I was shook up and heard the front wheel and fender making a terrible noise. I immediately pulled off the next exit and stopped at the Exxon and hubby said to find a hotel. Each search I did brought up high priced accommodations with poor reviews. Finally on YELP I found the Joyner Budget Motel. I called and a warm male voice answered assuring me of the safe location of his motel. Once I arrived and checked in I felt like I had just checked in with family! The room was close to my car, the office and it was exceptionally clean! I know I will sleep good tonight and take care of the damage issues in the morning. What a relief!!

I accidentally left something behind in the room after we'd left, and they were so sweet about sending it back to me. I ended up going back to pick it up - but the care they took after we'd already vacated our room was special - not every hotel owner would do that. Bottom line: If you need a roof over your head, a bed, and a shower for the night in the area, this has you covered. Nothing fancy - but you'll love the folks in charge here! Thanks for a memorable one-night stay!

I will have to say the grounds and building were in great condition and the service was very good. Our breakfast was also very good and the waitstaff were very friendly and helpful. I had no idea how historic this facility is and it is a living museum. From the iconic central structure which was completed in 1913, the interior designed by Dorthy Draper to lift the spirts of a war weary country which was completed in 1948. And in 1962 a secret bunker was built to house congress and the President and VP in case of a nuclear attack. The overall experience was very entertaining and enlightening. This is not a cutting edge modern resort but a piece of history that gives you a look at a time which was more simple in some ways but also very complicated from active war time into the cold war. The interior took some getting used to but after understanding the significance of interior design I can see why they are not making any major changes.

This hotel is so elegant, the staff is wonderful and every room is well appointed with a Lavazza coffee/espresso machine, a mini fridge and complementary waters. The service was great, a nice greeting when I checked in and the staff was friendly throughout the stay. Special shout out to Ginny at the front desk for her stellar service. The location is inviting, and my king bed & room with outside entry was spacious and clean. The room had all the Hampton amenities including a nice size TV, microwave, mini fridge, iron and full size ironing board, and a coffee maker. The bed was comfortable, and the room had a nice lounge chair. There was plenty of parking, and my room was in the back of the hotel (by the cabin) and the area was quiet and relaxing. The property has a lot of charm, especially the historic Cabin built in the mid-1700s, it catches the attention and is used as a special events space. The main house, Col Alto, is a beautiful Georgian-style brick home dating back to 1827. Both are rich in history and make the stay even more unique. I would absolutely stay here again and hear the historic rooms with bath tubs are the rooms to reserve. I was most pleased with the Kind bed & room.

The fact is the general manager and manager of this hotel have zero honor and will literally steal your money to meet their hotels quota. Hope it was worth the $150. I gave the management multiple opportunities to do the right thing. Do not trust this hotel with anything. If any business is willing to steal from you and then lie to you, there is nothing they are not willing to do. I stay at hotels over 100 days a year and never has something like this happened. While the property itself is vast with many things to enjoy and do, it was a bit shocking to see that many of the amenities did require extra fees, there were a few options to eat on the property for limited cost, which is a bit interesting since the room fee was already so much, with added activities fees etc. It is a stunning area however, lots of things to try between the hot springs, the golf course, archery, falconry, horse riding, a hike that is somehow gate kept? But they all do require an additional payment, some of which definitely gets a bit pricey. But it is a stunningly beautiful area with lots do to. The tennis court, lazy river and pool was free with our visit so that was nice to try and explore. There are limited food options that are inexpensive without driving a bit (driving anywhere is a bit hard as the valet can sometimes take up to an hour to bring out the car for some reason at times and you are not allowed to park yourself). Overall, great stay, but do prepare that your wallet may be a bit damaged.

However, the main building was completely destroyed in a fire and rebuilt in brick just after 1900 - so the facilities have a great blend of history and modern sensibilities. What I loved: * great valet and bell services. You are pampered right from arrival. * omni select guest benefits. We received a room upgrade, plus a welcome amenity mix * beautiful manicured grounds. We enjoyed walking around and seeing the families making s'mores and kids rolling down the grass hill. * spectacular banquet facilities for amazing weddings. * fun front porch traditions. What wasn't as great * extra charges add up. Valet parking, daily resort fees, charge for hiking (guide required) and adult pool (but family pool free) * small bathroom, with only a shower. * limited accommodation for late checkout. Luckily, our select guest status allowed our request to be accommodated, but before I mentioned that, the request was denied with such quickness that it seemed routine to do so. If you are looking for a luxury family resort vacation is southwestern Virginia, or love historic properties, you'll likely love the Homestead. If you prefer a more modern experience without add on expenses, it may not be right.
