Somehow the food came out first and the coffees weren't ready until almost half an hour later. By the time I got back to my truck, the food was cold. While waiting, several staff members were standing around the drive-through window chatting while orders were clearly backed up. Extremely unprofessional and frustrating, especially for a prepaid mobile order meant to save time. If you're in a hurry or expect basic efficiency, don't rely on mobile ordering at this location.

My wife and I love to stop into old school Canadian Chinese Restaurants. And we have found that you…read morecan find some real jens in small towns. Tai Pan China Cafe in Mattawa is one of these places. We always like to start with a Won Ton soup. It seems to be the best measure of how much a restaurant puts into their cooking. Called Wong Ton soup at Tai Pan you will get a piping hot bowl of delicious broth with about four won tons. It is an obviously home made soup. With lots of chopped green onion and special ingredient chopped lettuce. This soup pulled up the rating of everything else. We also each had an egg roll, and shared a BBQ Pork fried rice, Hunan Beef and General Tao Chicken. We were asked if we wanted medium heat or hot. My wife answered medium. We should have ordered hot, it was a little bland for our tastes. But they were both good with lots of meat in each dish. The service was excellent, the woman serving us was in constant motion. They were making a lot of take out orders (on a Sunday night). The restaurant is old and worn but overall seemed pretty clean. We will certainly stop for this won ton soup again next time through Mattawa.

The breakfasts were big portions, tasted great - but not too special - what you can expect in a diner. The coffee was a bit of a disappointment - it's certainly better than chain coffee stores but given the setting promised a lot more.

Unfortunately, the food didn't deliver. Between my friend and I, we had: Mushroom caps - too small to even actually be stuffed, so it was essentially just stuff on top of mushrooms. The stuff on top included shredded, chewy fake crab meat and what seemed like a pound of cheese. Very bad. Large Caesar salad - Very bland, aside from the fact that they dumped an entire container of Renee's dressing in it. Pickerel with vegetables and twice baked potato - The pickerel was a bit overcooked, but tasty. The vegetable was just 4 slices of zucchini fried in butter - simple, but not bad. And then the twice baked potato, which was essentially mashed potatoes smothered in cheese. No crispiness like twice baked potatoes usually are, and would have tasted better with some green onion and if it weren't so wet and mushy. The service was friendly and attentive. But that's not enough to make up for the crappy food.
