I visited this place four years ago back when it was in the Barlow. It was so good then that I had to look them up next time I was in town at their new location. Love the polinator with dragon fruit! I've been coming here since they first opened, and as a local health professional and foodie, I appreciate a great juice bar and smoothie spot. I don't know if the owner is difficult but I've noticed a high turnover among staff, which seems to be affecting quality. Not only did it take over 15 minutes to get my order because there was a single staff member but my last two $15 smoothies have been watery and missing the garnishes I've enjoyed for over a decade. The nectary is on a corner of Healdsburg Ave with plenty of street parking. I walked in on a rainy Sunday afternoon and it was very quiet. I ordered two of their Strawberry Nectar juice and two smoothies: The Matcha & the funky monkey. If you are looking for a healthy drinks and food, this place has got it all, from cold pressed juics, superfood smoothies, wellness shots, lattes, raw foods, acai bowls, mylks & nectars, etc. I really enjoyed my Matcha made in Heaven smoothie. I couldn't taste the matcha much, only strawberries and protein powder but it was sweet, full of good ingredients that makes you feel good instead of regretting it later. The Nectary has been one of my very favorite places in Sebastopol since they opened. I would frequently get juice or smoothies when they were in The Barlow and was disappointed when they moved as it's a less convenient location, but I kept going back as their juice is fresh and their bowls are refreshing. They are now under new ownership. The new staff members are kind and attentive. G Love is my favorite juice and it seems like they have changed the formula. I am hoping they stick to some of the original recipes that we love and keep their raw chocolate treats on hand. Time will tell! read more

Since it was a warm day, I was looking for a juicery for a healthier option to cool off. Originally with my heart set on the cold press juice especially the Watermelon Blissness. However, upon entering we found that they were already pre-pressed and bottled in the fridge for $10 each and I think $2 for the bottle deposit. Since we aren't from the area, short of drinking it and returning the bottle on the spot, I really did not need another $2 bottle for salad dressings. So changing direction, for slightly lower prices, we opted to try their made to order smoothies instead. The Chai Babanada had dates, honey, almond milk, and rooibos herbal blue lotus chai. Love the creaminess of this smoothie and the dates and bananas worked well together. The Pollinator had dragonfruit, pineapple, mango, ginger, bee pollen, and coconut water. A little too muddled where it's hard to taste the fruits itself but did enjoy the bee pollen topper. read more

I don't wanna judge this place too harshly given that I've only tried two things. This feedback is based solely on those items. Haven't tried the smoothies yet and they may be fantastic as other reviewers are saying. I picked the Nectary as a spot to try for drinks with my mom and aunt and after checking out their menu, I had high hopes. I wanted to try one of their smoothies but upon arriving, the only employee working informed us that someone had put in a large order so it would be around half an hour before she could make us anything with the blenders. My mom wanted a fresh juice and was pretty disappointed to find that they'd all been premade already and were sitting in the fridge separating, with a price tag of $12 each! Now I know the rent in the Barlow has got to be sky high, but we make our own juices at home regularly and A) they're supposed to be drunk shortly after juicing so as to receive the full health benefits and B) they simply should not cost that much, even if being made on the spot. My mom and aunt decided to split a green juice, the Kalalau, which contains romaine, kale, apples, parsley, and a few other things. You could tell by their faces that it tasted terrible and I felt kinda bad for having picked this place out. They didn't even finish it. Upon tasting it myself, can confirm that it is not a pleasant blend. For myself, I settled on a matcha latte which was a mistake. I should have just waited for the blenders to be free and gotten a $12 smoothie because not only was this thing very small for $7, but it tasted like a wheatgrass shot--gritty, with no sweetness whatsoever. I'd asked for extra honey but could not detect any sweetener at all. I added a splenda packet--still bitter--so I had to take it back and ask for honey. Was given a little more, which made it palatable, but still nowhere near sweet enough for my taste and certainly not enjoyable. I might someday go back and try a smoothie, but eh... from what I've tasted so far I'm super baffled by all the rave reviews. read more

