People on Yelp leave some terrible reviews. this place deserves 5 stars. Typical old school WI dive bar. Great place, great service, local.

First of all Mike they don't sell canned beer. As for you Tom they cook frozen pizza and there are no male bartenders that smoke.

Great pizza. Horrible bartender. He was more interested in talking to people in the bar or going out for a smoke than bartending.

The Mineshaft - This is the "hearty" portion of corned beef. It's thinner than the bread.

Tyler's service was fast accurate and very professional. I had the ribs and my partner had the chicken tenders. Just as I tell people by word of mouth, "If you wand really good ribs that come off the bone nicely, you just have to try the ribs here at the Mineshaft." Once again, as always, an extremely satisfying visit to the Mineshaft. A fantastic place to eat. Incessant Research (Investigative Research & Journalism. Not for hire.)

I got the Ruben, which the menu describes as a hearty portion of corned beef. You'll see in the picture there were 3 thin slices of lunch meat type corned beef. Husband got the patty melt. He thought it was OK, not great but not terrible. I thought it tasted like propane. It had a distinct gas taste to it. We had the "nachos supreme " as an appetizer.... my fault I should have read beyond the title. One assumed that supreme meant Toppings. Nope. Ground beef, liquid cheese, on chips, with jalapeños. That's their version of supreme. Bland, after a couple turned gross and colgulated. First time here since moving back to the area a year ago.... go somewhere else. Uncle Larry's is a MUCH better alternative.

JJ's On The Bend posts frequently in a local restaurant social media group I'm in, so I've known of…read morethem since they opened a couple years ago in the location that used to belong to The Wedge. They're a little farther out than I usually go for a fish fry, but I had time on this particular day and wanted to give them a shot. I ordered the Baja breaded fish with homemade chips and mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. The fish fry comes with a side of mac and cheese too. The mozzarella sticks are an incredibly good value. Not too many places sell the awesome wonton wrapped kind that's also battered and it was surprisingly six sticks for only $8. I hope for every customer's sake they don't realize the mozzarella sticks are undervalued and raise the price or change what kind of sticks they serve. When I called to place my order I asked what the Baja breading was and was told that it wasn't spicy, but it added some flavor. You could have fooled me cause both the breading and seasoning had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. Additionally, the fish was DRY. It's not often that I choose to not eat the fish I order, but this was one of those rare instances. The homemade chips were good. A couple pieces stuck together when they were fried so not every piece was super crunchy, but close to it. The cheese sauce for the mac and cheese was flavorless, yellowish-orange paste that weirdly had more heat due to specks of pepper than the Baja seasoning on the fish had. I was excited that my meal came with mac and cheese, but ate only a couple bites before giving up like I did with the fish. JJ's is cash only. I don't know if they have an ATM on site as I had cash with me and didn't need to look for or ask about an ATM. Though the mozzarella sticks were great, the fish being so bad is why I'm leaving a 3 out of 5 for my review.

Heileman's is one of those WI bars that you expect when you live there and miss when you move away…read more Let's be serious- it's never going to be more than a place to pop in and either grab a quick drink or sit a spell and talk with the locals because you have to know it's here or be with someone who knows it's here. On my most recent visit, we were on the lake and decided to pull up to the dock and walk across the street to visit with friends who were at the bar. There is no signage on the lake so I guess you just have to know where to go. A quick walk up the hill and across the street and you find yourself in a little slice of Wisconsin complete with an outdoor volleyball court and I think they were playing cornhole on the day I was there. Drinks are well poured and the beer is cold and flowing. What else do you need in Summer in WI?
