SPCA is a very affordable place that pet owners can visit to get services such as adoption, health clinic and vaccinations. I came to the Juniata location to take my dog Diamonds to get her updates vaccinations. Vaccinations are on a first come basis and it was very crowded. Our wait was about 2 hours. Luckily you can chose to wait in the car or run errands and they'll call once your name is next on the list. Our doctor was very friendly, gentle and patient. After the visit the doctor provided Diamonds with her updates rabies badge along with a free harness and leash!

I worked with Rachel who was extremely patient with me and answered all of my questions. The other workers were friendly and they would openly talk about the personalities of the dog and they're genuine. I went looking to foster a dog. I was aiming for a small dog but when I didn't see any small dogs I began to look cautiously at the medium dogs that might do well with our family. Rachel let me look for a long time and I asked many questions. There were 2 dogs I thought might work.Rachel answered more questions and set up a time for Rachel and me to spend quality time outside in a large gated area with each dog at a time. I decided on the large dog. This is not what I first wanted but after having our Foster dog for 4 weeks even through Christmas and lots of visitors it's been the best decision. He's handful but we have many hands in our home full of love to give.

From the low cost vaccines to the food drives for low income pets, this organization is out there to make a difference. Having been a volunteer for the organization I've seen first hand the pervasive nature of caring that everyone employee and volunteer alike share here. There are few organizations that have the reach of the PSPCA with its multiple locations and humane law enforcement branch. The vet is low cost as well. So if you end up in a pickle and do not have pet insurance than you won't find a better option. The vet staff is extremely knowledgeable. You get more than you pay for here unlike the majority of vets. This is where I found my pup! There is a vast "green house" with every type of dog. It's impossible to not find what you are looking for there. Or even to come there looking for something but having your heart unexpectedly melted by surprise! So remember adopt don't shop.

We had our golden doodle spayed at the Spca here and we are very happy with the care. From the scheduling phone call to the procedure and post op instructions, everyone was very nice and informative! It's not a fancy place and is not in a good area, but I know they are doing the best they can with the funds they have. They provide low cost services and, for this, I am very grateful. They took really good care of our little girl! She is recovering well. They provide an e-collar after and pain medication.

Definitely 5 stars. I went by there yesterday because my cat MooMoo died and I wanted to ask about getting him cremated. The woman at the front desk looked at me, handed me some tissue and offered kind words. I'm pretty sure she noticed how distraught I was and she was in turn very patient, very kind and I can't express how appreciative I am Bc of that. After going through the whole process, paying and signing necessary paperwork she went and got MooMoo from my vehicle with me and offered to give me a stamp of his paw. I love that. She didn't rush me to leave his side, allowed me a moment to stay with him. It was very nice of her. Very human of her and I'm very grateful for that. Thank you.

Our beautiful Bella :-)

My beloved went 'just to look' while I was on a road trip, and got in touch to tell me she thinks she found a great companion for our gregarious shepherd mix rescue, Marlowe. She suggested I come and look when I return the next day. "No", I told her. If the dog you're seeing is all that, then go ahead, otherwise we'll come in together and she'll be gone, and we'll weep. I came home the next day and there was Rosie, a small reddish pittie girl in rough shape. She'd just had a litter, probably to fighters. Tip of her tail was raw. Her hind quarters showed where she'd had flea infestation while living on the street. Her ribs were sticking out. That said, my wife was absolutely beaming, and nursed her back to health, beginning with lots of hugs, comfort, good food, and more love. Rosie has been with us five or six years, curls up with us constantly, and is a ferocious protector when we have unexpected visitors. That said, we have an acclimation routine where she is introduced to people, slowly. Once that is done, she will protect THEM as well. Thank you, ACCT, for paving the way for such true love to walk into our world.

To Whom It May Concern,…read more I am writing to formally express my concern regarding my recent experience at ACCT Philadelphia while attempting to adopt a dog. After careful consideration, I decided to move forward with adoption and drove approximately 30 minutes to your facility. Upon arrival, I identified several dogs I was interested in meeting. However, when I was called to the adoption counter and provided the names, I was informed that none of them were available. I then inquired about a pair of Akitas whose kennel card indicated "rescue only." During my conversation with the staff member assisting me, I was told they were in fact available for adoption. At that time, my application was reviewed, and I was asked about two cats I had previously adopted in 2021 and 2024. I explained that one of the cats, Katie, whom I adopted at over 11 years of age, passed away shortly before Christmas. When asked the cause of death, I stated that I discovered she had passed when I went to feed her. The staff member responded by sharing that she adopted her own cat in a certain year and that her cat is still alive. I found this comment to be inappropriate and insensitive given the context. The tone and demeanor throughout this portion of the interaction felt dismissive and unprofessional. Additionally, I was questioned about a prior call allegedly made by a neighbor concerning a dog associated with a property before I resided there. The home had previously been vacant, and a stray dog had been roaming the block for months. Neighbors would feed the dog on the porch, and one neighbor mentioned contacting ACCT due to the dog's presence in the area. This matter occurred prior to my occupancy, yet it was presented in a manner that felt accusatory. Overall, I left the facility feeling discouraged and uncomfortable. I have a history of responsibly caring for animals, including taking in strays, building shelters for community cats, fostering animals, and advocating for their well-being. I would never harm an animal and was genuinely seeking to provide a loving My intention is not to create conflict, but to ensure that future prospective adopters are treated with professionalism, sensitivity, and respect.

