No Yorkie should be cut this short. He looked like a chihuahua. He was in so much pain from the razor burn that he couldn't sit or lay on his belly for hours. I put cold clothes on his tummy to try to help with the burn. He shook for 24 hours. I wasn't going to complain because I took me previous dog there and I always had good experiences but who ever is grooming there these days does not know what they're doing.

*WARNING!!!* Do NOT use this vet…read more My young daughter took her cat in to get spayed and was charged $740!!! And this is AFTER having paid $140 for a 5 minute (literally) consultation. This is far more than we have ever paid for any of our cats (or dogs). She was prepared for a vet bill of $400ish dollars. We told her how much it would be based on having had 8 cats go through it (at different vets)- one of which was last month a one of the best clinics in our area on the Lower Mainland. I looked up the recommended fee on the CVMA (Canadian Vet Association's) fee guide- and this price not even close to what is suggested. I then went on to randomly google vets in the area.... All of which charged far less. This was not an emergency procedure, and there were not any complications. I was sure that there was a mistake, and called for clarification, asking why it is so much higher, and the office just said "well I guess we are more money, but thats our price". They were cold and unapologetic while our 19 year old daughter is in tears. She was also charged for a microchip that no one discussed with her (ethical???). She was not given a quote for anything by the way. She was however sent a contract at 7am to approve the morning surgery, which she rushed to complete- only one signature was required. At no point did anyone explain or outline the cost or the addition of the microchip. The price breakdown that I eventually insisted on was given to my daughter. The breakdown charged a fee for the "spay" which seemed reasonable at $216. But then went on to charge extra for: anesthesia (is this an option), fluids, pain medications, and a collar (that she was not given). We encourage everyone to spay their cats (for all of the obvious reasons) but with it costing $900, I can see more people declining than going forward with it. :( Lets just hope that from here, our cat will heal well in case the vet decided not to use stitches because it "is an extra" or was not specifically requested. So brutal.

Lots of auxiliary staff, line ups to buy food, not enough seating. I regret to say I am going to find a vet that is NOT under the VCA model, where there is more consistency and they take a personal interest in you and your animal.

Dr. Chalmers is very professional, maybe too professional as we found her to be unwelcoming and…read morevery cold to talk with. The fee's are very high at this clinic as well. So much so that I had to stop going in with our fur babies as our family had fallen on some financial difficulties. We knew we needed flea treatment and could afford that but was denied the preferred treatment we had our pets on for years because I denied a check up that I could not afford at the time temporarily. We could afford the flea treatment at the time but when explaining this to her secretary at the time she didn't care, so I asked to speak with Dr. Chalmers herself. I patiently waited while she tended to another client and then her secretary went in and spoke with her. Not sure what was said but Dr. Chalmers sided with the secretary and we were denied flea treatments that I preferred unless we booked a check up for our 3 Tzu's. Fair enough. I went and saw my father who kindly came with me to help me out. The fee for check up, shots and flea treatment was well over $500 which I nearly had heart failure over as I told her prior to the appointment I could not afford much. Long story short I left feeling embarrassed, ashamed, angry and couldn't go back. I never did get my fur babies to a vet again and thankful they lived to be 12 and 14 years trying to treat fleas, and any other ailments myself. Hopefully Dr. Chalmers reads this and learns from it. It's not about the money it's supposed to be about caring for the animals, I was left feeling that she only wanted to treat those clients with money. She's a good Veterinarian but wish she would change the attitude within he clinic.

Baby Dog was the one that was recommended over and over again without hesitation. We've now been going to weekly sessions for three months and my dog while having mastered what they teach loves the class so much that we just keep coming. When I pull up in front of the class she knows what we're there for and her excitement is off the charts. Aviva and her team run amazing classes and they should be the go to for every new puppy owner in Victoria. I studied to be a dog trainer 17 years ago when considering a career change. That said, I have learned a ton from Aviva while having our pup trained and her approach and explanations are much more effective and in line with what dogs need, than what I was originally taught. We are very luck to have Baby Dog as a resource.

I decided to make the trip up with my puppy and I am so glad that I did. First of all the care and time they took to make sure that she had her harness fitted properly really impressed me. While more expensive than the average harness, they can't be making much or any money on them, when they take this much time to do it. What also impressed me was their training facility. They have a huge space set up, with separate entrances for reactive dogs. It was clean and exceptionally well appointed. I was so impressed by everything to do with these guys, that I have signed up for training there with my pup. We will make the hour or so journey, because it is just worth it.
