This institution has been here as long as I can remember…read moreand our family has been coming to Boothbay on and off for near 60 years. walking through is a bit like walking down memory lane starting with walking with my parents to walking with our kids and now just us.It is not that the store is so great or the prices but, like Boothbay it is a constant in a world of change. Prices have gone up as with the times, but there are some great chotkes to be had. It is always great to walk to the back of the store to look out the window at the pier and its goings on while thinking whether the grand kids would like the plush lobster or the puffin better. It is still a great place to dawdle and browse, Long live this Smiling Cow.

They really curate a wide selection of products to choose from, the prices are so reasonable (especially when you consider most of it is hand made or small batch), and you can feel good knowing your money is staying in-state. Artist are always bringing in new pieces so definitely revisit maybe once a month if you're in the area, I felt price and was very reasonable, especially since it was art. The store itself was very neat, clean, and organized . There was a kind gentleman who was helping me check out on July 5. He held good conversation and even helped me pick out a good piece of art that I was looking at. I walked by and was instantly intrigued by what I saw when I walked past the front door. There is truly something for everyone in here. I was instantly drawn to the beautiful glass fused jewelry who was made by the artisan who happened to be working the shop that day, Lori. All of the handmade jewelry here was so beautiful- fused glass, sea glass, and my favorite dichroic glass jewelry. I ended up buying a matching dichroic glass pendant and ring set for $30 total. I get complimented constantly on them. I wanted to buy so much more!! Another of my favorites in the store was Queen Bee Herbal- natural soaps, lotions, bath bombs, and things of that nature. I chose the lemon chiffon hand & body cream because it smelled so delicious. I also bought about 6 of the bath bombs because hey, those are awesome! I just found her facebook page "Queen Bee Herbal" so I could find out where to buy more hand cream! Luckily it looks like she does the farmers market in Portland! I could have spent so much money in here. Another artisan creates drawings/paintings of cats, dogs, or horses frolicking along the beach having a good time like they are human beings. I ordered a bagel sandwich (I think it was called the Gardener) that came with jalapeno cream cheese, sprouts, red onion, and tomato ( I got it without the tomato). You order at the counter and they were nice enough to bring our food out to our table after we sat down. My sandwich was very tasty. The jalapeño cream cheese was actually a little spicy, which I loved. The only reason I'm eating four stars instead of five is the price - I just think $12 for what is essentially a bagel with cream cheese is a little ridiculous. For that reason, I don't think I would come back, even though the food was good.

The store is partnered with The Smiling Cow next door, which carries some decent clothing and lots of items with Boothbay Harbor emblazoned on them (if you're looking for souvenirs of your stay, you'll find 'em here).

I always go there for "event clothing" when I am attending a wedding, graduation or what not. They have a casual side of the store to with great finds. I never go out of here empty handed. Its such a fun store owned by a brother and sister who took it over from their parents. They both have good taste and are always in the store. I would highly recommend!

The worst by far was when my patient husband was browsing-while I was looking around -was obviously being followed, no matter where in the 2 rooms he walked. He has very dark skin and the lady following him was a blond (so am I) older lady and it was the most stereotypical racism. She never asked if he needed help or even smiled or tried to even act professional. My parents live nearby and we've been visiting them here the entire 20 yrs we've been married. This salesperson made him feel like a felon. He takes care of children who have cancer as his career but I guess they weren't interested in anything more than his skin color. I guess at least she has her job instead of his.

we happened upon this gift store outside of the main center of downtown boothbay harbor;…read moredistinctively placed next to the seafood/hot dog stand, which i hear is excellent, but have yet to try it (next time). at first one would believe it was only due to the anxious anticipation of shopping for something i wanted (imagine a shopaholic on the brink of freaking out for not shopping in the last 4 hours...). yes, it wasn't pretty... what great little gifts and other assorted goodies, not the typical tourist gifts shops located throughout; the owner considers her place as "unique gifts from the spice islands" - indonesia. i can't wait to see the expression on everyone's face when they receive these little exceptionally priced imported gifts. i give credit to the woman owner, patricia stone, utilizing a small area, making it an interesting and eye-catching place to stop. her pleasant and relaxed manner made it even more enjoyable to pick up as much as i could carry. i would have bought more, but needed to wrap it up in order to prepare for a night out for dinner (see newagen inn, southport, maine review...eek!). if i knew what dinner was to be, patricia would have been extremely happy. i had only began to shop when it was time to go. located as you venture through the one way road out of the gift shop route, where you begin to enter residences, then happen upon this excellent find. patricia has another showroom in wiscasset, which i never seen nor can review, but if it is like this place, then it rocks! reason i select home/garden in the categories is because of the type of gifts that can be used in gardens too.
