We met the new owner and she's planning to change the name and aesthetic back to a more appropriate local appalachian theme and replace all the ACs. The driveway is steep and for a second it looks like you are on a private driveway to ha home but it's fine. Nearby Saluda has an excellent bakery/ coffee place called Wakey Monkey. There is a zip line outfit next door.

The owners are very accommodating and Sherri made the best breakfast we have had from any other bed and breakfast. Her French toast was to die for. The room had everything we needed for one night or for many more. The owners thought of everything. It is a hidden gem in Saluda, NC. It is a block from downtown and one of our favorite restaurants, The Purple Onion, when we are in town. You can walk to downtown within 3 mins. You will not be disappointed at all. When I arrived, I was given a feather-free room but on the second floor. The room was clean. The walls were on the thin side or the couple next to me were just loud talkers. The tv lineup was good for the little time I was in the room. WIFI was in the good range. Breakfast had a pancake maker; waffle maker, mini quiches and breakfast sandwiches; some cereals; oatmeal and breads. The hotel is good for an overnight stay.

We were no able to stay on our first reservation because of a sleet storm. Joe was very helpful in getting us set back up for a new reservation. I had several calls and emails from him about special events - one was an art and craft event. Joe was very welcoming when we arrived and was able to give us wedding ceremony info for our Son's upcoming wedding vows. Thanks for all the help Joe. The rooms suite included a separate bedroom and then the living/kitchen room. All very well-appointed and comfortable. The buffet breakfast staff was excellent, always ready for the 6:30 start. I would only recommend that they add some breakfast potatoes, bread for toast, etc. However, the selection was nice. The Lodge is near all of the sites, including Asheviile. A good center location. The fine dining restaurant and weddings were grand affairs. Unfortunately, the couple who bought it in early 2000s, bought it at a very low price, refinanced taking out the equity, and ran it for a couple of years until the stress had them part ways and they declared bankruptcy. A former co-worker told me he thought they walked away with over $1 million dollars. It is tragic to see such a beautiful, historic landmark treated this way. And then it was bought by a middle eastern man who ditch the historic name and used his own. I hope one day this lovely inn will be treated with the respect it deserves.

They have an on line reservation system but I'd prefer a standard check in process just because my phone coverage wasn't that great at the rest stop--that's really the only reason for dropping a star. I did speak to a very nice lady who took my information via phone but I still had to fill in a on line form and send a copy of my drivers license once I got off the phone. Got all the information sent in and back--text indicated I was in cabin 27 and had the code for the door. No problem at all getting into the cabin. Cabin was spotless and the queen bed was very comfortable. The cabin had a small fridge and freezer compartment (so I was able to refreeze my cooler blue ice pack and cool down additional sodas for the next day of traveling) and a nice work desk. The bathroom had plenty of nice towels (lots more than I would use--my wife would have LOVED it). WiFi worked great and I had a much-needed break from the road. I would have liked to have information on some of the trails nearby because I would definitely consider coming back to this area. I would definitely stay here again as long as I was traveling without my dogs. I FaceTimed my wife and she really loved the place--she and her sister may come and stay here depending on what trails and other places are in the vicinity. An added bonus (for me) was that the exit from the highway had a Waffle House so I had a place to get breakfast before getting back on the highway.
