The venue is stunning and it hardly needs any decorations to feel complete. The gorgeous brick wall and string lighting steal the show. It's a perfect open floor plan with space for over 200 guests. The kitchen is tucked away in the corner providing an industrial sink, microwave, ice maker, and fridge/freezer, making it easy to store and prepare food for your event. The bar also includes a beverage cooler, bar sink for washing glasses, and plenty of shelves for storing alcohol. The venue is always cleaned, bathrooms always fully stocked, and tables and chairs provided by Cynthia making the planning process such a breeze. Cynthia is a dream to work with. She is super communicative with times available for picking up and dropping off keys. She provided us with a detailed walk through of the venue before our event, letting us know how to turn on lights and ac/heater unit. She let us know where to find everything we would need. She was so generous with time to set up and break down for our event both times that we've rented with her and we couldn't be more appreciative and happy with our experience each time. I'll always recommend this venue to anyone looking.

I know it seems I've been hibernating. I think this has been the longest YELP dry spell for me…read moresince I began my YELP journey. I feel the start of a Comedy, 2 weddings and a graduation will be the title. Our latest adventure was a wedding for one of hunnie bunnie's co-workers. When I heard we would be going to the "Commander's House" on Rough and Ready Island in Stockton, I had a tough time finding any information. And what a shame that is. What a beautiful location, tucked away in the Port of Stockton. This was actually the Commanders home at one time. Story has it that the Navy sold the land to the Port of Stockton for $1.00. If that is true, what a bargain! And this was before our current economic problems. The house is located at the end of the Lyon's Golf Course, which we didn't have time to explore, but was beautiful. Although you can see all of the cranes from the Port in the background, you can maneuver yourself to avoid having them in your pictures. The event we attended was held mostly outdoors, but the house would have been beautiful, with a little work. (They need to put up some decorations, the walls were bare. And the bedroom upstairs that the bride and her entourage used didn't have a stick of furniture or even a mirror. I would have brought one from home, if I'd only known.) One of the local restaurants provided the catering (YELP review to follow) and DJ provided wonderful dance music as we danced under the stars. A few suggestions for future/prospective brides: 1/ Set up some nice chairs upstairs in your dressing room and some folding tables for your belongings. 2/ Ask if lights can be strung from the trees if your event is going to be held after dark. It's really hard to photograph in pitch black darkness. 3/ Decorate the stairwell, it's a majestic backdrop for any bride http://www.flickr.com/photos/12568072@N05/collections/72157619034039566/ PS. Here's the only place online that I found any information on the Commander's House. Not to mention, this is a pretty funky wedding website. The Khmu and Vietnamese New Years celebration are held here each year…read more The stage is not big enough for all the things we want to display and space for the performances, but the hall is pretty large. I also like how there's a kitchen and a whole other room. On the outside this place look abandoned but it's pretty clean on the inside. A customer of mine threw a big Christmas party here at the Stockton Ballroom. I sponsored part of…read morethe event and was able to mix and mingle with everyone. I didn't see anyone dressed like it was a gala event. By the name ballroom it conjures up images of gowns and tux's for me. This area is not the gala event type neighborhood. The entrance works really well for putting up check in tables on each side where everyone has room to get their name badges and then proceed in to the ballroom. Its really big in there. There was a ton of tables set up for everyone to eat or sit and talk amongst themselves. Around the room were the tables for sponsors to set up there goods and presentation materials. Also the give aways. This crowd loves a free little nick knack. A large stage is at the very end of the hall where the raffle items were set up and the company putting on the show was able to address the crowd. The food was shockingly good! Probably the main reason for my 4 stars. They cooked everything in house. I'm not sure if a restaurant came in and used the kitchen facility or if the Ballroom itself has a staff of chefs. Everything was served buffet style. I went with the Chicken that was in a light white sauce. I'm not sure what other meats were served. The veggies were perfect. Even my partner leaned over and said how much he loved the green beans. The night was very nice and they really knew how to throw a party. We had a great time and I believe everyone else did too.
