Oh, if only Chris had been around in the late 1990's when I needed him!! I was forced to rehab my badly navicular Appaloosa or put him down at age 23. Out of desperation, I dove head first into the world of barefoot. No one like Chris was around at that time! Luckily the Universe supplied information when I needed it, and after pulling Sunny's shoes and trimming the best I knew how, a Swiss vet (trained directly by Dr. Hiltrud Strasser, the vet on the forefront of the barefoot movement) who lived in Malibu agreed to travel to my home in Riverside to further train my friend and I. It saved my horse's life, and after 3 months of care, I was back on him and we rode trails until he died at 29 years old. I am a BELIEVER in barefoot! And I am a huge fan of Chris, the Other Hoof Guy. He not only knows anatomy, he is very well trained in horse nutrition, and has such a calm and reassuring energy. I regret the 15 years I unknowingly ABUSED my beloved horse by listening to "experts" who said he needed corrective shoes for his navicular. Don't do what I did! Don't trust anyone who says that piercing the hoof in order to nail a stiff and heavy metal shoe is necessary! The hoof capsule is amazingly flexible and light. To limit the movement is to restrict circulation which is a very slippery downhill slope. Circulation is key. When you really think about it, this is so wrong in so many ways. Even if you study the history of shoeing horses, you will find it started as a fad. Royals kept their free roaming horses sequestered into small spaces for convenience (sound familiar?) and their hooves started falling apart. Instead of learning from Nature and restoring them to free activity, they invented the horseshoe. Humans are so stupid sometimes. And I'm at the top of the list! I paid premium prices for the best vets and farriers to abuse my horse based on their very limited knowledge they learned from textbooks. When I returned my horse to his natural state, and learned to trust Nature, he responded in the best way. If you really love your horse, pull the damn shoes. Call Chris. He's the best around, and he will work with you and your vet to get your horse as sound as possible in a short amount of time. There may be a short period of soreness, but it is a small price to pay for a lifetime of soundness. If you are being told that your horse's case is hopeless, you can either choose sanity or insanity. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing you've always done and expecting a different result. Do yourself, your horse, your wallet, and the whole world a favor by rejecting the truly insane notion that your horse needs shoes when Nature shows us exactly what your horse really needs. If I could give more stars I would! Chris is truly an amazing Hoof Care Practitioner! His passion and knowledge easily surpasses any other barefoot trimmer or farrier I have ever met. He took my best friend- a 12 year old Spotted Saddle horse from cleated shoes to barefoot last February when he came in from Tennessee. Chris' patience with Bo was incredible as he was very unruly, it took hours and Chris never once laid a hand on him as I have seen almost all farriers do. After that day I was out on trail barefoot a week and a half later. Never any issues, Bo's feet have become like rocks- so hard and strong, they have widened, his balance, his gait and his sure footedness is unlike any other horse I have ever ridden. Even his stamina is better. I love my horse Bo, he is my best friend and I am SO GRATEFUL we found Chris! He gives advice and we always follow it diligently as I trust his knowledge and expertise on diet, exercise and supplements. He now works on four of the horses at our barn and has saved two from Founder. Do yourself a favor and hire the right guy for the job the first time around! read more

I called Chris this morning about my horse who had come up with an abscess. He came within the hour I called him even though it was out of his hours of business. She ended up having a bad case of thrush. He is very knowledgeable and professional! He treated her and put a cast on her. He will be my farrier for now on. It's hard to find a farrier who will give you his honest opinion. Chris is trustworthy. He was absolutely wonderful with her. Will have him out soon for my next trimming! read more

Finally a farrier that is reliable and on time. We had been through several people since our long timer left the business and none of them did quality, correct work. Our old gelding was becoming stiff and limpy. He was getting an odd flare on the inside of the right fore hoof and the left fore hoof was starting to look like a clubbed foot. Very good ferrier .Reliable and very patient . My mare is difficult but Chris took his time allowing her to relax, . He specializes in hoof care and explained to me about laminitis and how I can help my mare . I used 2 other ferriers and neither one told me my mare had laminitis, and that certain foods were causing her more harm. read more

I was so sad when my ferrier told me he was retiring but he recommended Chris Naron to take his place.
