I'm new to the area and was looking for a barber here. The guy was nice but the cut was horrendous. Asked for 1/2 an inch off the top and its uneven. I asked for a skin fade and is maybe a 1 at the lowest part. Didn't even shave the stray hairs on my cheeks and lower neck. Absolutely horrible. No line up either. Poor attention to detail. Just moved to the area and started checking reviews for places to get a haircut. Couldn't pass up trying this place after reading reviews and glad I didn't! Got me in just hours after I called, got a great haircut by a younger gentlemen that was checked on a couple times but who I assume is the proprietor. The attention to detail was very high and it was a comfortable and all business experience without the "chit chat", which i personally appreciate. This gem, like many of the best, is somewhat hidden. Tucked away in a Maple Grove office building somewhat visible on the south side of I-94, just off Hemlock and 73rd Ave, east of Perkins. Your best bet is to make an appointment. Otherwise, you may be passed up in line by those that have them. Just walk in the front door of this office building, take a right down the hallway, and take a left at the door before you end up walking into the salon at the end of the hall. You will be pleasantly greeted by Si (pronounced 'She'), the owner and operator of this fine establishment. If you don't have an appointment, he'll let you know if you're going to be passed up by those with appointments and may ask you to make an appointment for later. This will save you time in the long run. Again, make an appointment. Si is meticulous and will not rush your cut just to get you out of the chair. He isn't slow by any means, but practiced and thorough so that you won't have to go home and see longer hairs left over from a trimmer that has been buzzed over your scalp just once in a hurry to get on to the next one. The conversation will be what you want it to be; limited for the less loquacious. He is quite good at reading personalities and will make you feel at ease. All in all, you'll get a master cut for the same price or less than the Great/Super/Fantastic/Sport joints. I know I'd rather spend my money to support the guy that cares enough to do a quality job each and every time, probably at the expense of his own bottom line. read more

During my trip to MN, I needed a haircut, so I decided to make a quick stop at the first barbershop that I could locate. I was surprised to find the Original Barbershop, a nice and neat barbershop. It's a small 3-chair salon located in a mini shopping complex. The owner is very professional and experience, also a super-friendly guy. I had this very detailed review typed out and Yelp keeps messing up on posting it, so I had to delete it all. Bottom line, don't do it. The website is out of date so the pricing was way off. The haircut was nothing like I explained that I wanted, even after multiple attempts and communicating to him, and he seemingly understanding. Edges weren't clean or even, I'm trying to grow my hair out so I said not to touch the top, and he ran thinning shears through it at a hundred miles an hour. He's probably good at cutting a standard cut, but if you give directions I think the language barrier becomes an issue. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

This is a brand new barber shop owned by Si Vuong, a Master Barber. Some may remember him as the amazingly good barber that worked at Great Clips in Plymouth (next to Cub Foods, and near the movie theater). After he went missing, I spent a lot of time searching for him. He traditionally had lines of people waiting for him while the other chairs in the place sat empty. I am sure I was not the only one trying to find him. Finally, after a lot of searching, I found he opened up a new place. It may not be the easiest to find if you don't know it's there, but it is a great place. Everything is brand new, it is not in a high-traffic area, so it is easy to get to, and plenty of parking. It is just outside all of the major shopping areas, and is literally 2 blocks from I94. Si's service is just as everyone remembers - More than friendly, with a true appreciation seeing his customers. He always remembers me, and my requests, style, etc. Considering he doesn't have a computer there to tell him these things, I realize he really DOES remember all of this. A true professional! I hope everyone that used to visit him finds him at his new location. I would hate to lose this talented barber (again!). read more

