We checked all of them out and decided on München: Food Hall & Bier Haus. It's right next door to the TSB Bank Arena (Macklemore was playing that night). We dropped in on a Saturday evening (around 6:45pm). The place was pretty lively and the bar was busy all night long. The dinner menu is split into entrees, würst/sausages, specialties, schnitzel, salads, mains and burgers. The drink menu is quite large and there's also snacks, bites and sharing platter options. There's a happy hour on weekdays (5:00pm to 6:00pm). They also have specials from Wednesday ($0.10 wings) to Thursday ($20.00 NZD bier & burger). - Hofbräu, Hefe weizen ($10.00 NZD 400mL) - easy light drinking. You can't come to a German bier haus without getting a beer. - Schweinshaxe ($39.00 NZD) - pork knuckle, homemade knödel dumpling, sauerkraut, potato salad and bier jus. This plate was absolutely massive. Super easy to share. The pork knuckle was tender, moist and full of flavour. The skin had a nice chewy crackle to it. Everything else was delicious including the side of mustard sauce. - Bratwürst ($25.00 NZD) - served with kartoffelpüree, sauerkraut, haus gravy, pickled vege and Bavarian mustard. The two smoked pork sausages were excellent and well seasoned. We asked for this dish to be dairy free; they sadly removed the mashed potatoes from our dish but didn't replace it with anything else. - Debreziner ($25.00 NZD) - beef & pork sausages with rustic spice. Think there was about 6 smaller sausages. We tried one and it was tasty. - Rinder schnitzel ($25.00 NZD) - crumbed tender rump steak & haus gravy. Our other friend's dish. We started with some raw oysters, smoke fish croquette ($9.50 each), focaccia bread ($9) with artichoke dip ($12), seafood chowder ($30), and the beef tartare ($28). Our favorites were probably the oysters and the focaccia bread with the spread. The oysters were fresh and we enjoyed trying them all. The focaccia bread went great with the spread as the bread was warm and the spinach dip was a nice cool dip to match. The bread was also perfect to dip in the chowder. For the entrees, we ordered a side of green beans ($14), fettuccine ($27|$37), Lumina Lamb Backstrap ($19 per 100g), and the Japanese wagyu ($85 per 100g). Our favorite out of everything was the wagyu. The lamb was delicious but it's not comparison after you have a bite of the wagyu. The Wagyu was cooked perfectly. My kids shared popcorn chicken and small fries (thankful they had Heinz ketchup since my kids do not like Watties or other tomato sauce). Even at the Grabone price that was pretty poor value but for a full menu price of $19 it was shocking. My friend expressed dismay at the dish and to the restaurants's credit they replaced it with the steak sandwich. We also ordered calamari salad which comprised of a few pieces of calamari scattered in a bowl of salad greens. That was a very small portion also. Finally we had their version of the big breakfast with eggs, ciabatta bread, scrambled eggs, sausages, mushrooms (there was one mushroom in the disk), baked beans and tomato. List price for that was $20. Other cafes in town do much better big breakfasts for less. On the whole a very unsatisfactory experience and I will never go back. They need to really review their menu items and the descriptions and employ a more skilled cook/chef.

The mud crab legs were way overcooked in the seafood boil and mushy. The calamari was probably the highlight of the food we tried. Lastly, the restaurant did not have any parking, so we had to use the nearby parking garage which ended up costing $30 for only a couple of hours.