I will start by saying I love what The Nectary does, and stands for, in regards to organic, healthy, and locally sourced foods. We need more places like this and I would strongly encourage stopping by here for a smoothie. But not an Acai bowl (at least not right now). This place went from being my absolute number 1 for Acai bowls, to last place. A few months ago I swore this would be the only place I ever needed to go to get a top quality Acai bowl. But this past weekend my wife and I waited for 40-50 minutes for two bowls that were simply bland. The pictures of the bowls you see posted on Yelp are what they *used* to look like before they moved and got new staff. Until the new staff is trained up, you will get something much different in terms of flavor and presentation. Naturally, we tipped up front too which we now feel was undeserved considering we asked for no banana in one bowl but still got it. Not a big deal by any means but also- why tip for a wrong order on top of two disappointing Acai bowls? That said, the owner is perfectly friendly and reasonable. I think this place will return to its former glory eventually but we won't be back for some time. I'm sure our experience was an outlier so I'd still recommend others to try this place. I love that I can have a superfood smoothie made with the very healthiest ingredients in my hometown without having to already have a supplement department in my kitchen. These aren't your over sugared chain store smoothies let's spike your blood sugar and should really be a dessert, rather more medicinal smoothies with function that happen to taste really good. I showed up to buy a smoothie recently and saw that they are in the process of moving out of the Barlow. I'm very grateful for that, as the Barlow gets way too busy on the weekends these days and sometimes I just want to get in and get out with my cold delicious beverage. Yes the price of the smoothies are more than average, but the ingredients are infinitely better for you. Yes, sometimes they take a while to get you your smoothie, but if you're in a hurry, call it in. They're not using low quality, pre-mixed powders and things, sometimes good quality takes a minute. read more

I was really excited to try this place as it came highly recommended to me. After popping in on a sunny Wednesday afternoon I was met with a very abrupt and incredibly rude front office/cashier. I was curious about the green juices and asked a few questions about the "activity" in the juice and if it looses its potency if it's stored for a day, a genuine valid question for a new juicer. I was met with a rude, almost annoyed peeved response.... "excuse me?" was her reply, no real interest in my question but more of a buy your juice and leave, she gave me no real answer, no warmth or welcomed words. I really felt like this person had no interest in serving or being your face of the business. Shame, I wont be coming here again, and the person who recommended this place who is a regular won't waste his dollars either. Too bad. read more

I feel like me and Michelangelo S. might get a long really well because I am also equally in love with this awesome little spot that simply serves cold-pressed, unprocessed juice but in a fancy, you can come here for a meal kind of way. We stopped by after Sub-Zero because I was really curious. They had a full menu describing every kind of like 24691479124 juices they had, blends, as well as offer shots. I will admit, these are pricey. You can get a 1 oz or 2 oz shot of pure juice or blend of juices & ingredients for anywhere between $2-5. The $5 golden shot was totally worth it, however, since everyone LOVED it. I am not entirely sold on the whole juice craze, but I will say this is a nice departure from the usual food varieties available at this kind of a marketplace. I was excited to check this place out but it was a disappointment. Not one of the 3 young employees bothered to greet guests upon entering the business. We purchased 2 green shakes that were presented in beautiful glass bottles. The labels are hard to read and there's a yellow sticker on a few that doesn't clearly indicate what it means. 7 minutes passed before an employee bothered to assist. (The yellow sticker means lemon is an ingredient in the shake). The shake was not something I would buy again. The flavors don't blend well together and need to be readjusted to reduce bitterness. One was completely off putting. The biggest problem with this business, and the reason for the 2 stars is because one employee was preparing someone's meal WITHOUT gloves, then then next minute, accepting card and cash payments and touching the computer screen. The next minute, she's back to preparing the meal. No hand washing was involved. This is not allowed and management needs to get in to better train employees. You are working with raw, unpasteurized food. Please don't contaminate it! read more

I am surprised at the negative reviews. Yes it's expensive when you compare it to purveyors of sugary drinks like Safeway. If you think about how many organic vegetables go into one of these drinks the profit margin is absolutely no better (likely much worse) than a conventional drink. Many of the poor reviews seem to eminate from angry locals. I wonder if their anger is from the business or fear of something else. Anyway kudos to the owner for all the hard work and effort. The Nectary is a highlight of the Barlow- along with Guayaki Yerba Mate, they're one of the first occupants. They've improved since they opened. They're a lot friendlier&have gotten into the swing of things. Am I the only one that felt that the juice was overpriced? I guess I'm not that used to cold-pressed juicing or whatever, but I got a bottle of Kalalau Green and it came to $10.... Tastewise, it seemed pretty good to me, but "healthy-tasting" and vegetal, so I can see some people disliking it. The fruitier options might be better for some. The space was nice and clean, but I can't see myself being able to afford enjoying this very frequently at all. I browsed the raw foods for a bit, but they were expensive as well. As a chia fan myself, I know a pound bag of chia seeds is not that expensive at all. You splash chia with some almond milk and add what you want to it, and it becomes, magical chia pudding. I was so excited to find açaí bowls in Sebastopol but this place was such a disappointment. The employees took a good 5 minutes to even say hello when we walked in, despite being the only customers there. They could not have moved slower or seemed more bored/disinterested. I noticed that they were not wearing gloves, handling ingredients with their bare hands and then handling credit cards, the iPad, touching their faces, etc and then going back to preparing food. Really gross and unsanitary. When we finally got our bowls a good 20 minutes later, despite being the only customers there, they were so bad that we took a few bites and threw them away. I've never tasted such bland, icy tasting açaí. The whole experience was such a disappointment and I can't believe I wasted $25 on something that was basically inedible. read more
