What a wonderful gallery! So many different kinds of art by many talented artists. I was especially…read moreimpressed with Shirley Jones' baskets. Having made baskets myself I know the work that goes into it and her baskets are not only beautiful, creative, and unique...but also priced well. It is absolutely beautiful to walk through the gallery, and the man on hand was so helpful and enjoyable to talk to. If you're in the area do eat at the Blue Moon Café either before or after and then cross the street to go to this gallery you will not be disappointed. I was also happy to get a Petoskey stone necklace as I may not get to find one myself. I bought a beautiful beach bowl. And there were so many beautiful pieces of wood. Eco died silk scarves and so much more... You have to see it to believe how beautiful this gallery is.

These multimedia works are meditative yet not self-indulgent. They reminded me of my own dreams as I looked and listened. The alternative fair is an ambitious exhibition in which thirty-some artists artists work from an empty retail unit at The Rainbow Centre. They have been given shopping carts to incorporate in their projects. Many of the works not only dealt with the icon of the shopping cart but with their relationship to the exhibition site. Christian Pelletier, for instance, an artist from Sudbury, exhibited a piece titled Borgia on My Mind, which explored the history of what was torn down to build the mall. Residents told stories of what places they frequented, and their journeys between them were mapped. Vintage photographs completed the tableaux. Another artist, Marc Losier, who is from Toronto, provides archival images he found in Toronto for Museological Imaginary, which indicate how he explores Sudbury as a site from the perspective of an outsider. Alexia Turlin, a Geneva-based artists, also explores the city as an outsider but through public participation. For Swiss Post she has interested mall visitors draw their perception of Switzerland on a postcard. She then has a Swiss artist mail the participants and "artist-made" card. Their are many other memorable works too. Ultimately, the exhibition made me think more of my surroundings. In that way art enhanced my life - at least momentarily.
