Okay, I admit it, a custard tart too. I was lucky enough to work across from this little gem. I believe a good coffee is hard to find. And so necessary, especially when working in a call center, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Lucky for me, JT's have great coffee. They have a great range of cakes, slices, breads, etc. I can vouch for the daily freshness of the muffins. Jt's also are able to do birthday cakes to order, and are can also provide platters for catering events.

It's a pretty small shop just outside the supermarket, and the stuff they sell is pretty reasonable. I haven't had a bad coffee there yet. I mean, I am not an armchair barista by any means, but I like a good cappuccino to cope with the boredom of supermarket shopping. The fact that the vanilla slices are alright doesn't hurt, either. Apart from the waistband, but it's worth it. Service wise, they're friendly enough. They can be busy at times, but you don't often have to wait very long to be served. I must admit that I don't buy bread there very often. Occasionally a roll or two, but that's about it. The bread does look okay though.

If it weren't for the gluten-free, this would probably be a pretty standard bakery. However,…read moreBECAUSE of the gluten-free, the Swiss Bakehouse deserves many repeat visits. What is so marvelous about the gluten-free selection is that it is so casually placed on the shelf. As if you could so easily just slip in there and buy gluten-free by mistake. Of course, proper anti-contamination measures have been taken but that's how it Looks. On top of looking like any old gluten-filled pile of baked goods, the products at the Swiss Bakehouse taste like any old pile of gluten. Which is to say, like, totally rad dude. Pizza rolls! Real "I just sprinkled some bacon and cheese on this roll for you" pizza rolls! If only they weren't so salty, I'd probably be poor, overweight, and very sick of them by now.

Coupled with a lovely cappuccino, I couldn't have asked for a better way to start the day. I really enjoyed breaking off a piece of the prosciutto and mozzarella and using a bit of polenta to soak up all the lovely juices. My one and only had a tough time choosing her brunch but eventually settled on the sweet corn fritters with bacon and egg. The egg was poached wonderfully and ran all over the corn fritter, creating a dish that was very pleasing to eat. Loved everything about this place and will come back again soon

The cakes are the kind that make you drool every time you walk past. They are all made using fresh ingredients, and you can tell, they look amazing. Our gingerbread was great, light with a nice crunch and good flavour, but unfortunately the lemon tart was disappointing and was far too bitter to finish even with two of us sharing it. We ordered two juices as well which were super fresh and refreshing. Atmosphere: As the cafe is quite large, it can feel a bit quiet very easily. We found it felt a bit deserted even though there were still quite a few people in there. It has a nice design though, good separate area for people ordered take away and bright artwork on the wall. Service: Service was friendly and it's nice to go somewhere for a snack and feel you are being treated equally to people ordering main meals and we were, nothing was too much trouble. Would I go back: If I was passing. It's a shame, on the face of it looks like a great place but the cakes just didn't live up to expectation.

I've been to France on the odd occasion, and I must say that every time I was in a Parisian bakery I'd think to myself "Wow, this feels a lot like Blackburn." That's not entirely true, but Blackburn and France are joined with a wonderful bakery serving the most delicious french pastries and more. Wit both owners as pastry chefs, you wont find a better place in a good ten kilometres of here. The only problem I've had every time I go it "What to have?" which often leads to "What to have first?" The menu is simple but seemed to be reasonably executed food, many specials on the blackboard - some odd combos listed. Basically brekkie, salad and pizza - so when in doubt we opt for the basic. Rocket salad with some parmesan and balsamic vinegar took us back to the 90's. A chewy crust mushroom pizza had a good selection of fungi. But in all honesty we were dining on the atmosphere on a warm sunny day. When the band packed up promptly at 3:30pm the spell was broken, the pleasant atmosphere valiantly upheld by waiter "Maurizio" whose cheeky sparkle made me think of Agador Spartacus of The Birdcage.
