If you like art, crafting, supporting local artists or feeling inspired in general, you will love this place! Located in the Garfield Park neighborhood right next to the Tube Factory Art Space in the newly opened Contemporary Art Museum of Indianapolis (CAMi). This whole little area feels like being on a small campus for artists. I started at Normal Coffee in the Tube Factory and it was the best way to get the day started! I ordered one of their cheese toasties (sweet & savory and delicious!) and a flat white (made perfectly by a super kind and warm staff member). She brought everything out and then we made our way to the art cafe. The space that the art cafe is in is adorable! Bright and colorful with fun designs and the absolute kindest owner, Fran! There is a menu to look at where you can choose what type of art project you'd like to do. Fran mentioned that they had one paper mache moon left from the last menu and it's what I picked! Then I was given paint, the coolest brush cleaner and water dispenser, and later glue and glitter and gems for bedazzling! I could've also done a collage style piece but bedazzling was more of what I wanted. My friend decorated a flower vase and we both had the best time! We were there for about an hour and a half. Truly such a fun way to spend an afternoon! When we finished we meandered around all of the art galleries (which are totally free to browse btw). This would be the perfect spot for a friend catch up, date, or solo activity! In a separate room, Line and Form has another space for children's art classes as well! Can't wait to go back soon. It was the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon together. Upon arriving (to the super cute and cozy space) we selected items to paint and decorate- a cardboard car and magic wand were our selections- along with glitter galore. I forgot how fun glitter can be (especially when you're playing with it outside of your own home ). Note that there is a studio fee for everyone. They offer a variety of mediums and projects to meet various ages and interests where they are. I know they also change up the "menu" from time to time to keep things fresh. We had a delightful hour together and explored the CAMI exhibit after. Highly recommend for kiddos, dates, or an afternoon with friends.

I had never been to the Stutz building downtown, so this was a first for me, and was very impressed with the architecture of the building, and the shops on the first floor. The artspace gallery on the third floor is very interesting with quite a few art studios and displays of their work in front of the art studios. There is quite a selection of wonderful artwork, and every first Friday of each month, the art studios have a showcase to the public of all of their artwork and the artwork is for sale. We went to one of the art studios for Anna Akifer. She was kind enough to host our event for Indy Wine, and was very gracious to show us her artwork and explain how she got interested in water colors and drawings. She demonstrated one of her watercolor artwork to us, and explained her thought process when painting stroke by stroke. We all browsed Anna's studio and the artwork that was for sale. I did purchase one of her prints which was a watercolor painting of flowers that was beautiful. Stutz Artspace Gallery is a beautiful venue with exquisite displays of artwork, and I'm glad we have some culture in downtown Indy that we can appreciate on a regular basis. I cannot wait to come back the first Friday of the month for the art gallery showcase. It will be worth seeing.

The art booths and staff were so welcoming and friendly tonight. I found some great buys from a number of local artists. Stepping into Daniel's taping room, you might think you're on a major studio soundstage in Hollywood. The technology it takes to film your own audition blows my mind, but Daniel has consistently made it easy, taking care of all the behind-the-camera wizardry so I could relax and focus on giving the best performance I could. As a Heyman Talent actor, I am allowed to audition for any Heyman-sponsored project at no cost. Non-Heyman projects require an appointment and an added fee, but Daniel works hard to accommodate on a timely schedule, and the fee is modest when compared with the results. Thank you, Zaahi Studios! Hosting fabulous exhibits featuring works by Mab herself and Indianapolis artist Justin Cooper, Monster has drawn quite the crowd on a number of 'First Friday' events, my favorites so far being Mab's Pretending to Be Human exhibit over Halloween 2013. The exterior boasts a neon MONSTER sign and a grand door to entice all passersby. Details abound the interior as well, with swoon worthly rest rooms full of character - feauting the likes of Johhny Cash, complete with black toilet paper. Beverages and sweet treats are always on hand to welcome guests and cater to children (both literally and at heart) in attendance. Make a point to stop by and take in the fabulousness that is one of the best examples of the flourishing Fountain Square art scene. Pick up some exclusive original art or perhaps a button, card or print, but you're guaranteed to leave with a smile!

Monster Gallery is the brainchild of the talented husband-wife duo, Mab Graves and Larry Endicott…read more While the majority of First Friday galleries are clustered right downtown, this beautiful brick building on the corner of English and State requires you to go off the beaten path a little. But, it is well-worth the trip. Despite the fact that fire destroyed the entire interior of the building, the exterior shell was all intact. Mab and Larry (with the help of some local friends) have restored this once decrepit tavern into a unique art showing space on the first floor and whimsical living quarters above. The gallery space is small to begin with, but it gets even tighter when the many fans of the artists come out to view their works. You can tell a place (and an artist) is popular by the line extending out of the front door and along the side walk. We didn't wait too long to get in though, so no worries there. The line from the door flows around the room clockwise and takes you past a couple walls of art and ends with a small counter for purchasing prints, gifts, trinkets, and of course any of the pieces you see on the walls. My only qualm with this layout is that the bar area is tucked in the way back and breaks up the flow of the gallery walls. You may have to squeeze past the throngs of art lovers to get to it. Monster Gallery serves beer and wine to the adult guests and there is often candy and treats for any little, aspiring artists who visit. Mab and Larry are both perfect hosts and will gladly have a chat with you about art, love, life, and the likes. There's a very large FREE parking lot just behind the building and there's always an open space.

Perhaps when I left my job in Anderson I forgot to review this gem in the process. I have only been here on two types of circumstances. One was an exhibit regarding the White River that the owner invited me to. The other type was for painting classes, of which I went there plenty of times. They did it specially for my work and I would say I went there four or five times for that. At least. Like a drink and draw, but without the alcohol. The instructor they had teaching - a school art teacher - was frazzled the first time my work went as we didn't exactly stick to the game plan, but all sort of drew derivations of what she had planned. However, as she got to know us and understood us, she warmed up. She also ensured that the variety of paintings she taught us were exactly that: a variety. Many different types of styles including some whimsical and kid like ones. Everything from birch trees, to summer fields of flowers, to concentric circles, to whimsical owls and birds. Eliot who owns the place is a pretty rad guy as well. Always good to talk music too (though it did get me into trouble with my work via a coworker). But hey if I finally find someone who knows who actually knows who all is referenced in the song Emmylou, who the Decemberists are, and has also seen Bob Dylan and the like in concert? I am going to talk to them, because they are a rare breed. So while you're there look out for the framed concert posters.
