Before I even started bringing my dog to the Posh Paw my first issue was that they NEVER pick up their phone. You always have to leave a voicemail and sometimes you will get a call back and sometimes you won't. I received the owner's actual cell phone number and that's how I was able to get my dog signed up for day care. So that was issue number one. I have only ever done half days at the Posh Paw and almost every time I picked up my dog or dropped him off there was something that was a little alarming to me. I would pick him up and would go to look in the play area windows and he would not be in the play room with the other dogs, this happened a few times. The reasons were that they were cleaning the day care room out (understandable) and that my dog was in the grooming room, another reason was that there was a dog who was aggressive with my dog so they had my dog placed in the grooming room again. When they went to go get my dog that day the aggressive dog was there, I could hear the start of a fight in the back. Somehow, when they went to go get my dog, they cross paths with the aggressive dog and the sound I heard were my dog and that dog almost getting into a fight. Luckily a fight did not break out but it was a careless move made by the staff and the dogs should have never been that close after realizing earlier in the day they didn't get along.
Another concern of mine was I don't believe my dog ever had enough access to water. I say this because EVERY time I would pick him up he could not drink enough water when we got home. He would clear 2 huge bowls of water in seconds and that still wouldn't be enough water. He would drink so much water so fast that he would throw it up after. And when there was snow on the ground, he would leave the Posh Paw and go straight for the snow and could not eat it fast enough to get water. I finally said something to the ladies when I would drop him off, telling them he needs more water while he is in their care but even after saying something, my dog would still leave extremely thirsty!
Another concern of mine was a few days ago when I dropped my dog off for another half day of doggy day care. First, when you walk into an animal boarding/day care center you do not expect there to be a bunch of dogs roaming free in the reception area (there is a play area for a reason). Because I was not expecting this I opened the door pretty wide and was greeted by several dogs and I have two issues with this. The first issues are, what if one of those dogs got out? The Posh Paw is on a very busy road and I would have been devastated if one got out and was injured/killed by a car. Secondly, my dog was very overwhelmed and every hair on his body was up because he was not expecting to be greeted this way either. He was on a leash, which can make a dog uneasy in this situation and he was also with me (his owner) and could have felt he needed to protect me and a fight could have very easily broken out given the surprise situation. The staff member proceeded to tell me these were dogs were boarding and in training and that is why they were in the reception area. I do not believe it is okay to have that many free roaming dogs in the reception area where customers are constantly coming in and out of the front door, in my opinion; there are too many bad scenarios that could happen.
I wish I was done with the issues but I am not. I have boarded and brought my dog to day care centers before and my dog has never smelt like urine when I pick him up until bringing him to Posh Paw. My dog would smell so bad of urine; it was like he had been laying in it the entire time he was there. I understand that there are a lot of dogs in the day care and accidents happen but with how bad he would come out smelling, it indicates that the accidents were not being cleaned up.
It was a couple days ago that I had enough with this facility. I walked up to the play area windows and noticed they were all completely blacked out, so now, there is no way for me to see my dog while he is in their care. I walked in and after standing there for several minutes I decided to go find out where someone was. I walked in the back and shouted "hello" many times, no answer.( had to cut my review up, it did not all fit, here is the end) She was the ONLY person working; what if there was a fire? What if there was a huge dog fight that broke out? Those are a couple of many questions I have. There needs to be wayyyy more people hired in order for this place to be a safe and ran correctly. I gave the Posh Paw many chances and I really wish I felt differently because bringing him to The Posh Paw was very convenient and the interaction is great for my dog. read more
