Help was offered and readily available but my free-wheeling kiddo got to "free paint" to his heart's content. It was a wood plank project in the shape of a tree with the phrase o' come let us adore him. Sheri the owner offered hot cocoa and wine. She led the instructions, gave stencils and all supplies, she also had already put the wood together and screwed it in. The second time I visited was a valentines theme. This one was a string art project. The board said love but the o in Love was actually a heart out of string art.. again Sheri was awesome and included all supplies and led each step of the way. Music plays everyone chats it is a very hipster vibe with colorful art all over the walls she has made.. it is all for sale on the walls as well. The most recent time I visited I had Sheri host my birthday party. I picked the art craft and went with the newly trendy "welcome sign" wood plank for the front porch. My friends fell in love with the little charismatic house and had the best girls night. This place is great and I always come out with the cutest crafts. It is reasonably priced and way more personal than the wine and canvas places.

When we arrived the instructor had set up everything for us and it was all ready to go. Our class was at Pivot Bar and Balcony at Hyatt Place (downtown ). As we painted we enjoyed some drinks. It was step-by-step class and was easy to follow. Instructor was so kind and helped us a lot too. Definitely a fun activity and I recommend it to everyone. Class lasted about 2.5 hours.

The Garfield Park Arts Center, like the park itself, falls under Indy Parks. Originally built in 1922 as the "Community House," it was designed to look like a picnic shelter with enclosed walls, high ceilings, and fireplaces at each end. In 1930, a large swimming pool was located in the area that is now the parking lot. At that time, it was primarily used as a locker room and rec center area. In 1990, the pool was removed and replaced by the Aquatic Center that is now located at the Burrello Family Center. In 2006, the "Community House" was remodeled with a $2.7 million grant. It became the Garfield Park Arts Center. The 8,000 square foot facility now houses a multi-use performing arts space, exhibition hall, visual and production arts classrooms, a recording studio, a literary arts library, and a rehearsal room. The GPAC is big enough that it typically has multiple exhibits going. For example, right now there's a modern quilting show, a solo show by Jay Hamm, and a show by Christy Harp. GPAC hosts a variety of workshops and classes including current activities like voice and piano lessons, ceramics, and quite a few visual arts options including those specifically for children. The classes are way affordable - for example, there's a $10 rock painting class for kids. As someone who has a pet rock, I'm all for rock painting. GPAC also hosts summer camps and special events. The calendar is on their website. I'm particularly enchanted by a classic movie night. They've also assisted with some of the public art in Garfield Park. The art center tends to be open limited hours - for example, 1-5pm during the week. It does participate in First Fridays. I'm a big fan of Garfield Park and I'm a big fan of having access to the arts. I find this facility to be quite accessible and even more after their 2006 renovation. It's not perfect (no building of this age is), however, it's quite good. Prices are affordable and the center itself has a nice combination of nostalgia with contemporary comforts. Especially for those with kids who may enjoy the classes, GPAC is a definite winner.

The space itself is very cool and easy to get to, although you do have to deal with downtown parking. Our instructor was so sweet and had a great playlist for us to listen to as we created our beautiful abstract pieces. I was able to bring drinks and snacks and overall just had a great relaxing and fun evening with my friends doing some thing unique. I will never attend another standard paint night again, and I would recommend the space for all sorts of events. The vibe and the purpose for the space is so cool, specifically designed to hold space for black and international artists, and you are definitely treated like family by everyone there.

Affordable if you aren't looking for much and don't mind saying no all the time to the extras and push to be on the dance teams to meet "goals" and "potential" as they say a lot. Teachers are all over the place... very few Ok core faculty then it's random college students and people who dance on the side sold as "experts" from NY to LA...but almost everyone is local from Indy area....which I guess is technically between NY and LA lol.

Some of my grandkids have gone here for years and I've always…read morebeen less than impressed with the skill level of dancers, but figured it's fun and good for their development. After this recent recital and speaking to some teachers and the owner backstage, I feel I have finally had enough and want to give my 2 cents. Especially in the context of finding out what is being paid to this studio for a sub par product. Daughter is essentially paying a second mortgage with all direct and indirect costs considered and still asked to volunteer time for the studio. The owner and a younger instructor told me at the recital that my granddaughter has a "future in dance" and can go "pro". Turn around and they are giving another eager parent the SAME spiel. They constantly talk with hopeful parents and impressionable children about being pro, getting to the next "level"/competition team, and their need for more and more classes to make these levels or not let their skills "deteriorate". These are all seemingly tactics to make more money because they want you to take dance year round and more of it to get to these levels and teams. You absolutely will make the team if you are old enough and you follow their prescription of more classes for long enough-I saw it first hand with one of mine. It's more pay-to-play than skill and the end product shows this. The competitions also feel very pay-to-play in recent years, compared to when my daughter did them, with all the participation awards given to nearly every dancer-but that is not wishes run, just vehemently encouraged by them. The steady stream of confusing awards keeps customers coming back and keep girls on their competition teams. The grand kids are there 5-6 days a week most weeks and are exhausted all for a sub par product. They are not involved in extra curricular activities at school or really anything else because they've been convinced by teachers it would detract from dance. The families are also asked to volunteer like it's a school field trip or charity event. Some parents even work at the studio part time for "discounts" per my daughter and they also have the older girls teaching the younger ones their recital dances and I see them assisting on stage. Im told by my girls they aren't compensated or rewarded in any way-it's just an expectation. It's a pyramid scheme that rewards you for loyalty (also see: trophy where they engrave your name after 5,10, etc years of dance). I am supportive of their dance and have always supported my daughters and their children, but I also have a unique perspective of having simultaneous experience with a few studios in the area and Indy. Trust me, there are better studios with less staff turnover that produce more skilled dancers without the significant cost and time demanded by Wishes. P.S. My wife said something I thought was a great metaphor-it feels like those model scouts in the mall back in the 90s where they convinced a kid they had a modeling career waiting, but only if you took their internal modeling classes and paid for headshots through them.

Our foodie group went to Mud Creek Players one Saturday afternoon after brunch to see the play "I…read morelove you, you're perfect . . .now change." This was my first time coming here to see a play, so I was looking forward to the performance. It has been a long time since I have seen a play at a local community theater, so this was a treat for me. The play did not disappoint me at all. The actors did a wonderful job with the performance. The play is based on a Broadway musical, and it had a little bit of everything from singing to acting with different skits throughout the play. I was laughing and even crying a little bit throughout the play. Mud Creek Players is a great venue in Indianapolis that offers community theater plays and sketches for entertainment. The interior is definitely like an old style stage and theater with a concession stand in the front. All proceeds from the concession stand sales go towards a foundation for the theater. It is a very nice venue and the staff are wonderful and friendly. The play was excellent and entertaining like I said earlier, and it was worth the ticket price of $20. I'm glad I was able to see a play here at Mud Creek Players, and will definitely come back here again to see a play because it was great entertainment for a Saturday afternoon. So glad Indy has culture available to us!

The audience was seated either at tables or were free to sit on the grass. Several groups brought blankets to spread out with some bringing food to eat while they watched the performance. It was a great low key performance. Although tickets were free they did need to be reserved in advance. And donations are accepted which I didn't realize until a friend noticed a small sign and basket on the way out. So if you go and enjoy the performance I'm sure donations are most welcome.
