Thankfully, Subway have come along and taken the issue out of their hands. That's how much extra space there was, enough for a whole restaurant to cohabit comfortably. It does seem as though Subway are wearing the pants now they've moved in together. The giant pink 'No.8' sign is relegated to one window and now it declares 'Subway' over the door. We told you he was a good-for-nothing, chauvinist-pig, No. 8, but you wouldn't listen would you?

The publication is aimed at a hip crowd that goes on often and always wants to know what events are around the corner. It's been around for 5 years, and I hope it lives to see many more milestones in years to come. The listings are broken up into categories like live gigs, theatre, weekly clubbing and one-off clubbing, so you'll have no trouble finding something cool to do each month. They also have venue, club night and restaurant reviews that are humorous and informative. While Totally Dublin is essential for finding out what's going on around the city, it's also a great read otherwise, with lots of well-written content, articles, band/artist interviews and more. The staff is probably young and doesn't take themselves too seriously, and this is reflected in the style and content, which is funny and interesting. It's the kind of cultural newspaper that I actually read cover to cover and sometimes even keep (it's that good!). It's distributed at businesses around the city and if you spot on, do not hesitate to pick it up!

Their listings section comes in handy when in the pub with friends who want to check out a gig but don't know where to go and their website is a great addition to the printed publication with its easy-to-use listings calender. If you join their facebook group you'll get the newest issue in the mail, even before it hits the streets, so you'll never have to miss out on any Dublin event. Whether the issues covered fit your areas of interest or not, the staff deserves a big pat on the back for delivering a cool-looking issue every single month. Though Rathmines is littered with Spars and Centras this little family-run business has managed to hold on in there despite the intense competition, although it probably has a little location advantage as it's just far enough away from the swan centre for you to consider being lazy and just buying what you need here.

The owners are always friendly and ask you how you've been. At different parts of the day you'll meet the wife, husband, and their sons behind the counter. One time I was having trouble with my DVD player and the husband actually offered a great deal of advice and told me to come back in to him if his suggestions didn't work! They've got everything you could imagine and I even found marshmallows there once that I couldn't find in Dunnes or Tesco. Some of the food in there is a bit dated as Ciara pointed out. One time I bought a bag of Dorito's ony to bring them home to find out that the bag had been opened and they were stale. Another time my flatmate went to buy milk and all sell by dates had passed the week before. So if you decided to fight against the corporate giants and support this shop, as I suggest you do, it might be best to stick to non-perishables!

The books on sale are many and varied, I was expecting a lot of Irish interest and books that wouldn't appeal, how wrong was I!? I asked, without much hope if there was a copy of Terry Pratchet's 'Nation' on sale, I have been looking for it for about 4 months and every time I check in Hughes & Hughes and Easons and any number of others it is sold out, not here however, there is one copy left with my name all over it (well, I wanted to make sure no one else took it!). They've got your standard travel, literature and history sections, but their real passion is gardening. If you look at history books, they've got tons on the history of, you guessed it, gardening. The thing that I really love is the little coffee bar that they've added in the back of the shop. It's a great little place to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee and a book, or you can sit in the garden if the weather is nice enough, might be waiting a while for that one!

This is three stories of books and it is worth taking a slow walk through! The books are new-book prices so they are a bit expensive but just seeing the huge selection of books and the huge store is enough. I ended up getting one book as a gift for a friend and a Hodges Figgis tote bag for myself. The people working here are friendly and knowledgeable. There is always someone around if you have any questions.
