We had a 11 AM appointment, we got there a little early however next steps does not have a board outside and the good Samaritan board is not as clear because what's visible is Mercy Oaks Hospital, so it's a bit misleading. We called the staff to let them know we were there and they guided us over between a hedge from one parking lot into another; pull into where it says good Samaritan Cancer center - park and you'll find a tiny door in .. that is the suite for the wig shop. The two ladies are very nice, helpful, and empathetic . The selection is good for light haired people, not for brunettes... What they had in the display is good , I would say it's limited selection. To me, the wigs appeared a bit pricey because I did go to three other stores with a slightly wider variety .... Definitely go there cause they do have good wigs for people with lighter hair . Google maps and Apple Maps mislead - so I posted a picture here of good Samaritan Cancer center. That's the place you turn in. read more

This was the first time I ever needed to purchase a wig since I'm going through cancer treatment and there were no available options close to me in the peninsula that took insurance. It was a long drive but Tammy made it worth it. She was warm, friendly and honest with me about what would work for my face and the style that I wanted. She was patient and open to the suggestions I had and also gave me great advice on how to use my wig and take care of it. They also do prosthetics for breast cancer survivors which is great. Although this place is very far from where I live, the warmth, thoroughness and attention in the process made this visit worth it. Also they have plenty of other accessories like caps, hats, swimsuits for survivors too. You'll need to schedule an appointment to be seen but they were really flexible with their appointments. This place has excellent service and large selections of Bra. I purchased the ANA brand bra. it was comfortable to wear with my recent breast surgery. The price for the bra was comparable with the other places to buy it on line. However, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED with cream and ointment that I bought that I will be using for my radiation. Just for this I decided TO NOT go back to this store again. REASON: when I checked on line, the cream and ointment that they sold me was almost HALF THE PRICE more, than If I had bought it at Walmart or Target. May not be a concern for others, but for me I felt cheated. If it was a dollar or 2 more, would probably not mind. But ALMOST HALF of the price more is ridiculous. There are lots of cancer patients that are not financially up there ! I will not recommend this place , but rather advise others to first check online to get a better price. read more

It's so rare that I give 5s to anyone. But this place is truly amazing. It is so hard to have to go through what we go through and having someone who is not only kind but so much compassion in the mission to help the person feel better. It was so comfortable and friendly here. I was a bit apprehensive in seeing them bc it was a mixture of feelings. Between the latest development and lack of empathy that I have received from prior visits with doctors, coming here was like therapy. One of my best friends just underwent a mastectomy & is going through chemo while also working. Yes, working. Today, she received a phone call from Tammy from The Next Step. When they'd concluded their business, my friend was having trouble hanging up. Tammy hadn't hung up either, but she thought she did. She overheard Tammy saying mean & judgemental things about her. When my friend said she could hear what Tammy was saying about her, Tammy hung up on her. My friend thinks Tammy is suffering from compassion fatigue. I think she's jerk. I'm posting this even though my friend probably doesn't want me to, because I don't think businesses like this deserve anyone's money. read more

Very disappointed in the store maybe others had a great experience, but I'm very disappointed. I know that I looked at the tags on my merchandise that I wanted to purchase when I got home there were no tags on any of my merchandise as well as not a receipt when I called the store a question all of a sudden they do not have tags and I was mistaken the price when I specifically went up to My Husband to ask if it was OK because the tag said $40 each When I was charged, they were 45. I live two hours away and drove all the way to the store because it was highly recommended very disappointed that I was being argued. The tags were taken off my merchandise, and the receipt was given to me when requested the price had changed. I am a Kaiser member that was referred to The Next Step to be fitted for prosthetics and bras. From the moment I walked into the door, I was made to feel comfortable. The environment is inviting and the level of privacy that was offered as I was measured and tried things on made things that much easier. Noelle's Yelp Notebook 2014 -My 600th Yelp Review- For my 600th Yelp review I've decided to share my experience at "The Next Step, A Woman's Boutique." Nearly, ten years ago I came here with my mom when she first went through chemotherapy. She purchased a wig, a stand for her wig, shampoo and hats. In 2013, my mom's rare form of cancer came back. This time around, I purchased her a wig and some hats. Upon arrival, we were taken into a private room and she was able to try on different wigs and hats. In October 2013, I fundraised $1,300 for Livestrong, donated my ponytail and shaved off my hair for Be Bold, Be Bald. I've never been bald before. I immediately thought of "The Next Step," in Los Gatos. I headed over there and purchased a few hats. They have a great selection of hats, wigs, and undergarments (for those affected by breast cancer). The staff is compassionate and kind. They are open Monday through Friday. It's probably best to make an appointment if you're going to try on wigs- so you can have the benefit of a private room and some time with one of their specialists. If you know a friend or a loved one who is going through cancer treatments that may lose their hair or have breast cancer- The Next Step is an invaluable resource. I wish they were open on Saturdays (meaning open to the general public not just via appointment only on Saturdays). read more

