Stumbled into this warm and inviting pub on the way home from a weekend away…read more Right away we knew we'd struck gold. The staff were very welcoming and the menu varied and exciting. I settled for a Steak and Ale Suet Pudding... before it even arrived I knew I'd be in for a treat, everyone around us were eagerly tucking into there dishes. When our meals arrived we were not dissapointed, the puddings was cooked to perfection, the vegetables were obviously fresh. Pub food: but done excellently, fairly priced, warm welcoming staff and environment. A Must!

This is our favorite diner and social bar throughout the UK. My wife of 40 years, (Linda originally…read morefrom Yorkshire) and I frequented this pub mainly on Fridays and weekends while doing our postgraduate degrees at Lancaster University. In fact, my first date with Linda was at the plough, in August of 1974. We were students then, so had a tight budget, so we kept our appetite under control and enjoyed the best Fish and chips, Cumberland sausage, meat pies and mushy peas.... Linda and I got married in 1976, 3 months after our getting our PHD and Masters degrees respectively; we worked in three Continents Europe, Middle East (Asia) and America. We always had a soft spot for the Plough Inn at Galgate, it remained as one of the best places we got to know. Having lived in Michigan USA (since 1985) with our three children, my daughter Carol turned 18 in 2004 so we decided to take her on a pilgrimage to the plough Inn since the legal drinking age in America is 21. We invited a few of our friends from all over the UK for a reunion after 30 years and had a great time (picture attached). Carol, my daughter started where her parents left off. We enjoyed every minute of being there and the food was as expected, second to none in England. Life was great and our memories are only kept at this pleasant location that gave us Boddingtons and Lagers to forget about the week's science overload doing Biochemistry; Of course, there were times that we only had Shandy and Lager & Lime on Saturdays because of a typical Friday night student pub-crawls on campus . In summary, never hesitate about the Plough Inn, Food, scenery and friendly staff will impress you. We are retiring by the end of this year and we will be visiting our favorite spot for probably the last time. Congratulations to the Plough for maintaining our memories by having such a wonderful business. What else does any man want? A good wife for over 4 decades and great food all found at the Plough Inn!

Plough Inn - Trio of sausages. Usually comes with mash but we requested chips which they happily did.

I first visited the Kenlis far more years ago than I care to remember now. Back then it had a bar…read morebilliards table and the whole concept of pub food, with the exception of a cellophane wrapped ham sandwich or a pickled egg, had yet to be invented, certainly around this area anyway :-) All these years on though the Kenlis is still very much the same as it was back then. The bar billiards table has long since gone, replaced by a pool table, and the pub now serves food, but it still retains a quirky uniqueness as a result of being privately owned and run. There is a pile of board games in the corner of one room and newspapers and magazines are available to browse, novelty teapots adorn the walls and you can buy chocolate from behind the bar or jelly beans and sweets from a vending machine. There is a children's play area outside and it is also a hotel with a few rooms at reasonable rates. The food is inexpensive, we didn't dine but the menu included standard pub fare; steak pie, roast dinners, burgers, steak etc. A couple of cask beers were on including one from the local Bowland Brewery which was very pleasant. It is a big imposing building seemingly in the middle of nowhere, in fact it was kind of well known for being difficult to find in the days before satellite navigation :-) It is also close to the canal and there is a visitor mooring for a couple of boats by the bridge ( Bridge 54) or alternatively it is possible to moor on the towpath although it can be a little overgrown at times.

Pool table, darts and even board games will keep the family entertained - and I believe they even have entertainment on each month. Worth a stop off if you`re in the area.
