It is the oldest unaltered brick textile mill in the US (built in 1823) and the only industrial knitting museum in the US. It's a little tricky to find, though! We had to run into a florist shop (I figured they had to know how to get around town) to get directions. We went during a weekday so it was very quiet, which provided us our own private tour. The docent was passionate about the history of the mill. He even fired up the engines for us...music to my husband's and father-in-law's ears! This is a wonderful living museum. I'd never thought about how socks were massed produced before! I can't remember if there was an entrance fee or not.

It took a few years, but I finally got there and it was just as wonderful as I had hoped, even in the cold rain! The weather added a bit of fog and mystery to this amazing annual festival in a quaint New England town. And really what's more perfect than a sweet little town with incredible foliage and perfect crisp, cool mountain air? The streets of town were absolutely filled with pumpkins! Everywhere we turned there was a new display to discover! Some kept We loved seeing them during the day, and then again at night. Make sure you plan to stay for both! Well worth it! Some shopping around town at both new and vintage stores, costume parade watching, fair and street food truck noshing, games and races for kiddos too. The entire town is one big festival! We enjoyed a seasonal, candle-lit dinner and sat outside where the wait staff were dressed for Halloween, and then it was time to head back to see the pumpkins lit at night! Seeing them all lit up was magical!! The Pumpkin towers was awesome! Don't miss that! I actually thought the bit of rain we experienced was perfect as the light from the Jack o lanterns reflected off the puddles! So even if the weather isn't perfect, don't let that stop you! I've been to a few pumpkin festivals and what I love about this one is they are all real! There's nothing more going on than the simple art of pumpkin carving. Street parking was easy to find. Everyone was super nice and helpful. The entire weekend was amazing! If you have the chance to go, make a weekend out of it!! *older photos did not sync with this review. Check 'em out!

She filled us in on what to expect as we embarked on our cruise. She introduced us to our Captain Brian, who welcomed us warmly and familiarized us with the safety features as well as the background on the Gorgeous wooden Hacker Craft, with its exquisite rich wood and lovely hunter green upholstery. Brian was phenomenal! His knowledge of the Lake is vast, and he has a gift for communicating in a way that is educational, fun and engaging! It's as if he's been doing this forever, and gave us a perspective on Winnipesaukee that was multi-faceted...taking in points of environmental interest such as loons and an actual volcano, human interest, such as celebrity residents, all the while cleverly weaving in the rich history of the lake, including a very heartwarming story of a young Native American man and his lovely bride to be. It was as if he was introducing the lake like an old friend. Brian is seasoned and at the same time humorous. We enthusiastically recommend this cruise. We loved it!

And even though there was a fairly stiff breeze blowing up some chop, the Millie B just plowed through it all. Just be aware that getting wet is all part of the trip.... I want to do it again! The NH Boat Museum is still housed in its location on Center Street, and you can see how great it will be when they move into their new spot in a couple of years - hopefully. Be sure you watch the historic video before going through the museum itself so you get a better sense for the things that you'll see. This isn't a big museum, and if you don't appreciate the historical significance of these boats and life in the Lakes Region, then you probably won't enjoy the 5 minutes that you'll spend walking through the exhibit. My wife and I savored each boat and read all of the documentation, and really enjoyed it.
