For some unknown and bewildering reason, I stumbled across the Glasgow Tree Lovers Society. Needless to say, it was quite an experience.
However, more about Tree Lovers later, presently, I would like to bring your attention to a piece of work by Benno Schotz. This is a 1974 semi-abstract stick figure composition which was commissioned by the Tree Lovers and Glasgow Art Gallery and Museums Association. It forms part of the Tom John Honeyman (a great supporter of Schotz)'s memorial garden in Kelvingrove Park.
If you appreciate this relatively late Schotz work by, who is best known for his modelled portraits. These, along with more Schotz sculptures can be discovered and rediscovered on display in Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
An unusual sculpture that was made especially as a memorial to a dear friend. This is part of Glasgow's cultural character and one of it's main claims to good art. Both, the memorial garden and the more extensive Schotz collect at Kevlingrove Art Gallery and Museum are worth investigating. read more
