Elaine is the sitter from hell. Or the psyche ward? We reached out to Elaine for petsitting about two weeks in advance. She did not confirm that she would do the job but instead agreed to call to setup a time to see our pet arrangement. As the days were winding down toward our trip abroad, I did not hear from her even though she said she would call. Concerned about my pets, I decided to decline her services after giving her ample time to reach out. I need timely confirmation that my pets will get care when I'm leaving the country, so I can't wait until the last minute. When I gave her the news, she blamed me for not checking in with her, despite her telling me that she would reach out to me. I replied by saying that it's her responsibility to stick to the agreement to call me, and that it's a poor customer experience to put the burden on the customer to continuously check in, especially when the customer has a very busy lifestyle (as many San Franciscans do). Elaine did not take this well, in fact, she blew a fuse and started to verbally abuse me. She went on a long tirade, leaving multiple disturbing voicemails, calling me a sexist pig, accusing me of harassing her for asking for my key back, and yelling about how she works 365 days a year. The fact that she had my house key worried me so much that I had to change my locks, incurring a cost of $150 (since I have 3 locks with the same key) and about 2 hours of my time. She tended for my two cats for a week (though my shy one never actually came out to meet her!) and I was never worried about them at all. It's such a relief to know they are in good hands. We had been using a company that had several kind people that would visit our cat when we were away, but our cat is very timid and hid while any one of them visited. Elaine visited our skittish cat solo and was able to coax him out of hiding while she attended to his food and water dishes and while scooping out his litter box. I feel that each time Elaine visits that Ramses gets more and more comfortable with her. Although I've recommended Elaine many times to many friends, I no longer can. After accepting partial responsibility and agreeing to pay for half the damages incurred when my bunny tore up my couch under her care, Elaine fired me as a client, reneged on her agreement to help pay (though still agreeing she was partly responsible), and told me to take her to small claims court if I wanted anything else from her.
