Very cool and interesting decor. They have a keg chute that begs you to enter and slide down two…read morefloors. Otherwise walk down the winding stairs. They have copper kettles on -1 floor and horizontal maturation tanks on -2 floor. Dining area is a mix of indoor (lots of natural light) and outdoor; tables made of trees - you can see natural graining and knots. Since there were ample seating, you can find several that are smoke free (not no-smoking section). The Badisch Hell was delicious. My friend had the banana beer and was surprised at how delicious it was - not artificial banana flavor, but more like fresh, just ripe banana. I had the goulash with spaetzle. The dish was good except that their spaetzle was a bit firm/dry probably due to it being too flat. Do look up from where you sit to see the interesting architecture from the hotel next door.

In town for a week for work and this is the first place I had my first meal after checking into my…read morehotel which is about a mile away. I had the Viennese Style Schnitzel with potato salad. The schnitzel wasn't awful, it was just "meh". Firstly they didn't have Veal Schnitzel so I opted for pork. The breading was far below any other Schnitzel I've had in Germany and Ive had plenty. Pretty much all I eat in Germany is Schnitzel or Brats. Its what I imagine school cafeteria breading would be like if they serve schnitzel for lunch at schools here. Secondly the potato salad was chilled and not warm like traditionally served which was a disappointment. It was tangy though. If it was warm my review would have been 3 stars with the mitigating positives I'll get to in a moment. There was also no jam/jelly to dip the schnitzel in as Ive had at other places. To reiterate, its wasn't awful, but far below the others Ive had in previous work trips to Germany. Karls in Stuttgart for example is mind blowing. I am staying in Karlsruhe this time around and plan to try other spots this week. I hope the preparation at Badisch Brauhuas isnt a regional thing that reflects what I'll experience in other spots in the city I try this week. Now for positives. Service is great! Decor is awesome and unique. Beer is delicious and perfectly poured. The crowd when I was there was, shall I say, on the older side (north of 70) They were all hovering their dishes so Im sure they'd rate this place higher. There are some other spots in Karlsruhe I look forward to trying and Im hopeful this is a one off.

But this place has a very good selection of microbrewed beers that matches some of the best beers in the region. Their selections are fairly limited and need to look up the list of what's available, but the ones I have consumed so far, every single beer was just amazing. Their Weiss bier was very good. Even my brother-in-law from Munich thought their Weiss Bier was really good. They have very good food as well. I really liked their Schweinshaxe. I usually associate Schweinshaxe as a greasy heavy good, but not their's. It is not greasy but the meat just falls off the bone and very tender. We have tried their flamkuhen and it was very good as well. But I would avoid their BBQ ribs. Only thing you would get is very greasy ribs and nothing else. You would need more than a pint of beer to wash that thing down. Maybe that's the whole point. Their parking is very limited and street parking is very challenging but not impossible. If you are working/visiting for Agilent in Waldbronn, then this would be a good place to visit even for lunch. It is located about a 10 min walk. The staff are generally friendly except Friday and Saturday nights since they are very busy. And most staff we dealt with spoke very good English, but try to speak a bit of German goes a long way.
