always kept in contact with me. And as her clientele grew, she ended up opening a new center that was bigger and offered everything our kids could ask for. From trampolines to exercise equipment to an indoor and outdoor playground , Adely had it all. This was not your typical therapy place or strict school, instead it as literally everything put into one space. A school, a social place, a playground, and most important, it was a place my son felt safe. She took the time to work one on one with my son and targeted areas that we wanted to focus on. I saw a huge improvement in my son and will forever be thankful to Adely. She truly treated my son as if he were hers and no matter the day or time she always made herself available to us. Not only did we finally gain the best therapy my son could ask for, but we also gained a life long friend. What an amazing place and even better, what an amazing women and friend. This place is home to us. We will forever be thankful to Adely and what she has done for our family. God bless you and your above perfect mind and minds! I wish their were ten stars I could give this place!

The transition was very smooth and now in her 3rd year there, she's still doing wonderfully. The community (parents, administration, teachers, support staff) are all relaxed and intelligent people that clearly love and value children. The Montessori philosophy and learning environments are authentic and beloved by the children. There's plenty of interaction between the children and the outdoors, with fun interactive garden experiences and an interesting outdoor play area. Tuition is the same as most other Montessori schools, and they offer before and after care, and plenty of opportunities for parents to volunteer. Good times!

However they changed the math program- curriculum & teacher and both are awful. The math teacher should not be teaching young children- she is rude, doesn't communicate well, she mocks the children (as I witnessed in online class) and my child who normally loved school, didn't want to go to math because of how rude she was. She taught them a phrase "chocolate chip, zip your lip" which I found, as well as other parents, was not appropriate. And the math curriculum they brought in was NOT customizable or user friendly. It was awful. And I brought it to the administration and basically was told "too bad". I spent countless hours reading, learning, trying to ensure my child learned in the best way possible & the only reason they worked with me was because my child had a 504 plan. It was a mess and we left because of these changes. It's truly sad because Mrs. Archibald is a saint and amazing at what she does, but she doesn't have the school mirroring her.

We had an amazingly positive experience with this school. Again, highly recommend!!

Some of those things that they say...and some of the crap that they pull...it sticks with you into adulthood. I'll tell you a secret: No one ever told me I was cool until I was in high school. And I was shocked the first time it happened. Anyway...my experience there alone has had me debating for about 45 minutes how many stars I would give this school. Two? Three? Is that mean? What if people from there read this? I mean, my fam's still part of the parish. Okay, so after a long think, I've decided on four stars. And it's not the fear that someone I'm connected to through the school/parish will read this. Because really, I'm rating the education I received, too, not just the snotty, rich classmates (several of whom now seem to be very nice people and productive to society). My life has been sort of one long chain of events, and looking back, I can see how one has affected the other. I had an edge in college because I went to St. Mary's Academy and worked ridiculously hard. And I had an edge at St. Mary's because of the rigid curriculum I was put through at Holy Family. You heard me. It was a rigid curriculum! I can't say that I loved all of my teachers, but I was doing manual long division in fourth grade. I can't honestly say that I can even remember how to do that NOW because we're all so dependent on calculators. Everyone feared sixth grade because that was when everything changed...you were in the upper-grade wing...and you had homework to match your new status. (And in eighth grade, my parents invested in my reliable Kelty backpack just so I could carry all my books.) I took writing classes there (hell, I was learning MLA in seventh grade!), my creativity was encouraged to grow (I still have an eighth-grade art project framed on my wall), and I gained major critical-thinking skillz (they even had a class devoted to it!). When I moved on to high school, I thought, "Heck! Is this *IT*?! I've had harder tests in Mrs. McCarty's science class." The other thing that I love, in retrospect, is that the classes are relatively small, and you really get one teacher for most of your classes each year. And they've made Spanish-language classes a requirement. And a lot of kids from Tucker-Maxon went there, so we were also introduced to the deaf community. So really, if you take out the social aspect (and the fact that I leached onto altar serving and youth group as a consolation), Holy Family really did give a very good education that I would recommend to any parents in the Southeast area.

The struggles she was having in the public schools were more than they were prepared for. Ridicule was beginning because of her falling behind. School was becoming a nightmare for her. The lack of resources available made it a downward spiral. Park has the resources. The knowledge. Teachers that are prepared to handle the needs of kids with learning difficulties.
