This wee fancy dress shop at the top of Bangor's High Street has been a lifesaver for me recently…read more I know what you're thinking; what did you need that was so pressing from a fancy dress shop? Well, you'll be pleased to know that I wasn't desperately seeking a top gun pilot suit I was actually looking for Event party accessories and these guys came up trumps. After searching high and low for plain gift boxes for my mother dearest suggested that I contact Party Treasures, so that's just what we did. Initially they didn't have any in stock but they asked me the date of my event and promised that they would order them in for me. They even took our contact details and called when they arrived in store. You couldn't ask for better customer service. The shop itself is jam packed with party, fancy dress costumes and props. Although as I found out if they don't have it in stock just ask and they will try their best to source it for you. So next time you want to make an impression at a fancy dress party make sure you pop in here first, forget the internet, go to the experts, they won't steer you wrong.

You know the kind of thing: balloons, banners, candles, kids toys, cards and fancy dress items. With my hen do coming up I thought I'd have a quick look in at their supply of pink learner plates and willy straws. I wasn't disappointed nor was I amazed. They have a small section filled with the usual stuff. I didn't buy anything as I am waiting on feedback about a theme for the event! God help me! The shop itself feels like it hasn't been open long, everything looks sparse and the atmosphere is slightly depressing - I think they need to decorate the inside with sample balloons and turn on the radio. Once I was in I couldn't wait to get out again. They are in a good catchment area as there are no other specific party goods shops in the area so they should do well if this is a new shop - it lacks a happy atmosphere though.

Kids parties these days have become a serious business and for my younger son's third, yes, third…read morebirthday party, it seemed perfectly acceptable to spend £150 on hiring a fire engine for him and four friends. I know, crazy. I have since regained my senses but I must admit it was an total blast and the kids just loved very minute of it. The actual Northern Ireland Fire Brigade selfishly don't do kids' parties. Something to do with rescuing people from fires and car accidents. So if you want the fire engine experience, then go to Party Piglets and hire the next best thing - the Norn iron Fire Brigade. Hilarious. They own a couple of decommissioned fire engines which they hire out for parties. The £150 got us an hour and a half to drive about, party bags and a plastic fire man's hat for everyone. The driver even sounded the sirens a couple of times which sent the kids into excitement overdrive. The driver was great with kids and very friendly which made the experience even better. Party Piglets also have pink fire engines for hen parties etc, but that's a very different kind of party which I'll leave to someone else to review.

The fire engine was to arrive at 9pm we stood in the street for an hour waiting on it which was not only an hour late but with no apology and a HOT bottle of champagne it just got worse from there..the 'fireman' which definitely didnt look like the sexy muscly ones portrayed on their website appeared drunk or on drugs continued to slur and swing round the fire engine pole hitting everyone in sight with his arms and legs as it's very cramped inside the fire engine and stuffy the girls all left sweaty and feeling rather disappointed... We were told £200 for an hour on the fire engine ?? We got exactly 35 mins... What happens in the fire engine stays in the fire engine is their moto well I'm afraid not.. Save your money and get a taxi, it completely ruined my night!!!!
