Surprised my five year old with tickets to the polar express for her birthday and as soon as it was over she announced she wanted to come again the next day. The staff is really kind and patient the songs are entertaining and they really engage the children. It's a really cute experience and I will probably return next year. There are picture opportunities before you board the train so I would suggest arriving at least 40 minutes earlier than your reservation.

An awesome way to get the kids in the Christmas Spirit. The reading of the Polar Express and the live action performances were awesome. I wishes that the hot chocolate was warm as it was served cold. I love hot chocolate. Santa made an appearance and was available for photos. The prices are steep but you get what you pay for.

    It's the North Pole!

We weren't sure exactly what to expect and my hubs isn't exactly the most festive of people. It was raining when we visited the P.E. on 12/13, but (thankfully) not down pouring. The earlier time slot was waking to their cars and parking was a bit confusing at first. They had wanted us to park across the street as the lot is shared with a church. But we saw someone with their lights on getting ready to leave so we asked the parking lot attendant if we could just grab that one, which we were able to. Woot! The best spot, first in the lot right in front so we parked and dashed from the rain inside. Our friends had already arrived and the tent inside was loud and chaotic, no real sense of order. They had a beautiful Christmas tree in the center which provided a great photo op and some movie backdrops as well which my son wasn't patient enough to wait on line for. They did keep things moving quickly and we didn't have to stay in the tent long before they queued the line and we waited to go outside. This is where the story of the Polar Express begins..... After an initial prelude to our visit to the North Pole we boarded our car, the Glacier Gulch. It was nice that each car wasn't packed and the seating was comfortable. Each train car has their dedicated performers telling the story and singing the songs while reading the book. If you have a child with sensory issues, the beginning was VERY loud, like too loud for me even but the volume settled down a bit. It did rise at times and if you feel this could be an issue for your family, they do have rides specifically for a lower sensory experience. I don't want to give too much away but will say that the performers are all very talented and always with a smile on their face. Also the hot cocoa was delicious, and I am not much of a cocoa person per se. Paired with the snickerdoodle cookie - so good. It is pricey, as is to be expected for a touristy Xmas thing. My advice - travel coach and do it on a Friday to save some money. I don't think the first class is worth it, for only getting a mug. Avoid the shop after as it is insanely crowded and very overpriced. Would love for them to do something a bit more fun with the North Pole aspect of the ride, it goes by quick and is a little lame. But for a fun holiday memory, definitely do it once. For three people (2 adults, one kid) with tax and parking it was $190. Don't forget to wear your jammies!

The place is inside an old bank, and the safe deposit boxes are still in the vault beneath the TRON neon sign. Very cool atmosphere that adds to the whole experience. From the moment we arrived, the entrance was a standout disguised as a regular laundromat with a bouncer outside. The door itself was cleverly hidden, blending in as a regular washing machine, and if you weren't in the know, you'd probably miss it entirely. Once inside, we descended into a spacious area with two bar stations and a stage set up for live music, which gave the place an exciting, eclectic vibe. Since it was our first time, we asked for the cocktail menu and were fortunate to have Dan as our bartender, easily one of the best bartenders I've ever encountered. His drink-making skills were on another level, and we immediately struck up a great conversation. Dan started us off with some unique choices from the menu. I tried the Smoked Apple Fashion, which was incredibly smooth with a crisp apple flavor and a subtle smoky finish. It was so easy to drink almost too easy! My girlfriend ordered the Gangnam Style, which was visually stunning with boba pearls, though not very strong if you're after a more potent drink. Next, I had the Cider House Mule, and it was hands-down the best mule I've ever tasted. They swapped out the typical vodka for spiced rum, and it was a game changer bursting with flavor and perfectly spiced. This is when things started to get really fun. Dan, seeing that we were enjoying ourselves, began crafting custom drinks for us, starting with Dan's Malibu Special for my girlfriend. She loves Malibu, and this drink was fruity, smooth, and delicious. It was so good, I had to order one for myself. Dan recommended adding a shot of tequila to give it a bit more kick, and he wasn't wrong this was next-level good. Honestly, Dan's Malibu Special needs to be a permanent item on their menu. It's that good and would definitely be a hit. Dan then served up a Peanut Noir Old Fashioned. I know I know, peanut in a cocktail sounds odd, but it was incredible! I was blown away by how well the peanut flavor worked in an Old Fashioned. It was one of those drinks that make you question why you haven't had something like it before. Dan mentioned that unlike many places that use store bought ingredients, they make a lot of their mixers and components from scratch. For instance, their ginger root is muddled fresh for mules rather than relying on ginger beer, which really makes a difference in flavor and freshness. Following that, I tried a Chocolate Old Fashioned, which, while still very smooth, was probably the weakest of the Old Fashioneds I had that night, but it still went down easy. By this point, I was starting to feel the effects of all these fantastic cocktails, especially since I hadn't eaten all day! I ended my night with a Summer Old Fashioned, garnished with either rosemary or thyme (I can never tell the difference). It had that signature smoothness Dan brought to all his Old Fashioneds and was a perfect end to the night. The ambiance of The Laundromat was fantastic. It had a lively yet relaxed feel, with a mixed crowd of both older and younger patrons. Sports were playing on the TVs, and you could tell the energy would pick up even more when the live music kicked off around 7:30. Unfortunately, we had to leave before that to grab some food (after all that drinking, I needed something in my stomach!). Thankfully, I had the foresight to take a Lyft to The Laundromat, easily the best decision of the night. Overall, The Laundromat is an absolute gem. The drinks were some of the best I've ever had, the conversation with Dan was great, and the atmosphere was perfect for a fun, laid-back night out. I'll definitely be coming back, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and memorable cocktail experience.

