Was disappointed that the range limited our tournament to mats (yuck!) for warming up. Also, the back nine was great, but was woefully disappointed by the front. Bit of an old school tree lines course with lots of holes very close together. Not necessarily a bad thing, just didn't suit my eye. Staff was incredibly accommodating and facilities were great.

It seems extremely well run from everything I have seen. Food is delicious both in the restaurant and at the turn. The turn is especially efficient and is right next to the 10th tee box. The golf course is underrated from my point of view. They hosted the Maryland Open recently too. It's tough from many sets of tees and provides a lot of variety. The tips are a bear but it's never easy from further up. Greens are generally big with lots of slopes. They are usually in great shape and can get fast. Deep bunkers (the design is called Billy Bunkers) both green side and along the fairways. Practice putting green is huge but may need to be flattened a bit. Chipping and bunkered green is fine. There's a second putting green that's not used often. Range is smallish but it suits needs unless the place is jam packed. Lakewood had a great golf course, an amazing club president, and both of the golf pros I've met are awesome and knowledgeable. I wish I made enough to be a member here.

Some minor broken stuff (like the lock on the stall) and a big jug of liquid soap on the counter, because the dispensers don't work. But as to the experience, I'll let the 16- and 17-year-olds tell it: M: Violent cardio, 5/5. O: Not recommended for massive parties. J: Very fun experience. A1: It was fun but they don't have regular Coke, only Coke Zero. A2: Fun but most definitely geared more toward kids (this made me chuckle but I guess at 17, DGS is entitled to not think of himself as a kid anymore). I did notice that, as is usual, prices at the concession were kind of ridiculous - $4 for a smallish popcorn, etc. But as I said, the attendant was nice. I asked if they sell coffee & they said no, but they would make a batch for me and it was on the house. I declined, as there is a Dunkin' nearby. But it was a nice gesture. Let's go! I was sad when the Columbia location closed down, but Gaithersburg is still rocking and I think this arena is far more interesting than the Columbia one. The arena is the right level of dark with fog machines running too. There are several platforms with various access ramps. My favorite details is that a few platforms have a grate where players can shoot down at others below (watch out, they can shoot up at you too!). There are always rapid fire and mega power Gems for upgrades and a third that rotates by game (invisibility, invulnerability, dark thief), so definitely sign up for 3 games if you can to experience the full rotation. The prices are reasonable, especially in today's economy. There is a water cooler to refresh yourself between games, because you will work up a sweat between the crouching and quick moving around while wearing a phaser pack. It's our favorite workout, to be honest. There is an arcade with a variety of games, including prize games, driving games, and shooting games. The main area also has concessions to snack on. Overall, if you want some workout and fun, check out Shadowland.

It was magical and I literally can't wait to go back. The staff was awesome! Will emailed me later letting us know my niece forgot her eyeglasses there, how awesome is that!? So many people would have just tossed them or not taken the time to email anyone. I was impressed by his patience and professionalism dealing with 3 teens and 1 8 year old who were a bit needy. The games also don't really have good tutorials when you start them, so it took some time to figure how to properly play most of them. It's about $50 per person for an hour of game time, which seems a bit excessive for what you get. It's a cool experience to try once but not sure I'd do it again for the same price.

The event featured a combination of 40 restaurants, food vendors, representatives from local businesses, family activities (e.g., face painting, soccer, and dance exhibitions). I dunno, I thought there could have been more restaurants that participated in this year's event. From what I heard, previous years had more participating restaurant/food vendors. However, I understand that maybe some restaurants in the area probably did not think it was in their best interests to participate due to increased costs and uncertainty that it would generate new business. In terms of tasting, perhaps, it was not anything too special to me since I have dined at about 90% of the restaurants that participated in this year's festival. So, it was not like I had the opportunity to try out any new restaurants. I guess it was nice to have several of my regular restaurants together in the same couple of blocks. While I get that the vendors want to make a profit or make enough money to make it worth their while, I thought some of food prices were a bit high relative to the experience. If I'm going to pay close to $20 for tree tacos from a restaurant, I'd much rather just go to and eat at the restaurant...especially if when super hot outside with limited amount of shade. Although I (as a childless 40-yr old) probably will not block off my calendar to check out next year's event. I'll be more than willing to check it out if I'm in the area and/or have plans to hit up one of my local, nearby bars.

