They sell…read moreorganic vegetables (the ones that come in all shapes and sizes, and colours!), fresh breads (mainly all sorts of brown and wholemeal kinds) plus a huge range of herbs and spices. The staff are probably vegetarians, and are very helpful and pleasant. They also have a variety of nuts for sale, and all sorts of other goodies, like soya milks, fruit bars and so on. You would not be able to guarantee the availability of the same fresh items each week, sometimes there will be loads of tomatoes, the next week none, but loads of aubergines and onions! The bread usually sells out very quickly too, so go early!

I especially love their impressive array of flours, nuts and dried fruits and the the fact that they carry "Lizard Leaves" - baby greens grown by local farmers. Without a doubt, these are the freshest and most delectable baby greens I have ever eaten - and yes, you have to come all the way to Cornwall to find them. Also, they carry one of the best pasties in the UK...it may sound unbelievable, but it is true. Their pasties are made with spelt flour, vegetable oil (not lard) and the fillings are fresh and tasty without being overly salty. The result is a crispy, flavorful and delicious product that will win the heart of even the most demanding Brit. We have tasted every pasty in Falmouth and they are in the top three with the Cornish Miner and Presto. As a New Yorker, I have shopped in some of the finest and most lovingly tended health food stores around and The Natural Store is right up there with some of the best.

Archie Browns is a wholefood shop primarily, which sells a nice range of vegearian goods and has a…read morecafe upstairs. I'm only reviewing the cafe part of Archie Browns in Truro. As this place only opened this year I had to try it out as I use the cafe in Penzance and have always been very impressed. I chose the mediteranean tarts with goats cheese (well that's what it said on the board) so when I received one small not very filled tart which crumbled to nothing and a small salad I was very disappointed - not the usual standard I had come to expect although it was tasty. I haven't been back since as I go to Lettuce and Lovage over the road.

In this case, it's the £2 you have to hand over for a bar. But, after you've had one, you'll probably work harder to earn more for another one and then another, one of the Chilli ones, or the cool Peppermint ones. There are others, 8 varieties to get through before you can decide which is the favourite. Of course, it might take a couple of attempts to get that definitive decision and even then, the mood might have swung from gentle Goji towards fire-eating Chilli. So, it might take quite a long investigative journey. In the meantime, work harder; earn more pennies. They are very pleasant in the shop and will let you have a taster to help. While you're there of course, it's not just Raw Chocolate Pie; they have all sorts of other super-foods to tempt. And when your stash has run out, don't fret as they will send you replenishment choco-fixes, postage free. Check the place out when you're in St Ives; even if you're in Carlisle right now, definitely worth the trip down there. Or you could have a look at their web site. Highly recommended.
