The USA BMX National Headquarters opened in February 2022 in the Greenwood District. I toured it when it was still a construction site and finally made it back to tour the finished facilities. It is absolutely breathtaking, even for someone like me who knows absolutely nothing about biking or BMX (which I learned stands for bicycle motocross).
The facility includes the new 25,000-square-foot headquarters building and USA BMX Hall of Fame, standing next door to the Hardesty National BMX Stadium-an outdoor free-span arena with seating for 2,000 that hosts weekly racing, practices, coaching clinics, elite training camps and many World Cup events-just north of downtown. It's the largest covered track in North America!
The BMX Foundation offers programming that combines science, technology, engineering and math using cycling to instill life skills such as teamwork, exploration, mobility, discovery, and physical fitness. They have summer camps as well as some year round programming mostly for 4-8th graders. Scholarships are available for families unable to pay for the camp costs. The curriculum they use includes a STEAM kit and it's available for purchase for teachers or schools interested in it.
For older students and young adults, they have Project Bike Tech, which introduces them to career opportunities in the bicycle industry and other mechanical/technical careers.
The BMX hall of fame and museum holds five decades of bicycle evolution. The collection includes winning bikes, historical souvenirs, and jerseys of famous riders and racers. read more