After moving up to Brooklyn Park from the south Metro, I was a little disheartened that I might have to drive to Minneapolis to get a decent barber experience. Fear not, northwest Metro dwellers; there's an excellent barber right in our backyard. The Original Barbershop is hidden away inside a two story office complex on Ranchview and 73rd, just east of Hemlock and south of the I-94 interchange. look for the tan building with the copper colored roof. The shop is in the back of the building, to the left of the main hallway. I called him at 12:15 on a Friday afternoon, and he got me in at 1 p.m., which impressed me. Si is honestly one of the best barbers I've encountered. He's a dignified older Vietnamese gentleman who is extremely pleasant, friendly and incredibly meticulous in the work he does. He was very jovial and I enjoyed conversing with him while he worked his magic, but he gets quiet when he's working on the detailed parts, and that's a major plus: I like my barber to be completely focused during that part of the cut. In addition to giving me a great fade, Si also neatened up my beard, did a neck shave, and even lightly trimmed my eyebrows to tame their inherent bushy nature. The hair vacuum Si uses for cleanup is a nice touch and feels awesome. I was shocked when I went to pay. It was only $15 for all of the services he provided. If you want a great barber experience at a fantastic price, go see Si at The Original Barbershop. He's more than a barber... he's a follicular artist. I've been going to various barbers around the U.S. for years. I had my first barber experience in Austin, TX and haven't been to a standard hair salon since. Unfortunately, finding a good barber (or anyone that cuts hair) can be tough. If you're like me, you're very specific about the way you like it cut. I used to drive over an hour every 2 weeks just to go back to my barber after I relocated from north Houston to south Houston. When I moved to MN recently, driving to see my previous barber was no longer an option. After doing some Yelp! research I came across The Original Barber Shop with all 5 star reviews. Seeing a new barber for the first time is still a nerve wracking experience but I have to say, Si gave me possibly the best haircut I've ever had (which is saying a lot for the first time seeing someone new). I have seen Si every three to four weeks since 2010 at Great Clips. I've always jokingly said to him that he should open up his own barber shop because of his popularity. Every time I'd go see him, there would be at least two to three people waiting ahead of me. And then one day I called in to check his schedule. I was devastated to find out that he was no longer working there. Luckily, I ran into him at the gym and learned that my joke had became a reality. I immediately went and saw him a few days later. The barbershop wasn't too hard to find, its located in an office building right behind Perkins and right off the 94 freeway. There is no reason to not see Si. He gives a great haircut! The shop is new and inside a nondescript office building which makes it a bit hard to come by. That also means traffic through the area is slow which means little or no wait time. Si is super nice and knows what he's doing with a set of clippers and scissors. He tops off your cut with a straight razor neck shave with hot shaving cream and massage. This has happened twice to me with the Original Barbershop: 1. I call and schedule appointment with barber for later in the day. 2. I rearrange my schedule for the day around this haircut appointment. 3. I show up 5 minutes before my appointment time. Barber says he has 2 people in front of me. Shrugs his shoulders and says "Sorry". 4. I realize that in order to get my haircut, I will need to wait 30-40 minutes past my appointment time. 5. This was my first time at this location and Si was very nice and professional. I've had my same barber for 25 years, but he retired so I was looking for someone new. The pricing is very good and the location is just off of 694 and Hemlock Lane right next to Perkins. The cut itself was okay. I would say he has average skills, but as I said, I'm used to a barber that is more of a stylist. I would think this would be a great location for kids hair. I had called ahead to set up an appointment. I asked if they cut hair wet or dry as I like mine cut wet as I believe you get a more even cut. When I got there, he had no sink to wash my hair. I have fine hair so I had some hairspray in it. He had a squirt bottle to wet it which worked out fine. I won't be going back, mainly because he doesn't dry your hair, put any gel in or use any hair spray. read more

I was looking for a personal haircut experience and found it here. Master Barber Si knows what he is doing and takes his time. His attention to detail is superb. The barber shop is clean and cozy with a TV and magazines. He doesn't ask for your personal information (address and phone number) and always greets you with a smile. The price is comparable to other barber shops. The best part is at the end he vacuums your head with a hose and soft attachment to get all the little bits of hair left. I have been going to Si since every 5 weeks 2005 and regularly getting my hair cut at his old location of Great Clips in Plymouth, Si was always so popular at Great Clips I thought he should start his own place. Much like Jason, I called one day to make sure he was working, and they informed me he was no longer there, I was so sad at this news. After a few months of hopping around to different hair places, I was miserable, never getting a good cut, and nobody could deliver the haircuts like Si. Luckily, I stumbled upon a review online, which said Si had opened his own place, The Original Barbershop, I was SO happy to learn that he had opened his own barbershop. The location is great, super easy to find in Maple Grove right by the Arbor Lakes area. The haircut is amazing, a great, quick great looking haircut. The value for money is unbeatable, Si charges you $12 for a cut, neck shave with hot lather and a back massage, he will gladly trim your beard, eyebrows etc. as well for those of us with facial hair. Si is so polite, easy to talk to and really focused on making sure you leave happy with your haircut.
