Backstory- Back in the day, that would be 1935, Steve Maxwell was a big-time citrus grower. He had over 100 acres and opened this quaint little store to showcase his fruit and the packing house behind it to process it. Today, Steve is getting on in years and has leased this quaint country store to some fine folks from Frostproof. Atmosphere- An old-fashioned front porch with rocking chairs for enjoying the Florida weather. An immaculate old-style interior will all manner of citrus based food and paraphernalia. One of the highlights is orange ice-cream! Grab some, sit in the rockers and let the stress fall away. The little ankle-biters will love it! In season, this is the place to ship Florida citrus to friends and relatives. Just this last December they shipped over 600 boxes! If you are in the area, grab a meal in tiny Avon Park. Although the small building looks unassuming from the outside, inside is a trove of treasures. I haven't seen so many different gem stones since I visited the Museum of Natural History in NY. My favorite discovery here was the blue and purple kyanite. It's almost like visiting a museum except you can buy whatever you like. They also carry dream catchers, bric-a-brac, home decor, shells, wind spinners, crystals, incense, and wood carvings to name just a few of their items. The store is packed from floor to ceiling. If you are in the Sebring area the Green Man is definitely worth stopping for. I had a very nice visit with the owners daughter Brittney who showed me around the shop. Aunt Laurie's carries a wide variety of confections including house made chocolates, nostalgic favorites like moon pies, pop rocks and wax bottles, novelty candy like gummy Lunchables, candied nuts, taffy, fudge, truffles, rock candy, chocolate roses, caramels, popcorn, and children's toys and beanies. The candy may be filled with sugar but nothing is sweeter than Aunt Laurie who wants to be everyone's favorite Aunt. She greets you with a silver tray of candy because you are family and no one can walk around her store without eating candy. I wanted to purchase a chocolate dipped pretzel covered in Rolos and she insisted on gifting it to me along with a freshly dipped chocolate covered Oreo. I had to insist on buying something so I purchased a chocolate dipped pretzel covered in Snow Caps. The chocolate dipped treats were amazing. I wish I had gotten more but I had a long day ahead of me in a hot car. Next time I visit I will be sure to bring a cooler. Auntie Laurie also does gift baskets and party favors. If your child is celebrating a birthday be sure to bring them in to visit Aunt Laurie for her special love and attention. The candy is wonderful but just being around Aunt Laurie is enough to put a smile on your face.

Arriving- They are in a store front on Main Street. They actually rent from the almost 100-year-old Jacaranda Hotel that helps define my little town. Street Park out front or park behind the hotel and walk through. Handicapped Tip- The building was built when folks were less enlightened and there are a couple of nasty steps to enter but if you need help, there is a plan in place. Press the wireless doorbell and an employee will come out with a portable ramp and assist you. How cool is that! Ambience- This is a tiny place with a décor matching the vibe of a decades old historic building. Check out my pictures. Customer Service- My Barista was super friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and had a great smile. What more did I need! Products- Just what you would expect. Coffee and tea in all the hot & iced varieties you would expect. Also baked goods. I have posted a menu of their seasonal specialty drinks. I didn't do anything fancy and went with a large, iced latte. It cost me $5.15, was made nicely, tasted wonderful and really hit the spot!
