Most of us were trouble makers due to our disabilities. The school accepted us none the less. I'm 52 years old, and did finished my college with a BFA from Memphis College of Art. I've worked my way through technology up to a Database Administrator. None of that would have been possible if not for the Bodine School and it's founders the Bodine's.

Our relative was miserable in public school because he could not read nearly as well as the other…read morekids and felt inferior. This impaired both his self-image and his interpersonal relationships with other people. It was then determined that he had severe dyslexia. He became a student at Bodine. He did not know anyone there. Within a matter of weeks, he was a much improved person. He accepts his dyslexia, loves his teacher, has made lots of new friends, and has begun to read and write and do math at much improved levels of accomplishment, and this is after just the first semester. He looks forward to going to school. We could not be happier with Bodine. It is such a huge blessing for our relative and for our family. Also, without exception, the other parents who have shared their feelings with us about their offspring at Bodine have similarly expressed their high praise for Bodine. We thought CHS (Collierville) would be the best choice but we found it offered very little in programs & classes at the time. Me & my family then talked about Houston & I had no objections to it as I wanted to attend originally & I was happy to enroll starting the 2nd semester of my freshman year. With a fresh start to close out the school year. I adjusted to the environment & made friends within the first few months there before the summer break. With a New year & a fresh start I started checking out the sports & other programs offered. I ended up joining the Wrestling & Football which were just developing into the greatness they achieved throughout the 90's. Those are very excellent programs as the coach's are passionate on the field or may in edition to their classroom. The clubs offered at Houston are also excellent like BETA ,DECA , Pride,FCA just to name a few. From Mr. Clayton to Coach Taylor their head & assistant Principals have always been the greatest next to the teaching staff past & present. If I had a kid high school aged & lived in the area presently I would send my kid here. The school is set on the edge of a wildlife reserve, and was built amongst swampy forest, with wildlife and plenty of trees to set a scene respectful of education and nature. The athletics at this school are obviously a priority. The fieldhouse is large and contains not one, but two gyms, workout space, ample locker rooms, and more. The school is based in Christian education, though the idea lives more in the values of the school, and is not thrust upon students every day with drills. This is true also of SGIS, as students begin and remain a full grade level ahead, even of most private schools, earning the elementary school the nickname, "Baby Harvard". Students here are raised using classroom reporting and speech giving for public performance. Seniors at the high school must complete a thesis defense as graduation requirement. School plays are well rehearsed and colorfully performed, from the jk circus play to the second grade insect play.
