We came for the evening mystery tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and I enjoyed every bit of it. No first sighting but it was great learning about the history. The only bummer is that we had the last tour and nothing on premise was open after it finished. Would've liked to grab something from the coffee or gift shop

Such a beautiful spot and one heck of a change of scenery and pace after 3 days in the French Quarter. We booked the General David Bradford room and damn was our room spectacular! We stayed overnight on a Tuesday which sadly is the day the bar and restaurant are closed. Not a problem for us though since I have IBS (fructose and lactose malabsorption) and travelled from California with our camp stove and travel bar. Upon arrival we were greeted by Ivan the turkey. Little did we know how friendly Ivan was and that this would be the year we pet a turkey. Once settled we made old fashioned's and enjoyed them on the island with the ducks. For dinner I set up our camp stove in the parking lot (made steak with sliced potatoes) and we ate on the patio. Ivan the turkey hovering like a dog looking for a hand out joined us (he nabbed a piece of garlic steak toast with lightning speed). In the morning, walking around the property, the duck family that joined us for happy hour the day before overnight layed 2 duck eggs which I grabbed and later boiled (excellent breakfast). Before leaving we took the free tour given by Erin who has a great sense of humor and candor. The entire staff was very friendly and full of information, especially when I asked how safe are the duck eggs to eat (thanks for the float test tip). This was such a great stop for us off the beaten path between the French Quarter and our next stop in Lafayette. Food options though in St.Francisville, though we cooked for ourselves, seemed limited in this very small town so just be aware if you suffer from food issues like I do. But staying here was spectacular.

Very much worth the drive

Was finally able to visit The Myrtles Plantation and it was exactly everything I had hoped for. The staff is very friendly and answered all my questions. They do have a gift shop and you are able to spend the night. We walked the grounds before our tour and made sure we left New Orleans on time to avoid being late. We had the last tour of the day and our tour guide was very knowlegeable. The stories and experience of seeing the mirror and stairs are one of a kind. We were able to go upstairs but you're able to walk through the bottom portion of the Main house. They do have beautiful ducks near the pond and it does feel like there so much history there. We were able to walk around the back porch area and do plan on going back to spend the night. Highly recommend.

Booked a one night stay here for a spooky fun experience. The daytime history tour is included with the booking. This tour was informative and interesting. We also booked the nighttime mystery tour which focuses more on the ghost stories and legends. This was super fun and interesting. These tours are executed well. Our guide was Charles both times and he did a great job! The property and main house are absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. The grounds especially- I love all the trees and water. The house has some of the original furniture and pieces and other items dating from the 1800s. We loved the experience. We stayed on a Sunday night and their restaurant closes at 2pm on Sundays. This was super disappointing. We wanted to have dinner here but since it was closed, we had to leave the property to find somewhere to eat. 2pm is so early! We stayed in the William Winters room. Nice room, spooky for sure. Bathroom was very small and I don't think I could take a shower in the tub. It looks like it's more set up for baths and I don't take baths. It was just not a shower-friendly situation. My biggest gripe is that there was no hot water. No matter how long you let the hot water run, it stayed ice cold. This made for uncomfortable washing up but since we were only there for one night, we didn't complain. The other rooms on our floor had detached bathrooms. I will take my cold water over that- I can't imagine having to use the bathroom in the middle of the night or fresh out of the shower and having to risk running into other guests. Just feels invasive for us; we are people that need our own private bathroom. The only other thing to be aware of is that you need to come prepared to entertain yourself. There's no tv or anything in the room. Literally a bed and small couch. So we basically just watched videos on our phones all night, which we don't prefer. Especially since we wore headphones so couldn't converse at the same time. I would have liked a tv to have on during the night for a little light and white noise. I slept with the lights on cuz I'm a chicken and it was a little too bright but I refused to sleep in the dark. Overall, it was a great experience. Definitely recommend staying on the property and doing both of the tours!

The property was gorgeous. The people were super nice. The tour guide was fantastic. Knowledgeable. Really good at their job. The drinks were great. We went during Christmas holidays and the place was decorated up. We also did the night time tour and it was the right amount of ambience. Totally recommend. Wanna go back.

The tour was phenomenal! Rainy Day was excellent in the way she told the history and stories of the plantation, everyone was so nice and welcoming and it was absolutely beautiful!

We stayed at the Myrtle's on Halloween night and it was amazing. We had a beautiful, comfortable room and breakfast the next morning. The 1796 restaurant was a pleasant surprise and they made us feel so special. Our server Libby was outstanding and the food was amazing. Try their lasagna. We went on a ghost tour that night of the first floor of the house with Cassie, who was so knowledgeable and fun. The house is beautiful and historic and full of stories. We highly recommend staying there. Don't complain if you don't see ghosts! Just have fun!

Stayed in Baton Rouge, and made the trip up for their evening tour. It was wonderful, very enthusiastic about property, and the spirits that live there!

The grounds are lovely and well maintained. The Crepe Myrtles trees are beautiful! If you are looking for a big plantation home and grounds this is not it. The historic and ghost tour are interesting and they take place in the same areas of the house, which I was a little disappointed about. I stayed in one of the cabins on the property and was far from impressed. Mold in the shower, broken tile, and a bench seat to the table that was pushed up against the wall was placed as a coffee table. Only a closet with a few hangers and no dresser drawers. There is a mini fridge that didn't cool down drinks and no coolers allowed inside the cabin and no T.V., which is fine.

