I love The Outsiders (novel and movie) but I have to say I was not too excited about going. I just thought it would be something mildly cool to do on a weekend when some friends suggested we visit The Outsiders House. OMG! Whether you're a child of the 80s, or a child who read The Outsiders in MS English recently, go!!!! Go as soon as you are able. Go! The volunteer docents are great and so excited to share their expertise. There's just so much in this little house (but it's not jam packed like some private museums). Joe Cervantez, an extra on the film and unofficial photographer behind the scenes, is there most weekends to share his first-hand knowledge. He also has photos for sale. If you are so inclined, you can recreate the chocolate cake/Budweiser scene, too. So thankful that Danny Boy O'Connor saved this relic and built this museum to recreate not only a vital memory from most everyone's childhoods but also to keep Tulsa history alive.

My goddaughter recently read the book in junior high and loved so I swung by the museum store to look for a gift and was able to find her a Stay Gold Tshirt and some stickers but decided against popping into the museum. My bookclub recently finished Rumblefish and decided to come and visit the museum and we were so glad we did. I admit my expectations were low. It's $10 per person. I was a bit worried being an older house, it wouldn't have a/c but I learned that the house had been renovated and restored and so it was nice and cool inside. I loved the 80s memorabilia, the knowledgeable docents and even an extra from the film. It was nice to learn more about S E Hinton as well. It is definitely worth a visit.

It is small but worth the stop if you're a fan of the movie. We got some cute tshirts in their shop in the back. The house is the same. I liked how they named the street the outsiders. It felt like we were int the movie when my son and I visited.

Love it

Since I was here 3 years ago, a lot of good changes have happened and I am glad I am here again to see in person. Both my Uber drivers knew all about the house and it's history and they themselves have been here. I look forward to coming back this weekend to see the inside of the home. I have been waiting a long time for this! Thank you for putting this all together and for your hard work in restoring the house.

Wonderful Historical Site! $10 per person- somewhat of a guided tour- great gift shop won't one of memorabilia. Amazing. They spend a lot of time and effort bringing the book and movie back to life. We enjoyed it! Thank you to the amazing guides who gave us all the tea on the in and outs of the movie and stars.

Visiting Tulsa and looking for things to do? Put this on your list! So...what is this place? It was used as the Curtis Brothers' home in the movie "The Outsiders". It is a movie set and museum all rolled up in one. There are lots of pics and original props throughout the home and/or items similar to the ones used. You can sit down on the floor with a cake & beer like Two-Bit did, or sit at the desk as Ponyboy did for fun or a great pic. Sure, this is just a movie set house and not based on a true story, but a good part of us can relate to someone in the book, the movie, and/or the messages we got from the story in general. When you tour the home...you can almost be transported to another era, another time, and really relate to the characters in the story. How was this possible? A longtime fan of the novel and movie is Hip Hop artist Danny Boy O'Connor. He visited the home on a tour and just couldn't shake how the home should be preserved. In 2016, he bought the home and the work began. They are still working on it, but it's been open to the public for a few years. I am impressed with the preservation of this home...they really did a good job. It is such a great story and this is a wonderful place to preserve the story forever. I would suggest watching the movie before you go or watch it again to refresh your memory. Some of the workers at the museum were extras in the movie and it's fun to hear their stories. Please be advised they are only open Friday-Sunday from 11am - 4pm...so plan accordingly. There is a small parking lot in the back and a few parking spaces along the street. Please keep in mind this is in a neighborhood, so please respect private property and keep the noise level down. There is a cool gift shop with restrooms as well. If you're a fan of the book or movie, it's worth a stop! Just go...do it for Johnny! Stay Gold!

The house from the street- parking is on the street around the house.

I have been teaching SE Hinton's "The Outsiders" for the better part of a decade to my 7th grade language arts students. We have a huge community event when we finish the book- a drive-in movie experience complete with candies and snacks from the 1960s. Visiting the renovated movie house and nearby movie locations within a few blocks and Sperry, OK a few miles away was such a cool experience. I highly recommend it to anyone who's read the novel, watched the film, or is just discovering the story thanks to Broadway's newest musical. Everyone at the museum (including Joe Cervantes- who was an extra in the film and shares his experience and original photos), in the gift shop, and in neighboring locations were so knowledgeable, so kind, and generous with their time and their experiences. I won't lie- the area definitely looks like the Curtis boys grew up on the "wrong side of the tracks" when you are driving in, but it is safe and so worth the trip! The Rexall Shop and DX Station in Sperry are a must to head to after the house- the Rexall is soon to be opened (hoping for early 2025 if not sooner) as a coffee house, cafe, and soda fountain featuring the era and the film. The new owner was there when we passed through and she welcomed us in to show us spots where scenes were filmed, both inside and out. A sweet passerby stopped to take our picture at the DX Station. It was a great day in Tulsa!

