    Great location in the heart of Powell River. Tracy greeted us on our arrival and promptly led us to our room. Room rates are excellent and to our surprise included free breakfast and Wifi. The Decor is definitely vintage but it adds to the experience!

    Most enjoyable. Comfortable, friendly and laid-back. Breakfasts to cherish - wish I were there now.

If you are thinking about booking this property, I would strongly advise you to reconsider. I stayed at the Beach Gardens Resort and Marina for one night, while traveling to the Sunshine Coast. At check in I was informed that a $200 damage deposit would be charged to my card in addition to the nightly charge for the room. I figured it was similar to the pre-authorizations for incidentals etc so I wasn't overly concerned at the time. My initial impression of the property and the check in attendant was that they both seemed a bit sketchy. I know myself well enough though to know that I should have listened to my intuition and that What happened next should have come as no surprise. There was a notice posted in the room with the check out instructions. The instructions were to leave the key cards in the room and invoices would be emailed the following day. I figured the reason for this was that they were short-staffed so I left my key cards on the dresser as instructed and left. A few days had passed and I hadn't received the refund or an email with my receipt. I contacted the hotel through Expedia and received a reply from Cheryl Ilott, the Rooms Division Manager, on Aug 15th, confirming that the charge for the deposit had been released. The message I received from Cheryl stated, "We released it the next day on our end and it is now up to your bank when they do it." Cheryl Ilott. The message was very straightforward. It was clear from her response that the property was confirming that they had released the $200 damage deposit and any further delay was due to my bank. Essentially they were removing themselves of any liability for the deposit not being returned to my card and transferred the blame to my bank. Another 5 days had passed and there was still no refund, so on Aug 20th I contacted my bank. My bank confirmed that the charge had not been refunded as I had suspected. The agent asked me to contact the hotel to confirm the transaction details in order to get proof that they had released the deposit. I reached out to Expedia to see if they could assist me as I had made the booking through their site. It was at that time I was informed by the Expedia agent who had contacted the property on my behalf, that the TV was broken and the deposit had not been released. Firstly this entire broken TV scenario is a complete and utter fabrication. I was never informed of any of this by the hotel nor did they ever email me a receipt of my stay as is their protocol. I am an experienced traveler and have never been accused of damaging a TV, a hotel room or any its contents. I'm at a loss for how I could be accused of this by these people. I was given no details of the damages to the TV, no explanation of the charges or proof to support this ridiculous accusation. Although I am unfamiliar with this situation I can't imagine that any reputable business would just withhold a damage deposit without the courtesy of informing their customers of the charges. It goes without saying that this is not a reputable establishment. The claim against me is untrue and the way in which the hotel staff handled this was extremely unprofessional. These people are not only dishonest but are desperate! How is it that on August 15th I was told by Miss Cheryl Ilott, their Rooms Manager, that the deposit had been refunded and then 5 days later on August 20th, the story changed completely and I'm being accused of breaking their TV? Overall, I feel really badly for the hotel employees and management. When people have to resort to such unethical business practices and wrongfully accuse their guests of damages to generate income due to their apparent lack of cash flow is just tragically pathetic. So many employees and businesses, especially those in the hospitality industry, have been hit hard by the pandemic. But that's certainly no excuse to lie and make these types of accusations. It's sad that there are people like this who lack integrity managing this hotel. It's unfortunate because the location is so beautiful. During my stay there I remember thinking about what a beautiful property it could have been if only it had been owned and operated by the right people. Maybe one day it could be amazing and all hope is Not lost. I hope that one day this will be a lovely place for travelers to stay and that these desperate people don't have to resort to lying and defrauding their guests for much longer. Hopefully my review will shed some light on this situation and I can make a positive impact by preventing other guests from being taken advantage of.

    An honest review only reflects the room we stayed in and the situation at the time of the stay…read more July of 2025. I always endeavour in my reviews to be fair but forthcoming with my experience. Our expectations were low as the price was really affordable suggesting a typical motel experience -- which I suppose it was. The location is actually very nice. Great restaurants are literally a stones throw away. Great views of the ocean. The three of us had booked months before, online. While at Earls Cove awaiting the 10:30am ferry the office called wanting to know if we were still coming. Um, yes. But that's fine. Accommodations are tight in July. When we arrived I was surprised how steep the driveway was but our car is mechanically sound, no problem. It was dry and summertime though. The desk clerk wanted an extra $10.00 to cover some new local bylaw fee. Her English was bad. Then she said we needed to pay more as we had a third adult. We said that we had already paid and the online form had indicated three adult occupants. My spouse simply replied "no way we're paying more". The office person then said she upgraded us to the top unit with ocean views and we needed to pay an upgrade charge. Again, no way. Now I don't know if they were trying to get more money or these were legitimate issues. I'd like this little motel to do well so I'd suggest these options and any extra costs be stated upfront. Seems reasonable. Finally shown the room and code opening procedure, everything was explained well enough. There were two beds with a partial wall separation. The flooring was in reasonably good shape with one bad area. There was a kettle for tea (much appreciated!) and the usual coffee stuff and a microwave and fridge. There were no suitcase racks. There was a small dinette table. The bathroom was reasonably okay though they installed a large kitchen tap which was a bit unusual. The bathtub was surrounded by quarter round painted wood molding which was again, unusual for a wet environment. The curtain shower was sorta useless with water splashing everywhere on the laminate flooring no matter how careful we were. There was a bucket with three cloths and we were wondering why they were there. Ah yes, to wipe up the wet flooring which we did promptly. We wanted to care for the accommodation. There was no sign of rot or black mold anywhere, including around the tub. The door didn't lock on the bathroom as the handle hardware was too deeply set from the strike plate. There was no small garbage bag in the bathroom trash which was a bit neglectful and seemed unsanitary in my opinion. One of the electrical outlets was old and worn in the bedroom area so two pronged plugs would not stay in. On a positive note the units all had modern heat pumps or split A/C's (don't know the difference) mounted on the concrete just outside of each entrance which must have been a big expense for the owner and very much appreciated so thank you for that upgrade. The bedding, pillows and mattresses seem okay, clean and adequate although our bed was tight against the wall necessitating one person get in first or climb up from the top. Unfortunately the outer edge of the mattress I was on was slanted away from the centre and challenging not to roll off in the night. The front door is opened with an individual code but to double lock with the deadbolt too you need to wiggle the door a bit after it self locks. Not a big problem. If you are all paid you just drive away in the morning. There are damage prices posted and I think missing stuff prices listed. Perhaps clients take towels away with them. We were as careful with everything as much as humanly possible. There is also what looks like a large lower deck area being made with eating/sitting in mind perhaps but had a "stop work" order sign posted by the city I think. I hope they get that sorted out because it really is an advantageous, lovely spot. By the way, there are no "do not disturb" signs for use when in the room or temporarily out. You leave the curtains open when leaving by checkout time to signal the room is now free to clean. So, in summery an affordable accommodation for the night. Units and policies need a bit of tweaking. The town and local eateries are great.

Located on a very steep…read morehill overlooking the Salish Sea and the BC Ferry routes to Texada Island and Comox on Vancouver Island. This motel has been in a desperate need of an update and the new owners are doing just that! New mattresses (and super comfortable), new HD TVs, decent selection on the cable box, new fixtures in the bathroom and updated kitchenettes make for a great spot to rest up for a night or two. You can get a more than decent room for $70-115 per night. Some have one bed, others with two - Wifi is free, the staff are super accommodating and very helpful. Whatever you don't have they will try and get for you. Ask for the harbourview rooms and you won't be disappointed with the spectacular view day or night!