Rooms are excellent. Customer service is great. Ghost stories are a scam. Half of them are taken from movies like The Conjuring! There is no record of a Cloe in the slaves at the plantation, kids died of yellow fever not poisoning, and no one died in the 17th step. Winter got shot in the doorway and his killer later hung himself. The truth is so much better.

Third step from the top...

Ask the Community - The Myrtles

We stayed here a few years back and one of the things we liked the most was the breakfast room that was complimentary and you got to sit down with other guests and hear their stories. Is this no longer a thing with them having 1796 now?

That is still there. The restaurant is an option for something much nicer.

Is the place haunted and if so please put pics on here?

Oh it IS!! I personally don't have any "haunted pics", but I have friends who do and I have seen them. VERY FREAKY. Take a tour and get the whole story. Even if you don't believe in that kind of stuff, it's still fun and very cool to see this… Read more

We ate dinner here our first night staying at the Hotel Toussaint. I ordered the stuffed soft shell crab with corn maque choux. I even enjoyed the corn maque choux, which is not usually my favorite, but this one still had the sweetness of the corn and all the flavors, yet wasn't overly spicy. Just perfect! My friend ordered the chicken with mushrooms and horseradish potatoes and absolutely loved every bit of it! We returned for breakfast the next morning (complimentary continental with our stay at the Hotel Toussaint), and we decided to order just one of our complimentary breakfasts (croissant, apple strudel/tart, strawberry jam, butter, and fresh fruit) and then order a Southern Breakfast (bacon, eggs, cheese grits, and a biscuit). We then split both plates so we could try everything! All of the food was delicious, as to be expected, but the cheese grits were the star of the show! They were the right texture, were seasoned well, and were topped with melted cheese. Yum! We visited the St Francisville Inn again later in the day to go to the spa for pedicures. The spa is upstairs and is serene and relaxing. Our pedicures were well done. They also offer facials and massages, but we didn't schedule those during this trip. Finally, we visited again in the afternoon to have drinks from the bar. We enjoyed them on the front porch. Everything about this place is well thought-out to the last detail. I will be visiting again in the future for sure!

The "continental" breakfast is a few stale croissants in a ziplock bag and expired orange juice. Turning to a highlight of an in house jacuzzi tub, don't expect the water to stay hot long enough to reach above the jets. Our tub button broke on first use. I booked the Cook's Cottage for a little getaway weekend retreat. I planned to relax, read, walk…read morethe grounds with my small dog, sleep in, enjoy the ambiance. I was VERY disappointed when I got inside the cottage. Friends who have stayed at Butler Greenwood told me the cottages are a little older and rustic, but the pictures online looked charming. None of them had stayed at the Cook's Cottage might I add. I wasn't expecting a pristine, modern accommodation, but this cottage was closer to disrepair than rustic. Everything needs an update/upgrade/thorough cleaning. The sofa/chair slip covers were worn, dirty, and covered with random material squares where they were ripped, two of the three lamps were broken at the top so the shades tipped over to the side, the entire cottage aside from the bathroom was carpeted in old blue office carpet with some throw rugs on top. There were various prints and blankets covering the wall, one I noticed was taped on the glass where it had cracked. Cobwebs and dust were visible on many of the old wall hangings, the fireplace tools, the top of the mantle. There were dead bugs under the bed, in a kitchen cabinet with some random large pans, the air conditioner unit was old and only got somewhat cool no matter how low I tried to set it. The mattress on the bed was hard and probably thirty years old, the pillows stained and of the caliber of what they use in hospitals, the bathroom faucet and toilet were worn down and chipped, the jacuzzi tub faucets had such low pressure I had to run the water for over an hour to fill it enough to run the jacuzzi. Everything looked and felt dirty. There's mold on the shower door, a blue metal trash can that looks like something from a 1980s grammar school cafeteria would have used, a ceiling fan that could only be run with all of the overhead lights on. I thought about leaving the first night, but the weather was bad and it was already dark. I did ask Ms. Ann Butler, the owner, if I could move to another cottage, but she said all were booked for the next day. I had the opportunity to go look inside the Dovecoat cottage before the renters arrived, and it was one hundred times nicer than the Cook's cottage. Much cleaner, more light, renovated, more updated furniture and flooring. I cannot believe she rents these two cottages for the some price (she rents any of them for $150 if only one bedroom is used). I felt like I had been tricked as my place felt like a cheap motel. An old, dirty, cheap motel while the others appeared significantly nicer, more comfortable, up to date, etc. I spent Saturday walking the grounds, tried to swim (the pool was dirty and had mold on the stairs leading in), and enjoyed sitting on the back deck reading and looking at the lovely pond view. The grounds are lovely. As long as I was outside my cottage, everything was charming, pleasant, and nice enough. I chose to make the best of it for the day and then packed my things and drove home at sunset as spending another night in that cottage was not an option. I thought about talking with the owner about it, but I cannot imagine I am the first to complain about this cottage, and I could tell by her response when I asked about moving cottages she was not concerned about customer satisfaction. I am so disappointed and felt really swindled by the misleading website pictures. I am sharing some of my own so no one else makes the same unfortunate choice. From what I'm told, Chases's Cottage, the Pond House, the Tree house, and the Dovecoat (I can vouch for this one myself) are all lovely. The place is truly worth it if you can rent one of those cottages, but you would literally be better off staying at a 2 or 3 star hotel in the area than this cottage.