With a name like The Next Step one would think they would be positive and empowering instead we walked away feeling less than stellar. The store is nicely lit, one feels like they are stepping into a boutique rather than a medical device company. The available wig styles are nicely displayed with accessories framing the display heads. When I walked in with my girl friend, the woman at the front desk greeted us with a pleasant smile. She was busy on the phone but it was nice to be acknowledged. I was excited to have found such a nice place to help my friend find a quality wig that flattered her. Unfortunately, this is the end of the pleasant experience. Another woman approached us and spoke very abruptly, asking how she could help us. My friend stated she was looking for a wig. The woman asked if we wanted to know the story of the wigs and we of course said, "yes". The woman gave a very perfunctory and loud explanation of the type of materials and cost. I am not sure if she thought we were deaf or why she spoke so loudly. At this point, we felt we had the information needed to view the wigs, select a style and then engage the salesperson when we had decided. The salesperson seemed very pushy and curiously reluctant to just let us look at the displays. This was my friend's first trip to a wig store and she was a bit overwhelmed. When I asked if we could have a moment to view them so we could discuss which would look best on my friend, the salesperson belted out that we would have to interact with her to make a purchase. At this point her aggressive tone had upset my friend and she excused herself. I followed suit, happy to be away from the rude woman. My takeaway: Regardless of the reason one is in need of hair replacement, the selection of a wig is a very personal choice that requires time and compassion. A choice that takes time to view options and make a decision. That decision cannot be rushed, nor expedited by the presence of a salesperson. Since this is a store that targets chemotherapy/cancer patients, I hope that other potential customers are treated with more compassion than I witnessed. I will not be back. read more

The blond, long haired woman who attended me was not good. She treated me brusquely, twice left the room to consult with "someone who would know" since she didn't believe I needed a prosthesis (non one ever arrived), told me not to look at myself sideways in the mirror, and sold me 2 bras that were so tight I had to later buy extensions so I could wear them. You feel vulnerable when buying your first bra after surgery and I left feeling worse. And you can buy the bra she sold me (Anita) online for $5. cheaper. I won't be back. read more

This place is great! Tammy and Jane are wonderful! So patient and kind. Very knowledgeable. I called and someone either answers the phone or gets back to you. When I first called they were all at a training seminar in Las Vegas but returned my call immediately once they arrived back in the store. Imagine - getting the whole staff trained so that they can provide the best service possible. Very impressive! I live in Berkeley and it was well worth the drive down to Los Gatos. Jane measured and fitted me with the correct bras and prosthetic in no time at all. My doctor faxed my prescription over to them and so there was no problem. If you should need bathing suits they have a large selection. They also have wigs. This is a one-stop shop for the mastectomy women. No need to look or go any farther. It is so nice to wear a blouse and not be lopsided. It fits so well that the prosthetic does not move and bounce around like the previous store I went to (they sewed the pocket in - not a true mastectomy bra). They even recommended a place to eat so that I did not have to drive back on an empty stomach! I will definitely make the trip here annually to get my new bras. Highly recommend! read more

I had recently made the decision not to have reconstructive surgery after a disappointingly extensive and deforming lumpectomy and finally worked up my courage to explore the possibility of a prosthesis. Everyone at the Boutique was professional, supportive, and helpful. Pranee, my expert fitter, spent so much time with me finding the perfect prosthesis and pocket bras to accommodate it. After a mastectomy, the importance of appropriate clothing can't be overstated. When I came to The Next Step, owner Marita knew exactly what I needed. The impact of her support will continue far longer than the few minutes I spent in her store. I'm still shell-shocked by what's going on in my life, so when I got the list of providers for post-mastectomy supplies from my surgeon's office, I picked the one with the logical and assuring name, "The Next Step." Being new to the Monterey Peninsula area I asked my Physical Therapist for the name of a Certified Mastectomy Fitter in the my area. She recommended The Next Step in Los Gatos, CA. I really didn't feel like driving over an hour to the woman's boutique; however, it was well worth the drive. Marita, the owner, took her time in fitting me for a new breast prosthesis and several new bras. Marita also took the time to contact my insurance company to make sure all of my purchases were covered by my insurance plan. I left the boutique with my new prosthesis and bras. Kudos to Tamra McMillan and The Next Step! My girlfriends and I came in without an appointment. We actually had an appointment at another shop but arrived in the area an hour early. Tamra welcomed us with open arms. I am an ovarian cancer patient and she asked about my treatment plan. After going over the details and really listening to me, she picked out the perfect wig! She took the time to fit it properly, had us go outside to see it in natural light. We took pictures, she let us enjoy, as much as possible our wig shopping adventure. My wife and I are from Tennessee, visiting our son. She just started receiving chemotherapy. This afternoon my wife, son and I visited "The Next Step" so that she could find a wig. We were met upon arrival with a kind and warm greeting. After a quick explanation of their products we were introduced to Julie. She talked with my wife regarding the type of hair style, color etc. When finished she said I think I have just the right one for you. She returned with several wigs, The first one she tried was the exact color and style that my wife liked. Julie understood her wishes and fulfilled them quickly. She brought a few more wigs, to look at but it was the first selection that my wife chose. Julie explained clearly all that she needed to know regarding the care of the wig. We were so impressed with her personal attention and caring way that we decided to write 5 start report when we got home. I came in here with my mom to get her a new bra and prosthetic. She doesn't speak English that well, and the women there were very condescending. They kept shoving things in her shirt without letting her know what was going on. When she stated that she didn't like a certain fit on a bra, the sales associate seemed to imply that she was wrong for feeling that way. There aren't any similar stores anywhere close to us, so we are limited to shopping here. My mom also paid for stuff in full at the store--with one bra that's supposed to come in the mail because they didn't have her size in stock at the time--but they called several weeks later saying that she never paid. We checked credit card statements and she definitely paid in store that day. The Next Step lost all record of her payment--not my moms fault at all--and yet they want her to fax/mail in a receipt to prove that she's not lying. Talk about bad customer service. read more
