We recently visited The old log resort to tube down the river. I seriously cannot say enough nice things about this place, Michael/Heather, and their employees. We were greeted with the utmost respect from the second we called, to pulling into the parking lot, getting help onto the river, and getting off. It was one of the prettiest parts of the river that we have seen, very wide open. Pulling into the campground from the river, allowed us to experience their adorable establishment. I truly can't wait to go back and camp next time. I won't say any names but we tried the same experience the day before at a close establishment. It was horrible, a long walk with no help, cash only, and a $80.00 cash deposit. The owner was very disrespectful also. read more

This is my second time coming to old log resort..we come with a group and rent cabins and utilize the campground area as well..we did a canoe trip last year and this year we rented kayaks...this place is awesome...we have a lot of fun out on the river and at the resort..owners are very friendly and helpful..the restrooms/shower house are very clean, they have a clubhouse where your whole party can come together and eat and cook food..its family friendly...fun for the whole family. Its definitely a real camping experience. We are already set up to come back next year! read more

The campground, cabins, and kayaking are nice, clean bathrooms, quaint and all around 2 thumbs up. They deserve props for that. The major problem is the location right next to the freeway. It's not a few cars and something you get used to. You cannot hear yourself think, let alone a cricket or a bird or any other sound from mother nature. Cars, semis, and everything in between zoom by at 70 mph constantly, all day and night! It was so distracting and loud, it took away from the purpose of getting into nature. You could hear when they approached and hit the rumble strips. Luckily I made friends w my neighbors and we laughed at the absurdity. We were shocked this wasn't disclosed or mentioned in reviews. Will not return because of that. read more

I made the trip up here with a large group about a month ago for a camping and canoeing trip and it was just what the doctor ordered for old Detroit-weary me. The rate was very reasonable, though we came a bit before the start of the busy season, and I'm not sure how much of what I paid went to the group and how much went to Old Log Resort. It's not the biggest campground, but I liked that there were some spots back in the cut, nestled amongst the woods, for me to pitch my tent away from the pick-ups and RVs. It's right off the road, and they could really use a bigger, easier-to-spot sign. It would have been easy to pass by were I not with a veteran of the place. There's a nice big campfire pit, and a cozy clubhouse with a wood-burning stove and nice varnished picnic tables. Definite pluses on what was a chilly, sometimes damp weekend. There's a big swampy pond near the campfire pit from which a symphony of frogs held court. Some people might have been annoyed by this, but I enjoyed it. And like I said, my tent site was a bit back in the cut. They have several cabins too. Our second night there it snowed some, and I looked into getting one, as some in our group hightailed it out of there. $35 a night ain't too bad, but I passed. They have an awesome old school bus for the canoe trips on the Muskegon River. They drive you upriver and meet you when you make it back. We had a choice between a 3 and a 6 hour trip. I went with the 3 hour, as the weather wasn't all that. Glad I did, as my partner in paddling and I got rained on some. Fortunately I had my bright yellow raincoat, and 2 employees were right there to meet us when we got back. And boy, did that clubhouse feel warm and inviting then. "Authentic Up North Adventure" is what the Old Log Resort hoodies promise, and that's just what I got. Some might say a little too authentic, but that kind of roughing it was just what I needed. The group I went with does an autumn expedition as well, and I might go back for that one of these years. Canoeing and autumn leaves sounds pretty awesome. read more

Went with my family of four, The deer flies were swarming and biting us non-stop! After less than ten minutes we all had about 15 or more bite welts and I called the resort to please help us get off the river. They didn't answer the phone after the first attempt, but did call us back eventually and told us where we could pull ashore. After waiting about an hour we did finally get picked up, and I was very appriciative of that. When we got back I asked the owner if she was going to refund any of our money, and she said "well, we did have to pick you up." I understand that its not the owners fault that the deer flies on this river were swarming us like a horror movie, but I don't think they spent over $75.00 dollars (the price of two canoe rentals) in gas picking us up. I think a fair solution would have been a partial refund. read more

Front desk was very polite and efficient and we left maybe 5 minutes after that. They already had all the gear packed up and ready so there was no wait time for that. The driver/owner (I believe Mike) was talkative and interactive which was a nice touch! My family and I have been using them for years, even with the new owners, still great service and we'll be coming back again and again! read more

Nothing finishes off a camping trip up north like a chill canoe ride on a bright sunny day! The boyfriend and I happened upon this place on the way back from Manistee, and we decided that a canoe journey would be a perfect ending to our mini-vacation. Old Log looked as good as any other place that rented out canoes so after a quick turn around on the state highway, we pulled in here. Canoe rentals start at $35 for 2.5 hours and go up from there. The owner, a former Detroiter, gave us the basic safety spiel, took us to the drop off point and sent us along our way to canoe the Muskegon river. We had a blast, and so did the dogs! Dharma, my pup, had to do the "I'm the king of the world" bit as she put her front paws up on the bow and stood there for a good 40 minutes! Upon our return, we got to check out the campgrounds, which consist a few tent sites and a number of mini-cabins. Immediately, this place when on my future to-camp list. Honestly, I cannot wait to return. They also offer kayaks and guided overnight canoeing trips. Just remember your sunblock (I have learned my lesson the hard way) and you camera to capture some great memories! read more

Two old f...t's in our late 70's had a FANTASTIC 3 hour canoe trip down the river. We can't rate the experience high enough. The owners Mike and Heather(?) were terrific...warm, caring and accommodating people. We wish them well. We highly recommend this place. I have been going to the old log my whole life and I continue to bring new people on a yearly basis and every year we fall in love with this place all over. It truly has everything you could want in a campground. for starters the owners Mark and Jeanette are the most kind people you could really ever meet. The cabins are always very clean and the price is very reasonable. The camp sites are also perfectly nestled right in the woods and along the river front. The river is the most relaxing easy going river I have ever canoed. The Bath house is always clean and yes the showers do take quarters but its very reasonable and it always gives you longer than what you pay for. There is a small store right on their property for small things you may want for your canoe trip to make it that much better!! And what they don't carry there is a small store right up the road within walking distance if you had to. Well as far as the bugs go it's true they do visit us every year as well but that's what being in the outdoors is all about you are truly in the middle of the woods here at the old Log so as I tell my friends every year make sure you have a really good bug spray and some awesome after bite cause lets face it were camping right!!! So as I prepare for my journey to the Old Log next week with my 20 or so of my closest friends I leave you on this note GO TO THE OLD LOG YOU'LL LOVE IT!! read more
