Burford is full of tea and coffee shops, which is just as well as at weekends and particularly in…read morethe summer the place is absolutely thronged with visitors going up and the down the High Street, which is just about the only place there is to visit (excluding the church if you turned a blind to the retrofit modern furnishing) so the Copper Kettle has a lot of competition. You would therefore expect nothing but the best, but sadly I was disappointed. The service is pleasant and obliging but my heart sunk when I saw the length of the menu, even the choice of daily dishes consisted of at least 6 items... on top of course of the 40 or so in the menu. Now, I don't know about you but this always rings alarm bells. I mean, how can everything be "fresh"? If it really were so and given that when I arrived only two other tables were taken it would have meant vast quantities of wasted food daily, so the obvious conclusion is that freshness in this instance refers to temperature, rather than date... Deciding therefore to go for a simple omelette, to play it safe so to speak, I was however also disappointed as what came to my plate was more like an egg's patty than an omelette, well cooked on one side and basically uncooked on the other. This is not a matter of having unrealistically high standards, but why can't people in catering get it that less is very often more? I'd rather have a well made piece of toast, or a sandwich, than a complex dish made badly, don't you? What a pity.

Easy to order from the screen but they're super helpful if you're stuck or don't know how to navigate it. An old man actually showed up while I was ordering and he had no clue what to do. He must have been in his 80s, it was nice to see how chilled and super patient he was helped by the guy behind the counter, who walked and helped him. Cheers to that. The place itself is so clean and super spacious. Two levels with the WC on the bottom level. The large windows on the top level allow you to seat and watch the street outside. The chairs to lounge are super cozy and comfy. My coffee latte was super tasty and my ham and cheese sandwich was the perfect combination of sweet and savory.

If you add extra toppings they just will not add them. You have to wait over 10 minutes after recieving it for it to melt even to the extent that you can begin breaking up the solid frozen block of acai, banana, granola, and penut butter. Even once it has thawn enought to attempt to eat it, all components are bland and flavourless. Also insanely expensive (£8+) for an approx 7.5 cm diameter bowl of frozen, flavourless slop.

I find a lot of coffee places just don't really want you stay and they have hard, uncomfy furniture to reflect that. But not here! This place often has events that extend its opening hours, too. My favourite is the 'big comfy folk club' which are folk and acoustic sessions hosted on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month. Next one is on 4th March and tickets are only a fiver! Brilliant intimate venue, and the performers usually stick around for a while afterwards which is nice (: OH ALSO, WINE! The big comfy book shop serves alcohol! Live music + book shop + cake + red wine = total winner. See you on the 4th!

The owner spent over a year compiling books to open his shop, and ever since has kept a good variety of books that are unique to customers, or a popular search result of a used book. There is always fresh coffee, tea options, beer and wine, and some sort of snacks like crisps or cake for sale. Seating is available to hang out with friends for a little while or to start tucking into your future purchase. Also I noticed that live folk music nights and game nights regularly occur here too! Great place!

Well, it was a good thing we did, since we didn't get to go back for afternoon tea... Just as the name suggests, it is located right by the canal. It was very picturesque, peaceful and relaxing. They also have seating upstairs, and had histories on the canal, with photos posted all around the wall. Their cakes looked amazing, but I decided not to order any dessert on this day. Yes I know, a big mistake! Our friend ordered Heavenly Hot Chocolate, and it looked so pretty! We went with Teashop House Blend Tea, and Earl Grey. The young boy who brought the teas (I hear this is a family-run business) was trying to very careful not to mix them up. But the funny thing was, he totally mixed the tea up! LOL. We didn't realize until half way through... I thought the House Blend tea tasted so much like Earl Grey. For lunch, we had Ham, Cheese & Chutney Sandwich and Eggs Benedict. They were both tasty, nice portion, and filling. Our friend went with something healthier, and ordered one of their vegan sandwiches. It is nice to have that option if you want or need vegan dish. We had a nice quick lunch here. It was adorable and cozy. The food was good, not amazing, but good. I think the sweets might be better than the actual food...I will never know, unless I go back! Lesson learned: don't never expect your plan to go just the way you planned them...and have your dessert first!
