    Broken bathroom door.

Rooms are in need of renovation. Beware - the marketing photos are very old. The room I was given had filthy stained carpet, dirty upholstered chairs, stained wallpaper, and old dingy desk and nightstand furniture. Billed as a five-star hotel, I received a 2-star room. Very disappointing. The walls are thin and thus rooms can be rather noisy. Note that the location is terrific, with easy access to museums and the tube. The staff is very nice. It's just the rooms...they are so dated and dirty that I cannot recommend this hotel.

This is a nice boutique hotel conveniently located next to the South Kensington Underground station. Despited being located on a busy street it clears out around 10pm so the street noise isn't bad at all. The rooms are small and older but nicely furnished and decorated. They have a nice setup for continental breakfast on the lower level. They have a menu you can order off of as well. They offer free wi-fi.

Lovely hotel, wonderful staff and a great location. Each room is decorated differently. Our room was gorgeous, with fabric wallpaper and coordinating decor. The staff was helpful and friendly with any needs. They also gave good restaurant recommendations. The location could not have been better. The South Kensington underground stop was directly across the street. Despite being on a busy street the rooms were quiet. The area also has plenty of good places to eat (as well as a huge variety.) The Natural History Museum is down the block and the V & A and Harrods are close as well. There were only a couple things that were negative. The first is that the elevator stopped working during our stay. When you are on the third floor with narrow London stairs this was not fun. The other was the bizarre decor of having a mirror for the back wall of the bathtub/shower. Unless you are designing a bathroom for a model or movie star this makes no sense. They charge for wifi but do have a laptop in one of the sitting rooms for guests to use.

After having lunch at the nearby Hoop & Toy (please reference my review if interested), my wife and…read moreI proceeded to the hotel to check into our room. We were greeted and assisted by an employee who observed us bringing multiple baggages up the entryway stairs. He wished us a Happy Anniversary, informed us that we were being upgraded to a suite on the fifth floor (room 503 yay yay!), shared the many amenities of the hotel, and handed us our keycards. Prior to our arrival in Kensington, we had been staying in smaller boutique hotels during our visits in Amsterdam and Paris. Therefore, the abundance of space in our suite almost made us feel like we were at home. Entering the room, we were greeted by a couch (with a TV mounted nearby) positioned in front of a sliding glass door that lead to a patio with two chairs and a table (not to mention a decent of the city). The kitchen area was complete with a microwave, utensils, plates, bowls, tea cups, coffee mugs, drinking glasses, and champagne flutes. On the counter was an expresso machine, expresso pods, a nifty device for boiling water, and a tasty assortment of chocolates with a message saying "Happy Anniversary!" Below the counter was not one, but two refrigerators (perfect for folks like us who like to purchase small grocery items - including champagne). The bedroom was a decent size with a mounted television (with the ability to access streaming services via Chromecast), snazzy Bluetooth speaker (I made good use of it!), a desk, and bed. I believe in saving the best for last...in my opinion...that would be the bathroom. The bathroom was complete with heated floors (unfortunately we did not get a chance to use them), a HUGE two person (depending on the size of said persons) sitting tub, and an open shower area with a shower head slightly extended from the ceiling (not ideal for folks that do not want to get their hair wet). Also, I forgot to mention that both the shower and hot tub have extensions. Since we were only at the hotel for three days and two nights, we did not have the time to utilize their many amenities. However, we were able to visit Apero, the bar located in the basement. We both ordered drinks from the cocktails menu, which we would later regret. Although flavorful, both drinks were loaded with so much ice that there was obviously little room for the drink itself. For both breakfast and dinner we enjoyed the convenience of room service. For breakfast we ordered the eggs, bacon, and wheat bread...which met our satisfaction's. For dinner we ordered the Chicken Ceasar salad with a side of fries with truffle mayonnaise...delicious! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Ampersand Hotel. If you're looking for a hotel in which you can truly relax and enjoy the comfort and serenity of your room, I highly recommend staying here!

