I've been to this theatre a few times now. I think it's one of the best theatres in London for viewing the stage. Every one of the 312 seats would give you a clear view of the stage, as they are banked steeply. When the St James Theatre opened in 2012, it was said to be the first newly built theatre complex to be built in central London in 30 years. The theatre was built on the site of the former Westminster Theatre, which was demolished after fire damage in 2002. It was designed by Foster Wilson Architects who also worked on the Trafalgar Studios, and the Tricycle cinema in Kilburn. The downside of the design is that the backs of the seats in front are backed up to the aisle of the seats behind. This means that the seat pitch is slightly restricted. I'm short so this is not a problem for me, but it could be a problem for taller theatre goes. The foyer has a nice bar and plenty of seating, but cane be very crowded too.. It is very light and is on street level, as is the entrance to the theatre auditorium. There is only one entrance to the auditorium from the foyer. This is not a problem though as there are only 312 seats. There are several emergency exits though. The complex also houses a 120 capacity studio theatre, although I have yet to go there. St James Theatre is a welcome addition to the West End scene.

A speak easy type atmosphere in Chelsea on Sloane Ave. There is a door to knock on and slit that…read moreopens in the door. Fortunately I didn't have to say a password because I had no idea what it may have been. Inside is smallish and colourful. There is a quite small outside portion which looked nice and a decent bar and inside portion. Drinks were typical London pricing and the crowd was a bit older (35+) for the most part. Great spot for a quick drink or more and suitable for a local hangout.

I've been walking up and down Sloane Street looking for a black door, I mean I know it's a speakeasy but, good lord! I can't see anything that could even be... oh wait.. Chelsea Cloisters? Wasn't that in the address? Is this? Umm, serviced apartments? Maybe I'll just ask in here... why don't people ever just ask? Bah... I don't want to ask, that's lame. Once you're inside this little cave coveting all things Americana, you'll be spoiled with samples of house bottled sloe gin, black jack gin, mulled wine and the friendliest bar staff this side of London. It's nice to know that once the viewing door slides closed and you're allowed in, all pretension is left behind. You can simply sit back and enjoy what you came for -- fabulous cocktails from fabulous people. Get there quick, this place won't be hidden for long!