Note: Golf review only…read more I LOVE this track. It hosted the 1921 US Open which already says a lot. There is so much history here and it is a fantastic location. I know some complain about the layout but they truly maximize the land they have. It will be interesting to see how the Purple Line affects a hole or two. The mix at this course both off the tee and into the green will test every part of your game. They also have some of the best greens I have ever played on and apparently this is a constant throughout the year. One hint, stay below the hole. The par 3 16th (I believe) is iconic and may have been the influence for Augusta National's famed 12th hole. The 18th is a brute and a beauty heading back to the clubhouse. I have also had a great experience with everyone playing at and working for this country club the two times I had the privilege of playing it. I played in a match here and they guys we played against were great golfers and even better hosts. Bob Dolan, the head professional here for decades, was also very gracious. It was fun being in the presence of a legend. And while there is a very high end feel to the club, I never felt too out of place here. That's saying a lot for a guy who grew up only being able to afford munis. And there are other prestigious country clubs in the area where I can't say the same. Obviously it was an absolute privilege to play here, and I hope to be back some day.

I generally host quarterly dinners here for my company with about 40-55 people total. The grounds are very nice and the clubhouse has the feel of old money exclusivity. We have used two of their larger private rooms for our dinner presentations and all evenings have run smoothly. They do have microphone and projector screen on-hand. The events are never understaffed and dinner service and passed apps always move in a timely fashion. The food is decent for larger events. The past apps are really good, I'd suggest the bbq chicken cups and coconut fried shrimp. The entrees are standard and mediocre which is common for groups over 20 at all venues with the beef being slightly above average and the crab cakes slightly below. The food always arrives promptly on my timeline which is key in our business meetings. The main ballroom, I think, is best for business/corporate events. Although, classy with a pretty patio attached, the ceilings are low and it doesn't have a real WOW factor for a wedding. Very little direction is needed here and this club truly is a "yes" club. Parking can be an issue if there are multiple events on your evening, valet is available if there is an attendant on-hand. Jackets are required for men after either 4 or 5pm and there is also a no cellphone policy.

I am always happy to visit this club. The course is excellent. It has a smaller footprint than…read moremost, but they truly maximized the space. The greens and green surrounds are some of the best. The fast green speeds on a daily basis function well with the slopes. One rarely has a straight putt here. The surrounds have a great mixture of tight fairway grass, thick rough, and deep bunkers. Each hole has playable spots which make strategy an essential part of scoring well here. Some people may think it's too short, but I think that adds to the level of thought getting around this track. Many times driver off the tee is not the play, and that is also pin specific. Not a lot of courses around here get to that level which is why I always have fun. I have many favorite holes. The par 3s probably stand out the most in my mind. Each has a different type of elevation change and each asks a different question off the tee. They are just so good. I also love the par 5 4th hole. It looks like things kick left off the tee but there's some subtle slope that keeps your drive going straight. After that, the second shot is blocked by a tree and a well placed bunker on the right, and everything kicks left. Then the green has one of the deepest bunkers guarding short left. Essentially, you have to take on some risk not matter what. What adds to it is how getable that second shot is with a perfectly placed tee shot. That hole has so many layers. The driving range is good. I just need to set up my Trackman app the next time I'm here to get the most out of it. The putting green is awesome. So many ridges running through it, just like you would see on the golf course. There is a chipping green and bunkers towards the back of the parking lot as well. It's little used but should provide any shot you need from 75 yards and in. The members have been welcoming and fun to get to know. I have been here about a dozen times and only had one not so great interaction. Luckily we skipped a couple of holes to get around them and continued to have a lot of fun that day. I haven't explored the clubhouse much, but the food I got one time was excellent and I loved sitting outside with our excellent server. I am sorry I forgot to get his name! It is always a treat to come out here. I hope to do so again in the near future!