Our family of four with kids ages 9 and 10 booked this specifically for the kids while we were in…read moreLondon, and it ended up being one of the more unique and memorable experiences of the trip. We were looking for something fun and different from a traditional afternoon tea, and this definitely leaned more interactive than expected. Arrival and First Impressions Reservations are important, and when we arrived the space was already filled with families. The setting feels polished but still very welcoming for kids, which is not always the case with afternoon tea in London. Service was excellent from the start, organized without feeling too formal, and the overall atmosphere had a fun, lively energy. The Highlights The experience is built around science themed trays filled with a mix of sweet and savory items. The kids immediately locked into the interactive elements, especially the build your own strawberry lemonade with different colored syrups, which turned into more of a mini experiment than just a drink. They also had cake pops, scones, and small PB and J sandwiches, all very approachable and fun. One of the better touches was a small take home item, a dinosaur themed tin, which the kids treated like a prize from the experience. It added to the overall feeling that this was designed with kids in mind. The adult trays had a similar variety with finger sandwiches, pastries, custards, and scones. Everything was solid and there was plenty to try. Being able to request more of anything you liked helped balance things out a bit and made it feel less restrictive for the price. The Challenges The biggest drawback is the cost. For a family of four it came out to around 350 USD, which is a significant spend for what is essentially afternoon tea. It leans more toward a themed experience than a traditional tea service, so if you are expecting something quiet and refined, this may not be the right fit. Final Thoughts This is one of those experiences that works really well if you go in with the right expectations. It is interactive, a little chaotic in a good way, and clearly designed for families more than traditional tea purists. We would not rush back and I removed a star due to the price, but we are glad we did it once because the kids genuinely loved it and still talk about it. If you are looking for something unique and are comfortable with the cost, it is worth it for the experience, though the value depends on how much you lean into the interactive side.

My two girlfriends and I rented a triple room and it was roomy enough for us, all of our luggage and towers of shopping bags. We were only given one key, and you have to be buzzed in for safety reasons after 10 or 11 pm, but that was fine for us. The staff was so accommodating. The bathroom had a towel warmer which came in handy- it is freezing in London right now. We had the perfect view of The Buttery's garden from our huge window. There is an adorable market just steps away- for provisions after hours. In the states we are used to hotel rooms having in room refrigerators- but the market made it easy to get cold drinks every night. 10/10

Ssshhhh! I honestly don't want to tell anyone about the Lime Tree Hotel - it's only 26 rooms and…read moreprobably the best kept secret in this very posh area of London!! But for you, Yelp, I'll spill the reasons why you should stay here on your next visit to London... 1) The Location is awesome. You know the three rules of real-estate, right??? location, Location, LOCATION! Lime Tree (hence-forth, LT) is located in a very posh area of London. I saw McLarens and Rolls-Royces parked ON THE STREET where the hotel is located. Who parks a USD$200K+ car ON THE STREET?!? It is short walk to the Victoria Coach Station(s), Trains and Underground (Tube). There are plenty of pubs, restaurants, grocery stores and shops around. Our room overlooked the Peggy Porschen Bakery, which I kid you not, is Instagramed during all hours by "influencers". I only hope they get as much busy as they get featured in pics on the Internet! Also, down the street is Philip Treacy, Milner to Royalty! Again, LOCATION! 2) I would be remiss if I did not mention The Service at LT. There is an eight-hour shift rotation of lovely front desk people that check you in, collect your key when you leave (yes, there is a physical key to your room door and they ask that you leave it at the front desk everytime you leave). I am goingto butcher their name spellings (probably), but during our 8 night stay here, we came to know Simone, Martine, Maggy and Laura very well and all were charming, helpful and total professionals. My mother has stayed here several times before and was hoping to speak to the owner, Matt and Charlotte, but they were off on holiday, but I hear they are as hard-working and amiable as the Wondrous Women of the Front Desk (henceforth known as WWFD) 3) The Buttery - the SMALL breakfast/lunch restaurant in the LT (but you can't charge your meals to your room in the LT). The Word is out on on this place - there were just as many Locals eating here as there were guests at the hotel. RESERVATIONS are HIGHLY recommended (they are on OpenTable). I wrote a seperate review on The Buttery, so do a Yelp search and find that, but you honestly can't go wrong here. We ate 4 of the 8 days. TomTom across the street is also a one-location (at this time) gem and is packed after 9am. Early bird gets the good breakfast! Much love to the Lime Tree! I'll be back someday
