I love this place! My fiancé and I went for our anniversary last year and we had a blast! He was the only guy in the class but it didn't matter. We decided to go to the pick your own board class so that way we didn't have two of the same boards in our house. I loved that they have that as an option because I avoid some activities that would send us home with duplicate pieces. Now it is a little expensive, $65 a person, considering it doesn't come with any drinks, other than soda and water, or snacks. Now I know this isn't wine and canvas but it would be nice to have that. I wish it wasn't so expensive but you do get a nicer sometimes large wooden piece. I love mine and get compliments on it all the time. The instructors made it very easy to do what I wanted, which I loved that! They really helped you create the perfect piece to go home with! read more

You create your sign from scratch - unstained/unsanded wood is given and you can detail it however you want. There are plenty of finished products hung in the space to inspire you. Then you'll stain and paint over the pre-cut stencil picked out when you book a spot. While it dries, you can hang out with your friends and socialize. You'll finish the night by peeling off the stencil and taking your new decor home! read more

My daughter and I made signs at Carmel Board & Brush tonight. She made a present for one of her siblings, and I made a sign for our house. The teachers were incredibly helpful and kind, and we had a really nice time making a memory and something to take home. The teachers made is so easy, and the studio itself was very spacious and clean. There were lots of examples of signs for us to look at to choose colors, and that makes you want to want to go back and make more things! The other people at our table were lovely, and their signs turned out beautifully too. One lady made a sign with a personalized quote that she had emailed to the store earlier in the week, and the other used a really unique combination of colors that looked fantastic. It just opened up my mind to many more ideas of projects I'd like to complete. I was surprised to see the variety of colors, stains, and combinations to make. I ended up choosing a different color than I had planned once I saw all of the choices, and the teachers helped me get everything just right. We both had a good time and ended up taking home signs that we like. This place would be a fun date, family outing, party, team building event, or night out with a friend. I would even feel comfortable going by myself because everyone was so wonderfugly kind and helpful. I hope to make another project soon! read more

My small posse of girlfriends is addicted. This Sunday we return for the fifth visit to this make-it-and-take-it venue housed in a quirky old building that used to be a bank. The atmosphere is festive with fun music playing in the background and happy chatter from table to table. Bottled water and canned sodas are available for free. Beer and wine are served for a small charge, making things even... festiver. The staff is very helpful and concerned that you leave with a piece of art that you're happy with. They have a wide selection of stains and paints and let you "do your own thing" but can also step in to help you achieve a certain look, if you want the assistance. And if you've made a mistake, they have a dozen ways to help you fix it. Multiple examples of each (of over 100) sign styles are hung on the walls, found on their website, or on their Facebook page for those who need ideas and inspiration. There are techniques to achieving certain finishes... but all in all, the process is very simple. No one should be intimidated. Pretty much anyone can make a sign they'd be proud of. Board and Brush gets my vote for: - Best date night value - Best GNO venue - Best idea for a bachelorette party But, I guess the most credible compliment is what I told you up front... we're returning for our FIFTH visit this weekend. Such a great place to "wine" down with friends any day of the week! I have been here several times and will continue to come back. The staff are extremely helpful, make it fun, and are so creative! Parking is great here. The Westfield-Carmel location is in a little plaza area with a nice big parking lot right in front. Board and Brush is an awesome, DIY outing that I highly recommend. I have been here twice and loved both experiences (and already signed up for a 3rd event!) I like the whole concept of board and brush that you get to make something customized for your home and whatever suites your style. You can find the various design options on the website and calendar for classes that are offered. Most classes have around 20 people creating their signs. There is a class instructor that guides everyone through the steps and also assistants at each table to help smaller groups. Even though everyone could be creating a different sign, most steps are the same. You get to sand, distress, and stain the wood. You can also choose various paint options to use on top of or in place of wood stain. There are various examples throughout the studio to see how the stain looks on wood and to see paint options for your stencil. I have loved how both my projects turned out. Even if you mess up / go outside the lines for the stencil (my biggest mistake) they can help find ways to fix it and still make a great finished project. Another bonus: they have beer, wine, and soft drinks available. The first time I went wine and beer were included in the price. The last time I went 1 glass of wine or 1 can of beer were included and the rest could be purchased. Although there is a charge for additional drinks, the beer is only $1 and wine was $2. Board and Brush is the ultimate DIY workshop and the best part is they have all the tools and they clean up the mess. They have two large areas to work on your chosen project with large tables. I love that when you sign up they ask who you want to sit with so then as your friends sign up you will be at the same table. I have down two classes and had a blast both times. The first time I went alone, but it was fun getting to know people at my table while we all worked on our wood project. The second time I went with a group of friends and had an even better time. Board and Brush has so many projects to pick from on the website. It took forever to decide what to make. I will definitely being going back to do more as I have several favorites still yet to make. They have everything you need and help you every step of the way. I liked the hands on of this class as you actually get to nail your boards together and even put the hanger on! First you stain your wood, then you tape your wording, and paint over it with your choice of colors. I liked looking at all the projects in the building to help with my color choices. They have a board to see the different shades and the paint swabs with it. It really helps you see how your project will look. The class always has a teacher and then helpers who go around and help and they have been fabulous both times! I love they help. I love both my projects and can't wait to go back! read more

I attended a Board and Brush workshop with two girlfriends in December of 2019. We all wanted to create a holiday piece, and each of us picked a different project. All three pieces turned out exactly as expected. We were able to chat while we stained, distressed, and painted our wood signs. The staff was accommodating with the projects. Board and Brush is a neat concept--personalize a decorative wooden sign from start to finish. You sand the wood, distress it, stain it, and paint it. There are tons of designs you choose from online in advance. They have your wood and stencil ready when you arrive and you do the rest. There is an instructor who leads the 3 hour session, guiding the group through the steps, and one helper per table. They assist you with colors, assembling your sign, and adding the hardware. There are some drinks available but I'm not sure how the pricing works now. No one told us on my most recent visit. I've been twice. One experience went smoother than the other. The pace of your class will depend on your assistant. We all needed individual help last time and our assistant was a bit overwhelmed I think. Then there were a few other mishaps. My friend's name was spelled wrong on her stencil. This wasn't a problem, they got it reprinted quickly. Then later, unfortunately after sanding and staining her wood, she realized it wasn't big enough for her stencil. The staff addressed the situation and prepped a sign that was the right size and same color for her. Another friend didn't get told you have to remove the stencil before the paint dries, and a lot of the paint came up with it. The staff helped recover what had been stripped by hand painting it for her. I also got a splinter from sanding the wood and they were out of bandaids. Despite all of these mishaps, the staff were kind to us and helped turn things around. They even let us stay longer than class lasted to let us get our signs how we wanted. We had fun, but the day wasn't without its challenges. Just a head's up, they don't have their own parking lot. You'll have to park in the neighborhood and walk. They have one small restroom in the building. A lot of the class space is upstairs. And you go up stairs to enter the building. I'm not sure if they have accessible alternatives. read more
