I have tried all of the fad classes that have come about in the past few years and none hold a…read morecandle to Barre Code. I get gym anxiety (yes it's a thing) and I have never once been nervous to walk into a class or felt judged. The classes are not super crowded so there's plenty of room to move, especially when you're uncoordinated like me and take the brawl class. The instructors are all super encouraging and keep you motivated. If you have the wrong form they correct you in a super low key and positive way. There are a lot of incentives through out the year to keep motivation going. Cassie is super fantastic and helpful with figuring out the best package to get. Each instructor has their own style and you are never bored. This is not the easiest workout ever so when you are finished you feel like you've accomplished so much! If you have been on the fence about trying just do it, I promise you'll feel so rewarded after. My friends who do other barre classes in the city and I compare our moves and our abs now! I can write a novel about the positive impact it's had on my life. There are so many different class times for those of us with non-traditional jobs. I love my Tuesday lunch class with Sonia and my later classes with Cassie and Bridgette. I've only gotten Lisa a few times but she's fantastic and eased me into the bar experience. Don't take it from me, go try yourself!

I had the opportunity to take two free classes at the Barre Code. I enjoyed the friendly nature of…read morethe staff and the studio was nice. I felt that the classes were a great workout to, but I didn't like the setup of the room -- due to the direction the windows face, they get blazing sunlight. As a result, the window shades were closed -- I like natural light. To compound matters, both classes I attended were done in the the dark with a blue/black light type atmosphere that just didn't do it for me. Because the studio is in an office building, the bathrooms are outside the studio and managed by the building -- they didn't have soap the time I used them... I really did like the workout, just didn't love the vibe from the setup and the class scheduled didn't meet my current schedule. I do, however, encourage you to go to the studio and give it a try -- you will get a GREAT WORKOUT!

My friend invited me to brunch at Midtown Athletic Club (they are a member). The public can't just…read morewalk in, there are gates in the lobby and I had to scan a code (and fill out my info) before entering. I visited Midtown before as a prospective member so I know that guests can only enter a limited number of times. We went upstairs past the cardio machines (they are plentiful) and the weight area to the cafe. There are tables and booths that overlook the outdoor pool area (closed for season). It wasn't a large brunch but we had some made-to-order omelets, bacon/sausage and fruit. There was also some potatoes and pastry. When I sat down to eat I received a text from Midtown about a membership. The brunch was bottomless although one omelet was enough for me. I also had two emails from Midtown when I got home, one a waiver of liability and the other a membership offer. I didn't join as a member on my previous visit and I am not going to join now. I already have a Pilates membership that includes three studios with classes from 6am-8pm. Midtown has a Pilates studio but none of the class times work for me. They also have some reformers in the middle of the cardio area reserved for private lessons. If I have a private lesson I would prefer to be in a secluded area, not in the middle for all to see. The facility has many machines, a boxing area, a cycling studio, a theatre, a spa, a cafe, courts, pool, etc and this is a great place for those who need this. There are families who spend the morning at lessons, classes, workouts, then join up in the cafe. This is great for those who are looking for this but it doesn't fit my needs right now.