I was not one of the 70% of school kids assigned The Outsiders to read. I have seen the movie, however, this is a fun place to visit whether you are a diehard fan of the book or not. You get to walk through the house and see clothes that the actors wore in the movie. Be sure to have your picture taken on the couch and check this museum off of your Tulsa bucket list.

This is a classic movie from 1983 and I was so surprised to find that there is a museum here featuring a ton of memorabilia. The movie starring several stars such as Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, Patrick Swayze (RIP), Ralph Macchio, C. Thomas Howell, and Diane Lane. All of these actors were so young and just beginning their careers when this movie was filmed. The movie is based on the 1967 book by S.E. Hinton. Easy to find and a mere $10 to enter and tour. I went with my sister-in-law as she is a huge fan of the movie and we both wanted to check it out. The house was built in 1920 and until this movie was just a house. The nearby Crutchfield Park was also used for the big fight scene. The house was purchased by musician Danny O'Connor in 2015 who was a huge collector of the movie memorabilia and after purchase the museum was created and opened in 8/2019. Upon entering, the house is set up just like it was for the movie and features pictures, scripts, costumes and lots of interesting information. After exiting the museum, there is a fun gift shop with souvenirs to purchase. There is also a large tour bus which provides tours of the surrounding neighborhood and highlights. It wasn't running while I was there due to Covid19. Masks are currently required for entry and of course keep your distance from others. If you are ever in Tulsa and are a fan of this movie I ask you to stop and take the tour. Remember to "Stay Gold Ponyboy Stay Gold"

I took some pictures to prove how awesome our visit was. I'm glad to have run upon here in Tulsa on our "field trip day." If you are a fan of the book, movie, nostalgia, and that golden era of Tulsa... this is your place. A large part of this has left its mark in my childhood. My daughter and I both got to read the book in our high school Freshmen years (totally apart). I don't think the book is any longer offered as curriculum reads. Other than that, I can focus on the golden feels of traveling those roads back to Tulsa. The history of Tulsa itself holds its hidden magic beyond the brick and mortar stores, beyond the chain steakhouses, and beyond the chain coffee shops. Stop and look at some of the things that once were great. I make visits to the old nostalgic places. The stories these places tell.. are within the old drive in movie theaters, the art museums, and local ran establishments. There is just something about this nostalgic part of Tulsa that paints the history for you. Some people feel it. Some people don't. Its a piece of the 80s, and still those days to me were GOLD. Stay Gold Tulsa!!

We took a girl's trip to Tulsa and were looking for some fun activities to do while we were there. This museum is located in the house were they filmed the movie The Outsiders. There are photo ops, decor from the movie, pics from the filming, and memorabilia. The employees are very knowledgeable about the film, and they gave us several little known facts, including a couple of bloopers which we had never noticed before. There is also a gift shop attached for those interested in souvenirs. This was a fun stop on our girls trip, and something out of the ordinary for us to do. We all enjoyed it! I didn't post too many pictures because part of the experience is to see those things for yourself!

"Stay Gold" Right before he dies in the hospital, Johnny says "Stay gold, Ponyboy." Ponyboy cannot figure out what Johnny means until he reads the note Johnny left. Johnny writes that "stay gold" is a reference to the Robert Frost poem Ponyboy shared when they were hiding at the church. I remember this story from my 5th grade class in my elementary school in Honolulu. My homeroom teacher read a chapter to the class everyday until we finished the whole book. I felt nostalgic when we saw the house where the Curtis Brothers lived. The museum is fairly new. It hasn't been open long, official opening date was August, 9, 2019. When we arrived in Tulsa we found that the museum is an actual house - not a movie set - located in a residential neighborhood but bummed that it was closed at the time. There was a sign mounted on the gated fence and it said that guests can go inside as far as the porch... enjoy, take photos, reminisce what you remember about S.E. Hinton's "The Outsiders." Be respectable. For Fans, if you're lucky enough to get tickets you will enjoy a guided bus tour that visits various filming locations from The Outsiders. Tickets include the bus tour and museum and cannot be purchased separately. Now I have to watch the movie again... who was your favorite character in the book? Review #1943

Relive your favorite book from childhood at the wonderfully curated museum in the house that was in the movie The Outsiders. We came not expecting to stay very long and we're there almost an hour! We spoke to four people who acted in the movie and we were able to even take a picture recreating one of the scenes! When were getting ready to leave they told us, "there's only one thing left to say...STAY GOLD!" Wonderful experience and a must do when in Tulsa! The gift shop has a great selection of merchandise as well.

For example, they have enough Thomas Moran paintings and drawings to fill its own gallery. In the meantime, visitors must make do with some galleries that are incredibly dark and an antiquated personal photography policy that, while allowing camera use, still puts much off limits. Luckily, the museum has a good online collection that, once you create a user account, permits you to easily download images for personal use.