Everyone crowds around the outside of the train until the conductor waves the golden ticket in his hand and invites everyone on board. Adults less so, but parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents will experience secondary joy from watching the little ones become enveloped by this immersive show. The train ride itself is a short back-and-forth ride on a single track with all the windows covered with wintry decals. But no one would think to complain about the lack of a view because the show makes the whole thing worthwhile. A well-trained cast brings the old picture book to life, complete with live songs, snacks (warm cocoa and shortbread cookies), props (that double as keepsakes), and a visit from Santa. The actors and actresses deserve their own paragraph of laudation. The Polar Express employs an entire cast for each train car (including some that I assumed were shared between train cars), and they're incredible. Not only were they high-energy and perfectly timed with the different acts of the show, but they were WONDERFUL with their interactions with everyone in the car, especially children and babies. In my opinion, they're the backbone of the magic that is the Polar Express train ride experience. Online reservations are a must, and be aware that these tickets seem to sell out fast. We booked our tickets in mid-October and were surprised to see so many seats already booked. Tickets reserve specific seats on specific cars, which makes the process of finding seats on the day of seamless and well-organized. Family pajamas are de rigueur and add to the festive atmosphere of the day. The last thing I'll add - a warning really - is to CHECK YOUR GPS closely on the day of your visit to make sure you're headed to the Whippany location. The address is a common one, and a lot of us were accidentally routed to the wrong address. Judging from the fact that this same reminder is printed in bold and underlined text at the bottom of our confirmation page, it seems this is a common error.

Gustav Stickley, a key voice in the 'American Craftsman' movement, held very progressive retailing views for his era - launching a magazine as well as a chain of retail stores (including a 12-story flagship showroom and restaurant in New York City) that showcased his 'Arts and Crafts' design ethos of home furnishings with simple, unadorned, and comparatively plain designs. Think of Gustav as the IKEA of the early 20th century. The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms began as another of his innovative ideas that never came to fruition - a trade school for boys to teach them farming and vocational skills that was located on a 640-acre plot of land in Morris County, New Jersey. When the school failed to materialize, the Stickley family lived here in his Log House, designed and constructed by Stickley to reflect the epitome of the Arts and Crafts aesthetic, for several years. Facing financial challenges from his failing retail empire, Stickley sold the property in 1915 and it remained in private hands until 1989 when Parsippany-Troy Hills Township acquired it to preserve this historic landmark as a museum rather than letting it fall to the wrecking ball in favor of another townhome community. The Log House is only accessible to the public via 60-90-minute long docent-led guided tours on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00pm and 2:30pm. Tickets are $15 for adults; $10 for seniors; $7 for students with valid ID; and $5 for children up to age 12. Our docent Joan was very knowledgeable about the Stickley family, the original and reproduction artifacts in the home, and the other tiny details that make all of Stickley's creations unique. If you appreciate the Craftsman movement or just want to see where a design legend lived, this is a must-visit historic site. PRO TIP #1: Leave young children at home. With lots of fragile and irreplaceable artifacts within a toddler's reach throughout the museum, this isn't a child-friendly environment. PRO TIP #2: Renew your library card and check whether your local library offers complimentary museum passes for the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms or other local museums.

Craftsman construction spread across the country in part thanks to American furniture designer Gustav Stickley. The most identifiable feature of the home is a low-pitched roof with overhanging eaves and exposed rafters. Another characteristic trademark is a large front porch with sturdy tapered columns. Located off the beaten path of Route 10 inside a 30-acre country estate in Morris Plains, my partner and I had the chance to tour as first-timers this 1911 house of Gustav Stickley, internationally known for his multiple roles as a philosopher, publisher, social critic and associated today with his straightforward furniture, sometimes called "mission" or "Craftsman" furniture. A reservation was made on their website. Upon entering the Museum/Gift Shop, we were greeted by the staff. The tour of 12 people began with a short 5-minute intro video about the family in their renovated kitchen and through the house from the main floor and the second-floor bedrooms. The centerpiece is Stickley's massive Log House, restored to its 1910-1917 appearance, which exemplifies his philosophy of building in harmony with the environment by using natural materials. The tour ran only 1 hour but was packed with so much information and sights of historical background regarding Gustav Stickley and really brought what we were viewing to life. The docent tour leader husband/wife duo Bob and Jan were excellent. The price didn't dent one's pocket, which we could recommend for woodworkers, craftsmen, antique enthusiasts, and children over 10.
