He picked up my phone calls and responded within a timely manner to my text messages. My piano was given to me by my mother last month. It hadn't been tuned in at least two decades, so I wanted to go with someone I knew would do a thorough job. He charged a flat rate, which was a little pricier than the other quotes I received, but I still decided to go with him because he seemed knowledgeable and experienced. And I was right. I couldn't have been more satisfied with the end result. He vacuumed the inside of my piano, tuned it three times, and was finished within 90 minutes. My children now love playing the piano and tickling the ivories. I will definitely be calling Dan the next time I need to tune my piano. Thanks Dan for doing a fantastic job!

He is also a musician and one of the few tuners in Los Angeles who can tune purely my sound. I thought I'd leave a review today because of how impressed I was with his work after this months piano tuning visit. His trouble-shooting was spot on. We had a few drops of wax from candles we burned atop the piano over the holidays. He was able to hear the faint change in sound where the key felt had been damaged by the wax. It was nearly imperceptible to the eye until he dug deeper and found the drops of wax. He repaired all damages and completed the tuning. I was so relieved, but when I got the bill I felt like I was underpaying him for the work. I recommend him to anyone who asks. He truly is a piano whisperer.

If you are a serious musician, I do not recommend James…read more He quoted me $300 for a tuning, well above the roughly $180 local market rate I had been seeing. Given the neighborhood and the piano, the pricing felt opportunistic. I specifically requested a well temperament. He was unable to do it and did not appear familiar with the temperament systems I was referring to, so no tuning was performed. I literally sent him home with an article on temperament tuning to read. I also asked him to investigate a buzz. He removed the action, found nothing, and was unable to diagnose the problem. He then tried to charge me $200 for simply removing and reinstalling the action. We eventually settled on $120 for the 45 minutes he spent at my house. So, to summarize: no tuning, no diagnosis, and a $200 attempted charge for pulling an action. For someone with a serious instrument or specific musical requirements, I would look elsewhere.