I was only talking about the red head woman who checked me out who seemed patient and informative. The rest of staff was horrible and discriminatory. Please my review on their Yelp. No one has reviewed them in over a year so if they take it down this is what I posted today: "Denied adoption of a beautiful kitty on 12/6/24 simply because the kitty had Feline HIV. I believe her name was Snow and she was grey. The women who denied her adoption to me had a less feminine look and it felt as if she was trying to intimidate me or coerce me to violence even though I showed no aggression. The blond woman who was at front desk when you first walk in got up and walked away from the desk without saying a work to me during checkout. I feel she was very disrespectful yet I remained calm and cooperative. I would hate to feel as though I was discriminated against for my race for being more "aggressive" as I did not discriminate against the brunette woman who denied me my first pick kitten for her possible sexuality. Neither racial or sexual orientation discrimination is right yet I felt racial on my end with no disrespect to either women. The red head woman who had to finish my checkout was much kinder and made me feel better about adopting my second choice Shadow. Both the brunette and blonde seemed much nicer to the Caucasian couple that came in as I was leaving who there to pick up foster kittens. Everyone should be treated equally whether race, sexual orientation or disability. They also should not be denied an adoption due to feline hiv as it is very treatable. No matter who you are you should not support this behavior nor allow it to continue. Please report any notes of this even if you are on the fairer side of treatment. "

I was told they "don't recommend" adopting a cat to help with a mouse problem, and that they "can't help" me. That was it. I understand not all cats are mousers. That's not the point. The point is that I wanted to give a cat a better life, and PAWS didn't show an ounce of interest in that. For an organization that spays/neuters animals and puts them back on the street, you'd think they'd be eager to find permanent homes--especially for cats who might be a good fit for natural pest control. If you're looking to adopt with care and intention, I'd recommend finding a rescue that actually values people who want to help.

Submitted (electronic) application on October 9, application was approved October 14, kittens selected October 18. The application process was straightforward. It asks for personal references, probes for pet history, and has pointed questions to determine if you understand how to care for a cat. I got an email the next morning saying my application looked great and they would process it ASAP. It did take until Oct 14 to get confirmation that the application was approved, and I did have to follow up to get the confirmation. It seems as though the only contact there is Shauna, the owner/operator, and she is a busy lady. We visited the cat cafe on Oct 18 to meet the prospective kittens. The cafe has a nice, comfortable, very cat friendly area to mingle with the kitties. There are nests and beds all over that the cats are just chilling out in. All the cats were friendly and well socialized. They have the kittens in a separate room to keep them from getting bullied, and that is a comfy space for cats as well. There are plenty of hideouts for the kittens, as well as toys to play with them. The kittens were mostly happy to be cuddled and picked up, with a few exceptions for very shy or wary kittens. We met Shauna, who is very friendly and knowledgeable. After selecting the kittens we wanted to adopt, Shauna asked me to email her letting her know which ones we want. They don't do same-day adoptions. All the cats are fully vetted prior to adoption: vaccinated, spayed/neutered, flea and tick treated, microchipped, and tested negative for feline aids. Considering this is done by the rescue, the $150 adoption fee per cat (or buy-one-get-one!) is extremely reasonable. Due to my schedule I won't bring the fur babies home until early November, and Shauna was more than happy to let them stay at the cafe for a couple of extra weeks.

We made an appointment to go to the café, which was not necessarily productive for us. We were looking for two adult cats. When the café gets crowded, it's difficult to get a feel for the individual cats, let alone how they interact with each other. We ended up speaking to one of the team members who was able to access three pairs of bonded cats currently in their foster system. There are literally dozens and dozens of cats and kittens available beyond the ones who reside at the café at any given time. We were fortunate that Kathy, the owner, stopped by and overheard our conversation. She was able to reach out to three foster homes on our behalf and expedite visits. The two foster homes/families we visited were extraordinarily friendly, helpful, gracious, generous with their time, it was just a wonderful experience. We fell in love on our first visit and were able to adopt Dennis and Twiggy, both about a year old. Both had been in the system, pretty much their entire lives. Twiggy was shy and skittish, and only gradually came out of his shell. Thanks to bonding with Dennis, the tabby. When people wanted to adopt Dennis without his pal, the foster family held firm, ensuring the two would stay together For both of their well-being. That's the kind of care the people involved with Green Street take when it comes to their feline friends. They put the cats first. They lead with love. It has been a month as of today, and we are very much a happy family again, thanks to welcoming Dennis and Twiggy, and thanks to Morgan, their foster mom, and everyone working to distinguish Green Street.

I adopted my cat without her being spayed first and had to bring her back to the owner of Green Street, to get spayed after having her for a few months. Cats should never be adopted out without being spayed or neutered. The owner was also incredibly rude to me and refused to use the name I gave my cat and only referred to her by the name they gave her when she was rescued..which is just ridiculous and all her spay paperwork says the old name. My cat is not microchipped, a practice I don't believe Green Street does which adds on an additional thing for cat owners to worry about. It was also $125 to adopt my cat that was about a year old which is expensive considering she wasn't a kitten and also wasn't even microchipped and I had to go out of my way to bring her back and forth to get spayed! I'm so grateful for my cat but would not recommend adopting out of Green Street.
